I wanted to hear more Hearts of Space as I love their Nervous 96 Jill Tracy performance. The application crashes after a few minutes when I turn off my phone screen which is frustrating, but if my phone is on it plays. Im hoping the issue is resolved soon. I love the UI and look forward to full functionality.
Reviews for Hearts of Space
← Back to Hearts of SpaceApp hangs and crashes when screen saver or lock screen activates. Also, when laying inactive for awhile, as when you're listening to a track. Needs some work. As it hasn't been updated for quite awhile, I don't expect any fixes. I've been listening to HOS since the early eighties and its sad that the Android app is so lame.
HOS is great, I listen on my local NPR station every week. The APP is not so great. Every time it gets revamped it gets worse. just stops playing for no reason, if it doesn't outright fail when you first launch it. Hope it gets fixed, because I love the show!
I too experience many issues with the app. Crashing, loading, buffering. REALLY want to enjoy this music but am limited by the apps shortcomings. *Edit 1 Jan 2024* Bugs fixed, no more issues with playback. Getting a subscription would really unlock the full features the app and studio has to offer. Telling my wife about this ;)
Music playback on this app is fine, but the interface keeps flashing on and off. It'll be there for a moment, then rapidly alternate between the interface and total blackness. This sort of thing never happened on my last phone. I'd give this app 5/5 if the interface was fixed.
Hearts of Space is so great but this app is not. Seems to always crash if you let it play long enough, usually after about 90 minutes. Doesn't respond to Bluetooth controls. The interface isn't terrible but it could be better. Desperately needs to be updated.
HoS defeat themselves in their attempts to monetize. They don't maintain website compatibility with older versions of the app, though doing so would be an essentially trivial matter of continuing to run the server code that they already had, for the older clients. (HoS shouldn't try blowing smoke.) Nor do they port clients for the new server program to older versions of Android. So, if you don't buy otherwise unneeded devices, expect eventually to be flipped-off.
With the recent changes to HOS, some people think the app is the only way to access the program. I can vouch that you can access the website through Chrome on Android. Switch the browser to request the desktop site, you can access the new website that way. Firefox browser on Android isn't responding right now. But I'm sure there's a work around for that too until all of the kinks are worked out. Really liking the new design, HOS team!
Closes right after it opens. Every time. After uninstalling and reinstalling and then allowing notifications it works. Thank you for the quick response and fix. I have enjoyed hos for many years and was sad to think I might not be able to use the app anymore. Thanks!
Music from the Hearts of Space is a favorite program from my childhood. Very glad it is still available, but the website will have to do until this app is completely overhauled. Others have described the ongoing problems, so I won't detail again. Uninstalled and now listening from the website via Bluetooth.
App won't accept a valid email address. Can't even open it. Shame, because the previous version worked fine. Edit; After repeated failures, I Uninstalled and reinstalled, and now I'm at least "in". (Why a login for a free app??) We'll see how it goes. Added two stars for now.
Would be great to have an option to cast audio to castable device like nest hub Response: most android apps that generate audio can cast that audio with meta data to compatible internet connected devices. This provides a much richer user experience than just Bluetooth. And some devices that act as speakers are not Bluetooth receivers, like the nest hub that I mentioned in my comment.
Able to access playlists as a paid subscriber, but very limited options otherwise. If I want to create a playlist, browse older episodes, or want more than a 'play what's new' or category experience, I'm using the website. Really quite disappointing. Dated UI looks like a reskinned iOS app, but at least all of the (quite limited) options are at most 2-3 taps away. I'd prefer a wrapper to the website over this app, to be honest.
I have listened to Hearts of Space for years. Only recently have re-remembered the name of the program. I LOVE it! I suffered memory loss due to a "falling down" disorder & it's taken me a long time to remember a lot of stuff. But I used to listen in Los Angeles on an FM station there. I loved it then, & I still love it now. Especially since they now have their OWN APP so you can get to them faster & more directly!!
I can't figure out how to access the entire library. I like to listen to older shows and browse by year on the web browser, but the app seems to only have channels, free streams, and current show. :-/ I was able to make a playlist and it saved across platforms, so I guess I can make one for each year or something, maybe. Will upgrade rating if the app is better organized.
indispensable. I only have two streaming subscriptions and this is one of them (the free account is still more than worth the download). I listen to it every single day, and it's no exaggeration to say that it is crucial to my ability to cope with the horrors of the world.
Paid for premium plan and can't even finish my first stream. The app kept saying I hadn't paid or logged in, but the link provided takes me directly to my active subscription. Then the episode I am trying to stream keeps either restarting or stopping randomly and forces me back to the current week's show.
No way that I see to play the free content. It just tells me over and over to pay. Uninstalling now. Edit: I guess it doesn't matter how easy it supposedly is because I already uninstalled the app. Not going to bother with it. It's buggy besides the issue I mentioned. 2nd edit.: I didn't see any welcome message. So you don't need to be snarky about it. Fix your app so that it actually works. Your reviews show how bad your app is!! Go fix it!!
Spotty at best. Absolutely love Hearts of Space. The program is wonderful and should definitely be enjoyed but you are better of listening online. Try your local public radio station or the website. This thing has to be in the foreground or it stops working. Phone can't be asleep (screen dark) or it stops working. Since so much of the joy of this music is being able to, well, space out to it, the fact that it needs to be babysat to work is a huge negative.
Useless app. It doesn't even make it through the voice over before it stops. And it's not because it's buffering because it doesn't resume playing. I'm not sure what the developers are updating with new releases but it is certainly not the bugs users are complaining about. If they ever do get it working right, i.e., play entire episodes without stopping, then I'd like to see the ability to cast the music. I'd like to be able to listen to episodes cast from my phone, while working on my tablet.
