This app takes advantage of desperate people by taking away cheaper parking rate options when their parking is about to expire. I have paid hourly rates at a specific location before, but when I went to extend my session remotely, I was only given an option to pay full daily rates. There is also no phone support, so this is not something that can be resolved in any time urgent manner.
Reviews for HonkMobile: Pay for Parking
← Back to HonkMobile: Pay for ParkingThis is the most convoluted app I have EVER used for parking, it took me 25 minutes to finally get to paying for my parking, one big issue is, it needed to be updated, but that flashed on the screen and disappeared so fast I couldn't read it until the 3rd time around, after the update it made me re-enter all my Credit card data, everthough it was already in the app, I'm GLAD theres only 1 place I go that I need this app, and I don't go there often...
The app is easy to use but a couple of things I don't like. If you are done early, there is no refund if you end the session early. So the next time I underestimated, but then when trying to add extra time, can't add a half hour, minimum was an hour. So twice now overpaying. Other parking apps aren't as restrictive.
Ok this is ridiculous. They have now added a .25 cent service fee for each transaction so am added .50 to .75 cents per day. It may sound petty but that adds up when its already $1.50 per hour and no option to pay for less than 1 hour. Talk about nickle and diming people! I haven't had any problem with this app but I will probably stop using it and walk over to pay when needed instead.
I was forced to use this as they removed the meters from the street for construction. While not the apps fault it's stupid when you have no other means available and your forced to pay a convience fee. Your also forced to create an account and into preset denominations. I don't call that convenient when you want to pay and quickly go in.
Terrible App. You can go to the ticket machines and get a better hourly rate. it's a couple of dollars for an hour or two at departure bay, yet the best hourly the app can muster is $18 for a full day! Why offer the option of an hourly rate if your app is incapable of giving it??? I will be removing this app forth with.
I paid for parking through the app at 9:33 AM, yet got a ticket at 9:38 AM for "Failure to Display a Valid Receipt." How am I supposed to "display" a digital receipt, leave my phone on the dashboard all day? Instead of fixing their mistake, customer service demanded a credit card statement as proof, even though the app itself shows the payment. This system is either broken or a scam. Avoid if you can.
The app was still counting the available seconds(!) when I reached the car (less than a minute left) but the yellow parking violation notice , $30 fine was already attached below the wiper blades. I ran to the officers who were just few cars away to show the app and exactly then, in front of their face, the notification pops up , parking just expired. All they say, they can't do anything in their system it had already been expired before,so they issued the ticket. Maybe there is few seconds or more discrepancy between the app time and enforcement system time but why is it my problem? They issued the ticket exactly the minute it was expired (nice of them, too, let this be their greatest pleasure in their life), but regardless, the app was still counting down. This is one problem. Other problem is, it also shows a warning 15 minutes before expiration. But if you add that 15 minutes to the time of the notification, it goes beyond the expiration by 3 minutes (in my case) so that is also misleading. And I paid for this, just to get an unjust ticket.
Worst Parking app ever. I wish there is any rating below 1 star. I was unable to use my app have to delete the old one and install again. At there is not freaking sign in the parking lot tell me what is the lot number. Guess what, I paid it then after that I realized it paid to a totally different parking lot where I use to park. Is that default? When I trying to get back my car and find a station to pay. There is parking ticket on my windshield. Nice. GREAT JOB Honk pay. I want my money back!
Garbage. This app is total waste of time. After downloading it creating profile filling all my informations, I have tried to add my credit card for payment. Nope there is an error so I have tried three other credit card but none was able to be added due to some error. There was a message to contact them via email. Really do you think I am gonna spend extra days just to try to give you access to my credit card? Somebody should test this app before make it accessible for users.
Using this app is a much worse overall experience compared to paying via a normal meter. It's a more difficult and time consuming process, requires the collection of more personal information by a third party (the honk app) and charges additional transaction fees, making parking more expensive. Yet another example of an unnecessary app being developed that makes all our lives worse.
The App costs you more!!!!! The rates in the App and website are marked up higher than what are shown in the physical pay machine once it's opened up. I'm going to uninstall the App. It's a dishonest business practice to hide the marked up rates in the pay machine. Thus, users cannot compare the rates, cheating!!!!
Works well, although I'd like the ability to turn off the location warning (I don't keep my location on on my phone, and it gives you a popup every time warning that you're more than 15 km from your 'location'. It also seems to default to sending emails every time (unlike PayByPhone) which I'm not sure anyone asked for . . . there may be a way to turn it off though, I just haven't bothered to look it up.
I use the app at ferry terminals and other locations in coastal BC. It's a huge improvement over physical pay kiosks, but there are still inconvenient limitations to selection menus that translate to users having to pay for time they do not need. I've also learned that the app's notifications can't be relied on to actually work in terms of ensuring that you're notified of sessions about to expire, etc. Use it, but don't rely on the notifications as reminders that will allow you to avoid tickets.
App needs refinement. Extremely predatory practices. Rates for parking times that don't exist on the physical pay machines are listed on the app. E.g., if a few hrs are remaining for the day you will see a full day rate even though it shouldn't be listed and should match the physical machine! Very incompetent and rude (Karen type) customer service that blames their client for app set up when it's clearly a logical error in the app design. 🙄
The honk mobile app is pretty clear. However, there is a huge problem with the app or the system. it's set up with charging you initial prices when you extend. If a lot has rate for the first hour and then a smaller rate for every half hour after. If you choose to extend rather than charging you the extra half hour rate it starts you over again with the initial rate. this is a money grab function. boo.
The Honk app has a nice map view that shows the cost of parking to make it easy to find a reasonably priced lot. Being able to extend parking time from inside the restaurant (or wherever) is amazing! Honk clearly automatically upgrades you to the daily maximum without you having to guess at different durations to see if the price changes. Best parking app available in Vancouver: better than PayByPhone, HangTag, or ZipBy!
You can't extend a session even though it appears like you can. If a session expires then you have to pay extra when you exit on a credit card, not the app, and it doesn't extend your session. There is no information telling you the conditions of day or weekend passes. I wasted $60 on passes that I thought I was using to extend sessions, but if you don't physically drive your vehicle to the entrance and scan the code, you just wasted a pass. A weekend pass is 12 hours not a day. Big thumbs down!
Too complicated. Just wanted to pay and park once in Raleigh. Took a picture of the instructions and walked to where I was going since I had small kids with me. Had to download an app, create an account, then it asked for my plate # but this was not mentioned on instructions in lot. Had to go back out to get plate #. Had to scan my credit card but it didn't work after multiple tries. Took over 20 minutes & all I wanted was to pay $3 cash to park fast. Could've found a free spot in 10 minutes.
I'm sorry, but this app (more likely the company, but I don't know for sure) is terrible from day one. Downloaded it, paid for 2 hours, came back from the salon and coffee shop to find that my car had been towed before the time expired. And, from other reviews, there might be something fishy about what they do with card info (a requisite to use the app). Do not download and use. Delete it and never bother with it again.
