Reviews for Fable: Books & TV

← Back to Fable: Books & TV

The stats are fun and the idea of being able to join bookclubs is fun. but the app is challenging to use. Adding books is difficult, moving books around that shouldn't count towards the reading goal is seemingly impossible despite following the app's instructions. There are other tracking apps that function better and simpler.

This app crashes while using phone network data and only works well on Wifi. Also when reviewing a book, the prepopulated review options for the Indie/Self Published books are incorrect. It looks like someone is reviewing a research paper. The search bar is not pulling up books correctly when searched by title or some authors. The algorithim appears to be very anti-Indie authorish. This app has the potential to be a very good book space once things are working properly.

Almost perfect, I love all the features available and have replaced all my physical book journals. Just wish it wasn't as glitchy for Android users. Sometimes you go to open the app and it just won't and you'll get an error. The only work around I've found for it is to restart your phone, but ateast there's a work around.

Update 4: Crashes every time I open it, within 1-2 minutes, no matter if I clear cache or uninstall. It has so much potential but it's SO BUGGY. Lists don't display correctly, goodreads import was messy, can't edit comments OR posts, there's more features for ios than android, and social aspect is ok but too focused on the same handful of romantasy readers. Love the look, love the stats. Just wish I could actually USE IT. Like, come on already.

The user interface is very well done. I love the blend of social media, book club, and book tracking available on the app. I mainly use it for tracking, but I've seen the options for a book club - definitely a great tool for online connection to talk about books! It also has an easy import function to transfer your lists from Goodreads so you don't have to do all that leg work again.

I downloaded this app today. I've been using Goodreads for the last year. I wish there was a website for Fable. I find it way easier to update and write reviews on the computer. I really liked the ability to do partial ratings. My biggest gripe with the app is how buggy it is. I hate how it refreshes after every change. It's so annoying to try and update my entries. My start dates didn't transfer, but the end dates did. If they fixed this and added a web version, I'd convert.

I really enjoy this app out of all the reading log apps out there. It helps me feel really organized and at the same time motivated to keep reading more in order to grow my "finished" list and reading streaks. My only complaint is that it can be laggy at times and also sometimes think I updated progress on one book rather than the other. But other than that, I really enjoy my time on here! :)

I tend to explain this app to my friends as if Goodreads and Tumblr had a baby. I hate Goodreads; their recommendation system simply does not work. Fable's is sooo much better!! I use it to track my reading and find new books, so I can't speak for the book club feature or the social reading feature (looks great, but I don't spend money on books LOL). I also like to post about books I'm currently reading, and it recommends those posts to others reading that book. No ads. Love love love :)

Great Goodreads replacement, and in addition it also lets you track your TV shows (if you want too.) At present the ads are small and minimal while the app feels modern and up to date. But they've started an AI roll-out which is a red flag and a bad sign. It seems to be limited to guessing works that users may enjoy, and doesn't appear to be generative. Still not a good sign.

Want to love it... I love this more than goodreads, but the app is so buggy for me and I don't know how I can fix it. I cannot tag other users without the tag disappearing, or the app pasting the users multiple times over and over uncontrollably. This is extremely irritating. It also sometimes doesn't load lists. When I scroll through them, it will stop after a certain nunber and get stuck on a loading wheel. I'll have to back out, then go back into the list for a few more to load.

I like that you can see followers stats/profile and the books they've been reading. Would love to have an update giving us the ability to click on the books/author(s) they've been reading in the profile area. It would also be nice if we could click on the books and get the info when checking out others calendar.

Overall, I love this app. I love that its got reading streaks, the reading personality algorithm, the book club chapter convos, and just the data and community on here. The support is also wonderful, so quick to respond and always professional. The reason it gets 4/5 stars is because the recommendations are truly atrocious. I think its because I dont read romance nor biographies. It's a simple fix, just go look for recommendations in other places. Other than that, absolutely love the app!

I love this app and want to continue to use it as I read quite a bit and getting to keep track of my reading progress is nice but this app is super frustrating when I am constantly getting an error message when going to my profile. I've finished a book and I can't even log the new one I've picked out because of this constant error.

This app is great for both connecting with other readers and organizing my books into categories that can help me read with more intention! The book club part is an incredible aspect that I love to use with my friends. I think they could add a dark mode some time, though, because my eyes are really sensitive to light. Other than that I love it!

update 7/30/25 I have uninstalled & reinstalled I don't know how many times, it doesn't load or I get the white box "fable isn't responding" I'm tried of fight with it. farewell fable 7/15/25 I have been using this app for over a year, then one day all of a sudden it wouldn't load it just stayed on the part where the logo is in the middle of the screen. Thought it was a glitch uninstalled it, changed my password, anything I could think of. I am so bummed.

Edit: changing my review back to 5 stars. I finally found the email address directly to technical support (my app was completely broken so I was not able to get to tech support through the app). We could not fix it without uninstalling the app and installing a clean fresh copy, but they assured me that I wouldn't lose my historical data. It is working again and now I can go back and add all of the books I read while it was broken.

I really like a lot of aspects of this app. The tracking, the personalized page of your information, and the monthly options to share with you've been reading. I also would like to be able to find friends easier via Facebook or contacts. The BookAura thing is cool, but you can't switch between other friends without going into the following section. It also keeps showing me as the one friend that I did the BookAura with first despite me not being her.

can't click on the author's name to see all their books. the transfer from GR was weird. Did it 3 times. Still off. when you try to share your stats, it just shows a small pic of the stats and a phrase "Tap and hold to download." Tap. Hold. Nothing happens. lol, really? you couldn't put it in the ux design that the app led you to other apps? It's clunky and overwhelming, yet so much is missing that's readily available even on the good'ole GoodReads. max of 15 books for monthly summary? why?

I love the idea of the app but, as an avid reader (like at least one, sometimes more, books daily) I can definitively say that their selection is sorely lacking. I ending up referring a few friends and got the book Fourth Wing for free via my credits. And that's where my reading list stops short. Literally Every Single Other Book that I've wanted is unavailable. Every single one. I'll review again at a later date but for right now, 3 stars for the concept. Romantasy readers, move on for now.

I really enjoy this app. However my biggest complaint is the search functionality and list of books to choose from. Some books have multiple versions listed while some are not cataloged at all. I listen to graphic audio books and part 2 of a book I listened to is on fable but not part 1. I don’t like importing from goodreads because as I mentioned before it can add multiple versions of one book. Catalog and search functions need to be updated.
