Reviews for FBReader Premium

← Back to FBReader Premium

Best reader out there, bar none. Despite what another reviewer said, the paid version does, in fact, read from your SD card. Despite what yet another reviewer stated, you can change your background to whatever you want, not just the default choices. You can add whatever fonts to use, as well.

I've been using FBR Premium for years and never had a problem. And would had given 5*. But with the recent update I can't even open the app. It tells me about the changes about file access, I click on OK and it crashes. I'm giving it one * Not because of the app, but the fact that FBR has offered No Fix. And as with most Internet companies you cannot contact them for help. Very disappointed with FBReader as a company.

You broke it! FILE TREE option no longer available. For me this is a serious issue, I keep my books organised in various folders within the books folder eg Thrillers, Urban Fantasy etc, etc. But by removing the FILE TREE it's just a pain to use the app now. New PICK FILE option is worthless. What problem was it meant to solve? All it does is add unnecessary complication for no real benefit and additional stress.

not much better than free one no fonts has tts but a lot of readers have it for free can not connect to dropbox

It was the best reader for 10+ years: fast, reliable, and customizable. Recent updates made the ui worse and now, after I had to change the phone to xiaomi 15, it doesn't even work at all, just hangs on all actions.

Recently booted up my tablet again to read some books but after the recent update this app has completely ruined itself. I can no longer find my books easily, where before I could search by the folders I organized them into. Now everything is a mess and it hurts to look at. It would take me days if not weeks to try to reorganize things using their current organizational system. I'm going to have to look for a ifferent reader now.

Edit 9-15-25. Had to archive it and go back to free version after last premium update. Locks up with no response. Have used the free version for years as it was my go-to for ebooks. Bought the premium version expecting cloud synching because Dropbox has now limited devices. Doesn't work for me. No really special features.

love this app... I have it read books to me before work. oneissue, when I connect to Bluetooth in my car it seems to fade out at the end of every sentence and I have to restart the read aloud plugin

I have used the free version of FBReader for years. It started to get really slow, so I bought the Premium version. It is still slow. After 3 months, it doesn't work at all.

1. Hi guys, when I open an EPUB book in FBReader Premium, the margins are too wide. I set the left and right margins to 0, but it didn’t help much. How can I reduce the margins to a reasonable size? 2. Also, is it possible to enlarge the Translation pop-up window without any size limit?

went from 5 to 2. It used to be fast, but now it takes minutes sometimes to open a book. And folders takes 15-20 sek to traverse an up to a minute to list books in a folder. it was the best app, but now I can't use it; it takes too long and annoys the hell out of me.

Library in app inconsistent. Only old local library can open list on the author of the current book, the new one just open list with all authors on random place. But only new lib has recently added books, and you need to switch back and forward between different implementations. OPDS works well before, but that looks like it was rewritten to support theming and now constantly freezing and crashing.

This newest upgrade has froze my fbreader. It freezes my new samsung galaxy 25 ultra. Keeps freezing screen and phone then saying fbreader is not working x to close app. It won't load books, nothing. Been 2 days and I cannot access any book. This was my go to, I read everyday on fbreader premium. I paid for upgrade. I used it for years, like 10. Now I have to find another epub reader because they screwed it up with a single upgrade. Good job.

It is a great app, except the ilbrary function where you can search and pull up your ebooks stopped functioning a few weeks ago and no response from developer. You can use a file manager program to find the file, and chose fb reader to open, but additional steps and no feedback on why this function stopped working. Otherwise one of my favorite apps.

Echoing others that the recent update has completely destroyed the app. All my default display settings were deleted and I was forced to remake my library, manually looking up where all my books and files were. Now I can't open the app or load anything at all, even after reinstalling. have been a premium customer for years and this is very disappointing.

Very happy with this app. That I can sync books across numerous devices is great. I like that I can customize the colors in the epub HTML. One thing that is not ideal: There is no way to disable the app control over screen brightness. It is impossible to read outdoors because the app prevents me from making it as bright as needed. (I would contact the developer about this but unfortunately they insist on using only Telegram, which I am not going to install just to reach one person.)

Best ebook reader. Period. I use it on all of my Android, iOS, and Windows devices. The cross-platform sync works flawlessly for me, which saves time trying to find my place. Does everything I want and need it do. I've recently replaced Freda with FB Reader on my desktop due to recent updates, and I'm glad that I did. The app opens every file type I've loaded without hesitation.

One of the best ebook readers out there. I really love the built-in TTS, though I was disappointed that the speech customizations available in the plugin are missing. The local catalog is good, but there's no way to filter out all the books that are 100% read from my catalog view (a real annoyance when trying to find unread books in a large local library). As a result, I have to rely upon other apps to track my progress. These two fixes, or at least the 2nd one, improve this from 3 to 5 stars.

Good app, but when it updated, the version on my phone won't access any of the folders on my SD card. It shows little locks on the folders. Other apps will access the card. I don't have space on my phone for the books. On my old Kindle, the Titles page always crashes when it didn't before and I have to wait a while for a book to load before I can turn a page, which didn't happen before. I preferred the previous version. When it works, it's brilliant to share my library between devices.

The best of the 7-10 e-readers I've tried so far. My two biggest wants? Add more customization options for areas on the screen to turn pages. Many other readers such as Prestigio are highly customizable in this regard. This really is a pain. 2nd is more minor, but please fix the progress bar at the bottom of the screen. There is no mark on it to indicate progress, which makes it fairly useless. Apart from that, very good!
