So here's my honest take on Hoopla Digital. I've tested a bunch of ebook/audiobook apps and this one's pretty solid. The selection is great and I love that I can just use my library card to access everything for free. The app itself is well-designed and easy to navigate, even if it takes a little getting used to at first. My only real gripe is that the catalog can be a bit hit-or-miss, with some popular titles missing. But overall, it's a really convenient way to discover new books, comics, and more without having to spend a ton of money. If you're an avid reader/listener, I'd definitely recommend giving Hoopla a try.

Pros

  • Tons of content across ebooks, audiobooks, comics, and more
  • Free to use with your library card, no subscription required
  • Well-designed app that's easy to navigate once you get the hang of it
  • Great way to discover new authors and genres you might not find otherwise
  • Can download stuff for offline access

Cons

  • Selection can be a bit limited compared to buying books/movies outright
  • Takes some time to figure out how to use all the features
  • Availability of popular titles is hit-or-miss
  • Ads can get annoying if you don't pay for the premium version

Description

Been using Hoopla Digital for a couple months now. It’s basically a free app that gives you access to tons of audiobooks, ebooks, comics, movies, and more using just your library card. Pretty solid if you’re into reading or watching stuff on your phone.

Here’s what you can do – there’s a big selection of content across different genres, from bestselling novels to indie comics. You can borrow stuff just like a physical library, no late fees. It’s got some cool features too like being able to listen to audiobooks on your commute or download ebooks to read offline. Took me a while to figure out how to navigate everything but it’s pretty intuitive once you get the hang of it.

Look, if you’re the kind of person who’s always looking for new books, shows, or comics to check out, you’ll probably like Hoopla. It’s not perfect – the selection can be a bit limited compared to buying stuff outright – but overall it does the job and it’s free with your library card. Worth giving it a shot.

I've foolishly used audible for years before finding out about hoopla through my local library. It is rare I search for an audiobook that isn't available on here! I get...

Good could be better. I can only complain so much about free audiobooks. however, it would be wonderful if I could listen to a 5-minute preview to decide if I...

This app needs improvement. It's very glitchy and I don't use it unless the books I'm looking for are not available on Libby - which is a far superior app....
