It is almost impossible to cancel your membership. The App refuses to acknowledge I have a membership even though i gave access to the lessons. Guitar Tricks will automatically renew your membership and debit your account ; but will not reply to any emails. I am having to try and block any more debits from account. Caveat emptor.
Reviews for Guitar Lessons by GuitarTricks
← Back to Guitar Lessons by GuitarTricksI think the app would be better if I could use the looper function that's supposed to be available , that was a big plus for me to subscribe to guitar tricks , but I'll see how I go and decide whether to cancel b4 the 60 days end , as I say lessons are clear and well done , just not being able to loop sections of lessons is there big downfall , as you can loop sections of songs etc on youtube , and that's free . Thanx
Overall this app is mediocre. You can find all the content that is online but it is not arranged well. You cant filter more than 1 level and you cant search the content. You can view the notation but cant zoom in on it. It is ashame as there is a huge amount of content on GT but finding it and using it on the mobile version is difficult.
content is good but the app needs work. Theres no way to mark which lessons are completed, you just have to remember which point you are up to everytime you want to practice, also video player is not very good and loads at a random point of the video instead of starting at the start. Also would be good to go to the next video within each lesson from fullscreen, instead of minimising, clicking next video, then maximising the video to full screen.
What I really like about Guitar tricks is it's structure. It's core skills, is a logical easy to follow step by step method to teach you guitar from first chord, rythm etc. There after it continues this method with acoustic guitar, country, blues and rock. This means you wiĺl always have something new to learn. It all so has a great selection of song lessons, and techniques. It's ideal for beginners to intermediates.
I had high hopes for this app. I have about a year of playing guitar and subscribed to this course for the practise songs to play along with. It started off well as you get clear lessons on how to play the song which builds up to a jamming session. But during the jamming session, there is no onscreen indication of what chord comes next. You either have to remember the whole sequence or write it down. There is a notation page but it doesn't scroll with the song. Disappointing.
Have been mucking around for years with guitar. Decided to pay for the whole package as I have never got anywhere. First song I tried (Judas Priest) had me playing along in minutes. There are no short cuts to learning to play as I have discovered but there are different ways of learning and keeping interest. I wish I had have done this years ago. Try it for a month, if you don't like it cancel it. Think of the time you will save than trying to find something for free.
This back in the day was by far the greatest guitar app of all however a lot of their content was removed due to copyright issues, sadly now they no longer have a lot of songs covered but I guess there's still a bit of theory lessons and a few songs. I don't recommend this if you've been told about its huge library of songs, you will get disappointed and there better online courses for in depth theory such as True Fire (although they don't have an updated app).
Pretty good app that syncs up with the Web version on pc so I can pickup where I left off. Have resubscribed for a second year. The big downside for the Android app is that there is no way to search for songs like there is on the web version. You have to scroll through 1000 plus songs! Otherwise I can't fault it really. Add a search bar and it'd be 5 stars 😁. Ps Also lyrics (also already available on web version) would be handy.
Atrocious app. This review is not of the service, but the app. It's pure garbage. Doesn't keep track of your progress and messes up the order of the lessons to the point where it skips ahead or knocks you back to stuff you've been through before. It marks parts as completed even though you've never been through them before and un marks things you've been through 2-3 times. Looks a lot better and more coherent if you go straight to the website. I've unistalled this junk and went there.
Outstanding! I've been playing for about 12 years and never took any lessons. I learned all over the place using other means and never really learning the fundamentals correctly. Well music theory to be precise. I am well rounded on how to play songs from past experience, but this method is so useful. If I could start again, I'd definitely start here. Time is valuable. Some advise for those looking for free lessons all over the web... it will take a long while to learn properly that way.
The app feels ancient, the lessons are all videos I didn't find a single one that wasn't. Maybe I'm the only one that expected written lessons with pictures and diagrams. They also don't let you cancel your subscription inside the app so it took me forever to find how to cancel. Personally it seems like a dirty tactic to make money by making it too hard to cancel.
UPDATE: An awesome way to learn guitar! I am a beginner and I've only been using this app for a month (start one lesson a week and practice that lesson for at least 30 mins a day till the next week and repeat) and so far, this has been a better alternative to the music schools that I took a trail class with. More affordable too. Also, the staff actually care about your concerns and will work the best they can to resolve a technical issue which I really appreciate.
I do not like the app!!! It's not a helpful representation of the website!! I love the service, the company, the lessons, and the content. Don't use the app!! Just use the website instead. The app is different and difficult to navigate and really counterintuitive. It became more of a hassle than a help. Thankfully, the website is also available without the frustrating app.
I just got Guitar Tricks because, from my research, it seems to be the highest rated guitar teaching app. The lessons are really well put together and I think it will certainly help with my growth as a player. That said, the app is pretty terrible to use. There are basic expectations I had for how the app would work that are just lacking. No double tap to skip forward or back, it doesn't actually complete lessons after you watched them nor save your place from where you stopped. Please improve
Beyond anything else from this app, the people behind it have been amazing with helping me out when I had questions and concerns. That is certainly what makes a good app. Personally, everything within this app was easy to find and easy to access. I had little to no trouble with anything while pulling it up on my phone. No crashing, no lagging, and no bugs to what I can see. I have learned a good bit from this app and definitely look forward to its continual growth! Thanks Guitar Tricks!!
I love Guitar Tricks! But the only problem with the app is that I am unable to resume my most recent lesson that I completed on my home computer. For example, I was midway through the 'Intervals of Rock" segment but if I am on the road and want to use the app, I am invited to 'Begin The Tutorial'; I cannot go directly to the last lesson completed. (Or if it's possible, I just haven't been able to locate it!) All in all, I enjoy Guitar Tricks and will remain a student!
Constant crashing has led to me abandoning this app and returning to the browser-based version. Also, neither the website nor the app have a casting button, which would allow me to easily send the videos to my television and sound system. Seems a small thing, but having a more life-size view of the instructor and the tiny notations, along with louder volume than my device, would be very helpful. Other guitar programs I've tried do offer a casting button, but I prefer the lessons here more.
This is a review for Guitar Tricks more broadly. I bought full access a couple weeks ago and was having a positive experience with the lessons. Then, I got an email quoting a sale price on it that was significantly less than what I had paid. I sent them an message, asking if they could honor the sale price even though I had already paid full price. About 12 hours later, I got an email saying that they were refunding the difference. Honestly, this is great customer service.
Great app for beginners and have a good support team that works with you if you find any problems with the app. I signed up for a year and then decided I didnt need the app anymore but forgot to cancel the subscription. When my year was up I was charged $179 ( I had a yearly subscription) so I called the support team and they refunded that amount with no problem.
