So I really like this app, I want to give it 5 stars but.... 1. It won't play anything all the way through. It just stops playing mid way through the selection. Sometimes I fall asleep and don't realize it fully till I see the app in the morning, and sometimes it stops playing before I'm asleep. That's not helpful at all. 2. I look for the longest running sound tracks. Ie: over 90 minutes. The current filter only searches over 60 minutes. There's a lot to sift through to find the longer tracks.
Reviews for Insight Timer - Meditation App
← Back to Insight Timer - Meditation AppAccess to a ton of content, which is great. Navigating that content is hit or miss and the search leaves something to be desired. The app constantly interrupts you for input, check-ins, teacher ratings, which is fine except there's no obvious way to turn them off. It just forced me to reconfirm my email address, year of birth, and the whole "why you're here" section. An app that feels needy and insecure...
This app was, at one point, the perfect app. but that was quite a while ago, and many iterations. much like facebook, they choose to change it on a whim, changing the entire platform. this is by far one of the most stress-inducing apps I have on my phone. I wish there was a viable alternative, but all the other apps just don't have as much music selection. as soon as I find a viable alternative, I will immediately switch. this app frequently makes me want to pull my hair out.
July 2025 thinking about finding another, more simple app.. Too many pop-ups that can't be disabled. Too many menus to find the features I've used for 9 years! Subscription is expensive & according to most reviews not worth it anymore, so I won't re-subscribe. Nov. 2021 Love this app, it got me into regular meditation. Some of the live sessions have been transformative! Made some really beautiful connections through the groups feature too. Thank you for creating such a lovely community :)
This used to be a great app, but now they're heavily pushing user engagement with forcing you to click "I'm committed" after a meditation and several more selections before you can start another meditation, with no way to skip these steps. Is it just me, or shouldn't a meditation app allow me to be, ahem, MINDFUL of what I "commit" to?
All I wanted was to download a free audio file & downloading from the website is no longer allowed. I don't have fast internet so streaming doesn't work. I don't appreciate being forced to install an app then being forced to do the trial of the paid version to download anything so I can listen to it properly offline. I never do trials of paid versions because it's mean to glimpse a luxury I will never own & cancelling is a nuisance. I don't have an income. No app is worth renting indefinitely.
With every update, it gets harder and harder to stay in love with this app. This is what I use to fall asleep. Once, I could easily and quickly bring up the next track, which is critical when I'm on the verge of falling asleep. Suddenly insight timer is making me play twenty questions in order to continue. I wish it was something that I could disable. I understand this app is also used for actual meditation and these games might be helpful but I just want to sleep.
This has been my go to app for a meditation timer for years. But it is harder to justify using with the constant dialogs, questions, social features, etc. I don't want to track my meditation duolingo style. I just want to use the timer with a bell sound. I am sure the other features are great, but if you just want a timer. This app is missing the mark.
I love this app - SO many different tracks to choose from in the free version, it's amazing. however, I can no longer find where to "SET AN INTENTION" for the day to show up in my widget. It looks like it was switched to a "goal" which I don't need - I already have many to do list apps and notepads for that. I just want to set an intention/reminder and see it on my widget on my home screen. Is there a way to get that back???
A fantastic resource for mindfulness, meditation, daily reflection and journaling. Even better you can access a bunch of the content for free! You can bookmark your favorite meditations, follow your favorite teachers, create and name folders to organize content you've saved, write journal entries and more....ALL for FREE! The best app I've found for providing free, accessible content. If you can afford to support the app, content creators and teachers the Plus version has even more to offer!
This free app has a wide variety of meditations, talks, and courses. In order to access the courses, you need to pay for a subscription which costs about $5/ month. I have had many wonderful experiences with this app and have learned a lot from the instructors. The high quality of content and breadth and depth of material continually affords me moments of joy and inspiration. It is a surprising vector for change and vehicle for transformation.
I love this app! I actually pay for a membership which is crazy because I'm extremely cheap. My only issue is that it's getting a little cluttered in terms of features/prompts. I think the ideal number of prompts to be presented with after a meditation is 0 to 1. That said, please never get rid of the 8-hour nature soundscapes. They have improved my sleep so much.
This app literally pulls me out of the darkest hours of my life. What i really enjoy is that you dont have to pay for plus to really get the benefits. The paid version definitely has more in-depth structured courses for deep diving into inner work, but they also have shorter free courses that introduce wonderful concepts and give you enough to work with. There’s also live yoga classes pretty much 24/7, and that' with the free version. Basically, this app is really trying to actually help people.
3.5 stars. GREAT track library, but app is SUPER busy: too many sections to check. It's cluttered & difficult to find what you want to use regularly. There should be more redundancy, a streamlined interface, so you can find meds more easily. They claim 1000s of tracks, but I feel bottlenecked when searching and having to scroll thru 1000s of tracks ONE. AT. A. TIME. What am I missing out on bc I didn't want to scroll for hours to find some great deep cuts? 5 star library, 2-star functionality.
This is exactly what I needed. The free content is not limiting you from achieving the apps intention. The plus membership is nice, and I did participate in a trial, but I needed to see what the free content was about. The app doesn't force you or constantly throws ads or suggestions of a membership. The selection of teachers and filters makes this app amazing. This was the first meditation app on my list to try, and now I dont feel like trying anything else. Thank you!!!
I use this app nearly every day, and paid for the in-app purchase. I'm generally very pleased, but I'm downgrading to 3 stars for some behavior that has been frustrating. I set the timer for an hour, and then cease meditation after 5-20 minutes. I wish there was a count up option, but this was fine since it still logged it. I've seen it said that this would be changed, but 1 star off for it combined with the below... When I do this, it appears that sometimes the log isn't transmitted to the server until some time later (this may be because I close and swipe from the drawer pretty quickly) but my consecutive days keeps getting reset to 1 if I meditate near midnight and this happens, since it's recorded as if I meditated past midnight. This ruins the gamification aspect of the app, which is a huge part of it. If there was an API to easily download the CSV I'd just do my own processing and start a day at four of five in the morning (which would capture the spirit of consecutive days for me better anyway) but I have to manually log in to grave the data, so that doesn't work either. Update: the CSV they provide rounds down in minutes, ick. Better than Clock, but switching apps now.
This is definitely the best app for meditation and sleep. And it's free! You can pay for the Plus membership, but there are literally thousands of offerings for free. No other app does that! And the teachers are amazing. I use Insight Timer everyday. I love the guided meditation, music, breathwork, yoga nidra, ambient sounds, etc. Something for everyone!
I have used this app for many many many years. I love it. HOWEVER recently these prompts that you force me to engage with and there being no way to skip or get back to the home screen without doing it or force closing the app is getting under my skin. I get that is a cool feature, but I don't want to be forced to use it man. just put a skip on every screen. I don't need another journal. I'm here to meditate. please.
To their credit, they have removed the spammy aggressive notifs that had no opt-out. But they seem to have just changed them to being in-app instead! Now I have to navigate through a bunch of annoying popups asking me to commit to this and that, do I want this track to play automatically next time or something--every second I'm forced to engage with this junk I can't even close without agreeing to it is a second I think about switching apps. Please! Insight was so good! You don't need this junk!
The app is great, covers a lot of different aspects of self healing including meditation, courses and journaling. I like the daily intention widget. I like that there is someone for everyone, a variety of voices, techniques, etc. Some sections have spelling corrections and some do not which I find a little aggravating - but that is my only complaint.
