I wish I could give this app 5 stars but unfortunately I can't. The app repeatedly crashes and no matter what I do I can't get it to stay open more than 5ish minutes. Other than that the idea behind the app is fantastic! It's very informative and helps me support the people and ideas I want to. It will be worth the download once the crashing glitch gets fixed.
Reviews for Goods Unite Us
← Back to Goods Unite UsCould use more businesses and should list them by common name, not corporate names. It is easy to use with helpful information. Contrary to what some reviewers say, because they are too lazy to click on the information icon, the negative rating has nothing to do with party. It has to do with how much they try to buy votes with campaign donations. 6/21/20. Still doesn't have a lot of businesses. You should be able to search by common name, not obscure corp. Very slow.
I'm unsure of the validity of the data presented in the app. I've seen data that I've known to be false and then the next time I look it up in the app, it's different. The app is also glitchy and will stop working so you'll need to exit out (if it will let you) and then reopen it. I've had to restart my phone when it won't fully exit the app. Overall, it's a good idea. I think it needs some work and polish before it's ready as a reliable reference.
Sometimes it's glitchy. But the bigger problem is that the labels and details for entities don't seem to match and there are no sources referenced to see if there are reasons for the discrepancies. So, the idea of using this information in order to vote with your wallet is great, the information to do that in this app is not actually useful to that end.
Love the info but I just updated and now there's a video ad EVERY time I search a company. Now the app is completely unusable when I'm standing in the shampoo aisle wanting to know who to give my money to. THIN OUT THE AD FREQUENCY, PLEASE! Put more embedded ads on the company pages or something, don't make me wait minutes and minutes to get the info or it's worthless. This went from my favorite app to the worst one on my phone.
wow that was such an improvement from the last time I downloaded it. it is definitely usable and ads are not a constant pop up. The search for companies seems to be improved because it didn't go to a misspelled one or a unrelated one on a few test ones that I tried. and those were the same companies I tried before so they definitely been improved. I do think the database has been updated also because it is different from what I've seen and it also matches AI searches. Great job
The idea behind the app is wonderful and useful, giving us a way to better understand where our money is going. The app, however, just leaves you frustrated. Repeated crashes, buttons taking you to a different menu than the one you wanted, the search menu locking up... It's a mess. Iron out the bugs and it'll be solid.
Was good until they added SUPER OBNOXIOUS LOUD ADS THAT YOU CANT SILENCE. Not exactly raging against the machine any longer, eh? Bye. Response to Devs note- the frequency is a problem but the bigger issue is that they pop up full screen, with sound ON, without warning and without a way to silence or close them. There was no warning sent that this change was coming and to start paying for the ad-free version. Finally a lot of the info is out of date. Inaccurate is hard to justify paying for.
Glitchy so far. Can't backtrack on the self-assessment. Can't finish logging in. Several of the companies in the search results have inaccurate links. Like, I click on Arby's and it takes me to Arbonne and I click on Arbonne and it takes me to some external page. It would also be useful to just have a list of majority-Democrat-contributing, or majority-Republican-contributing companies, without having to select specific candidates.
I have yet to receive a notification from the app that, when it is clicked, actually takes me to the purported topic stated in the notification, which can be a little frustrating. And finding any of those stated topics have, so far, not been easy to find in the app. I chose 4 stars instead of 3 stars because I like and respect the purpose, mission, and, what I think is the vision, of Goods Unite Us.
I want to like your product, I really do. The very first time I tried to use it some months ago I actually disliked it so much I uninstalled it. I decided to give it another try a few weeks ago and things were going fine (it's buggy, unintuitive, but ok) until today, when there's all of a sudden loads of ads - the really obnoxious ones that are full screen, with sound, that show up nearly every time I open a company's page, and take 3 clicks to fully exit. If this continues I'll deinstall again.
Dysfunctional. The rate yourself test doesn't work. Take it several times and it just never gives an answer. Profile doesn't work- it just never gives you the option to input anything, but asks you to log in over and over whenever you click an option on the drowpdown menu. Finally, the downloadable/printable shopping list is not downloadable. It simply will not let me download it when I click download. It also wants me to put in my Google login details. Yikes. Suspect behavior.
The listing on the Google Play Store does not disclose that this app has advertisements, only in-app purchases. This is misleading. Some of the advertisements are also full screen, with sound, and require 3 separate taps to skip/exit, not just the unobtrusive one in the banner at the bottom. Getting rid of the ads appears to not be just a one time purchase, but requires you to make yet another separate account with them so you can "subscribe". While the cause is good, this implementation is not.
It WAS a good resource. Now it won't open promptly, crashes, glitches, and doesn't match alternative companies that match what I'm looking for. For instance, if you're looking for a home improvement store and boycott the one you type in, the app will give you an alternative that is useless, like a fashion store or a place to eat. And it is clear that the information hasn't been updated in a *long* time. (sigh) I wish there was a reliable app for people who want to vote with their pocketbook!
Useful app! A few suggestions. It would be helpful to indicate parent companies vs smaller. For example the movie "A Quiet Place Part II" is listed but it's not clear which parent company that is. Also, a short description of the product/brand/company, its CEO, etc. could be helpful for identifying that you are looking at the correct entry. Some names are very alike. Finally it could be interesting to have the ability to quickly look at recent news, stock prices, etc. for popular entries.
"Goods Premium" not worth it yet. I just purchased and then looked up a number of large companies to view their report cards but the only ones available so far are the ones you used to promote the subscription option - Target and Costco. I love this app and am happy to pay for more detailed data but you don't seem to have it yet.
The app has a very basic interface, which works fine. There are a good number of large companies (GE & LG, for example) that are not listed, which is not fine. A great addition would be the ability to search by *type* of company so when I am looking to buy something, perhaps a new range, I can look at the companies that sell white goods and easily find ones I'm willing to support. Overall, I do find it very useful and appreciate the effort put into creating it.
The app hasn't been updated since 2022 according to the Google Play store, so how accurate can this data be? The app crashes randomly, the search function is not functional. If there's a missing brand it states "Ask us, we'll find out!" But this function doesn't work either. You can't save your favorites and the rate yourself prompt would be way cooler if it worked.
The quiz to rate yourself is kinda dumb. Because it does not take into account how much you use a business. Such as the fact that I buy groceries at Walmart, Aldi, Costco, and Kroger. But I buy like 80% of my groceries at Aldi. There's a question about clothes but there is no option for second hand or a way to add a place that the app tracks but is not listed. Alternative suggestions are rarely the same kind is place. The app is good at a glance, but doesn't reflect your shopping habits at all.
I'm glad to have this data readily available and in an easy to parse format. I do hope that they'll consider putting a changelog-like timestamp, though, because there's at least one glaringly outdated item (twitter, showing pre-Musk data) which makes me wonder how old the others are. There's a way to leave a review/comment on each item, but it doesn't seem to encourage an update. I'm also confused by the occasional item being marked with a grey lock icon, sends me to somewhere else.
