This is perhaps the most unreliable app on my smartphone. It constantly says my Roomba is offline, yet it allows me to reboot it, so clearly there is a connection. The connection settings indicate a very strong signal, so I don't know why it never shows as connected. It runs properly on the schedule I set, but I have to check the Clean Base vacuum bag periodically since the app can't tell me when it needs to be replaced.
Reviews for iRobot Home (Classic)
← Back to iRobot Home (Classic)difficult to log into and once you finally do, difficult to navigate from one page to another. Like now, I wanted to see my account. I didn't want to make any changes after I looked at it but I had to save to try to leave page. Now I'm stuck looking at a big green check mark with no back to main menu option. I don't know how anyone is giving this app 5 stars?? I fear getting logged out because I already have a full time job.
Horrible. The device is a brick without the app, and the app puts you in an endless loop with no way out if the battery dies on the vacuum. Factory reset is a joke. It's not device specific, it gives you either or instructions, and it will not allow you to set up a new account in a vain attempt to start fresh... One account is broken, and you can't have another. I've done a factory reset, no less than a dozen times, because you have no other option. Again, you are in an endless loop.
Sometimes, it works. Sometimes, it doesn't. I've been communicating with their customer service for weeks and they cannot do anything to stop the unit from launching itself (even when unplugged), driving around in circles, emptying it's bin REPEATEDLY at 3:00 AM, making chime noises at night (again even if it's unplugged), forgetting the map of a room occasionally, or not finishing a job. I've had the unit for 18 months, but they only warranty it for 12. So, it's too bad for me. Its a lemon.
Very disappointing. Can't set a schedule or use any mapping features. Original schedule set 2 years ago set to "vacuum everywhere" and cannot be changed. They also took away access to the "owners guide" The ONLY functionality is Start, Stop and Return to home. That's it. I know it's an older model i1 but the functions should still work. Now I'm in the market for maybe a Shark or some other brand other than Roomba.
For the first time ever it when home when I hit the button. If it keeps it up I'll adjust my stars. Usually it will run for at least another 15-30 minutes after I sent it "home." It was so frustrating because it's not quiet. Edit: dropped my rating from 3 stars to 1 star. I should not have to listen to the vacuum go for another 30 mins after I send it home. Having to pick it up and put it on the charger at this point.
works pretty well overall. I used to leave notifications off, but recently turned them on and it's nice knowing the robot completed a job or if it got stuck. The area cleaned map is a great feature, too. Only thing I'm taking a star off is the marketing "sale" popups for replacement parts when I go to check the "Parts Health". Those are kind of unnecessary since I keep spare parts on hand always.
The self-emptying robot is nothing short of amazing. Does a fine job 30 days in. Update: my i7 robot has been having major difficulties mapping my second floor area. I've erased and started over multiple times, and even moved the base to a location nearer the Wi-Fi access point. The initial mapping run usually goes well enough, but subsequent runs simply map new, extremely or and inaccurate partial maps. I've got all the curtains open, all the lights on and it's plenty bright in all rooms.
Update: I just updated the app and STILL no manual! Also, I can't find a troubleshooting section, the app just takes me to the website where I can FIND the service centre (helpfully, it does not lead directly to the service centre or troubleshooting page). My Roomba is pretty basic so no need for preprogramming or mapping etc. However, I have no manual because when I tap on the option in the app it doesn't do anything. I'm sure there's one to be found online but I really can't be fussed.
Every time I open the app it says the roomba died and cannot connect. I go check it and it is docked correctly. I take it off, place it back on, lights light up, and it still says cannot connect. I have rebooted and reconnected to the wifi so many times. It eventually works some days but some days I have to give up. It is such a hassle it was not like this with my older version roomba years ago which had zero issues connecting. The wifi router and roomba base are in the same spot.
I love my little J7+ roomba! But he has a few issues. Hal's not always the smartest, and will often leave one corner of my house dirty even though I set up a clean zone to hit twice. His pathing in a room is often very bad. The dock vaccum is WAY louder than a modern upright vaccum. Finally, I'd really appreciate more in-depth settings. Let me decide when to use the dock vaccum, how well to clean edges, etc. 8/25 Update - I'm getting a different brand for my next vacuum. iRobot is way behind.
overall, it is convenient . I have a dust /mop model, and it says mop bin is on it quite often . when it hasnt been on or switched , which is annoying . it also goes down a small step and gets stuck when it's not supposed . other than that, it's convenient. also, if you have kids sometimes clean up small things or charger cords before running, it is more of a chore than sweeping, lol
rough start but good now...great customer service!! I bought a refurbished unit. It was not evacuating the bin into the base station. I wasn't even complaining but responded to a followup email from them and mentioned it. After sending pictures of the unit(s) they determined it was a base station issue and sent me a new one. It works great now. I'm pretty impressed with their proactive attention and problem solving. Especially considering it was a refurb item! good product, good company RR
Works pretty well. I wish the app would let you adjust the Robots battery charge threshold for return to home. My roomba I7+ often dies just a few feet before reaching the docking station, so i have to go pick it up and manually dock it. Of course, I then have to wait for it to charge before I can do anything else with it. august 2025 update.. got a 2nd roomba and tried several things, but can't seem to get the app to add the 2nd device. will have to seek help.
I don't run my roomba often but it seems every time I do, it requires an update. Fine whatever. However after updating it tonight, it keeps saying it can't connect. What is the point in spending so much money on these things if they refuse to work. The roomba is fully charged and if I take it off the base, it can successfully return when I press its home button. So my conclusion is the app is the problem.
Used to be so great. Now my wife and I can't have separate accounts. There is no option to re-map the main floor. Or it doesn't activate. Also the entire Customer Support access is within the app itself--no way to save or bookmark a page. Also, the Chat with a specialist button doesn't do anything when you click it. Our Roomba i7+ used to have the rooms marked perfectly..now it goes into different rooms when it's not supposed to. There is no re-mapping option!
It seems to me that I'm spending more time reconnecting my roomba to my wifi and waiting for it to charge again than I am actually using it. It's very difficult to use if it's always offline and or charging. We've had it for about 6 months now and it's never actually mapped our home due to what was mentioned above. There is really nowhere else to place the dock besides the kitchen. The router is in the dining area. They're about 20 feet apart
I had mine bought specifically with animal hair in mind. It does ok at sweeping, it might as well be a door stop when it comes to carpet. I've tried anti-static spray, too. It seems to lose connection a lot, and I write this review after I told it to run, and it stopped mid-process, and didn't register that it made an attempt at all, so, much more difficult to find out the problem. For the price, and the hype of all the work it would save me, I don't have to sweep my hardfloors as much, I guess.
The device works well, even goes places i didn't think it could. The control through the app is straightforward and easily navigated. Scheduling is simple and the interface walks you through the tasks well. The app shows where it went, I just wish I could edit the map and mark out rooms. I could on another app from this company, and it was nice to be able to tell it where to go and not go. But that's my only additional want.
You guys need to get it together! I cringe at the thought of going into this app.I just got a new email address, same account number but for some reason the app does not recognize my password. Reset as instructed three times because each time it read; SUCCESS; wrong it is not recognizing my password even after the reset. Always been a problem for your app. We need to upgrade our robot vac, but we are switching brands and it will not be one of your vacuums. Signed sick and tired!🤨😒
