So my review was removed. It worked great for the first month. A month later it stopped working for my daughter she would be in tears and got in the habit of shouting the word at the tablet. I tired on multiple tablets and phones with head phones. Now i the last week I sit next to both my son and daughter as they have to say the word over and over again and start getting frustrated. They are saying the correct word but it just times out despite the microphone showing it is hearing stuff.
Reviews for Learn to Read - Readability
← Back to Learn to Read - ReadabilityWhat an awesome application. It allowed the kids to build confidence in their independent reading and as a bonus my kiddo with speech issues really had to focus on his speech so the ai could understand him.
It I could give 0 stars I would. this app just frustrates struggling readers by not letting them sound the word out and despite them saying the word not picking up on it.
The app froze and would not let us in it kept asking for us to subscribe even though we have already subscribed. It seemed like it was going to be decent, but it did miss words that my son said correctly
My son struggles with speech delays that affect how he hears and forms sounds. He also has dyslexia. Reading has been a mountain he could not conquer. In just a few short weeks of using this app he has improved so much. Seeing his confidence grow and hearing him sound out the words and read them on his own is amazing. He has gone from reluctant to excited. Thank you for this wonderful tool!!
this app is bad on so many levels. max time for the kids to sound out a difficult word is seven seconds. The K level books are harder than they should be. When it has to help with a difficult word, it doesn't sound out the word for the kid so they can learn how to sound things out, just reads the word to them. this doesn't work to teach reading, it's just teaching sight words. only redeeming factor is the free trial. canceled immediately
My country uses the UK language. But despite choosing the UK tutor voice, the words are still being read using the US language. So i have to always correct my son. And sometimes when my son says a word, the app is unable to recognise his voice and kept asking him to repeat the words. so it became very frustrating for my son. Other than these 2 issues, it looks like a good app.
What I love about this app is that readability allows your child to read books and passages that are at a level that they are at. The book highlights the word you are supposed to be reading aloud as it listens to your words it will also help you along as well. For example, if you cannot read a specific word a message will pop up prompting you to ask for help by clicking on the speaker button and it will allow your child to hear what they are supposed to be reading. I highly encourage this app!
Need to boost the volume. The app is great for kids needing a little more help with reading in a fun quick way. The app helps them read with fluency and teaches words they may not know how to pronounce/ helps to correct their pronunciation. My child enjoys using this app however at times the volume is low. No matter what setting I use I can barely hear the words and my child has severe hearing loss so he not hear the words at that setting.
You're supposed to repeat sight words to the AI, and it literally never hears you. It's really hard to learn when you're stuck on something the child already knows, and the AI will not let you move past it. Both my daughter and I find it very frustrating. Luckily, I didn't pay for this, and I just did a free trial because it's absolutely garbage. I like the dyslexia feature, but if the rest of the app is unusable, it doesn't matter that it has that accessibility feature.
The app is okay and easy to use. The kids liked it but my issue is after the free trial I paid for 1 month to continue to try it with the kids. They were not interested anymore so I cancelled. It says I can continue to use until the end month but when I log on it says I have to pay for monthly or year long subscription. It's only the the 6th and the renewal date is the 28th. 20 bucks down the drain if I can't use it
This app has been a blessing! It has been very helpful in boosting my dyslexic child's confidence in his ability to read aloud in class. The AI isn't perfect, occasional problems similar to using voice commands on a remote, Alexa or dictating with Word or texts. Hasn't been overly frustrating since he is used to other devices not always understanding him. It doesn't replace reading aloud or doing reading lessons, but it does give him the opportunity to work independently. Which is amazing!
At the moment I'll have to rate this app as a 3. I was really enjoying this app and all the information given. My children really enjoy using it as well and enjoy the books. I give it 3 for now because if the kids press buttons too fast, they can accidentally delete their profile and all their data is gone. If they can have a password to alter the app, that would be helpful. Also, I added my child back in and now the parent part doesn't work so I can't see the progress.
This app was ok. The concept is great. But it doesn't understand or register the word "the" when either of us say it in either variation and then when my kid says "um" it counts like 3 words he didn't say. The receptor needs work. After he read about 10 books the library jumped from the low level he was at to showing him books at the 400-600 lexicon they looked alot more fun then the ones at his level he got so excited then we opened and he wasn't ready now he won't do the app.
Waste of money and your kids time! The AI has a hard time understanding the children correctly and causes more frustration than help. If you talk with a foreign accent it will understand it better. The book library doesn't narrow down the selection to the level you choose. It let's them choose books that are too easy for them and doesn't help to improve their skills. The reports are not accurate or helpful. The reading speed is off due to AI not understanding. Customer service is not helpful.
This app is a great idea and we were so excited to try it. I wish it worked better! As it is, it's mostly just frustrating. It constantly freezes up and doesn't pick up what my child is saying. It keeps correcting him when he's actually reading the word, which just discourages him. Also, I noted several very basic grammatical errors, which is totally unacceptable for a children's reading app. Definitely not worth paying for in its current state.
Best app for my struggling little reader! It is easy for him to use alone. I've tested so many apps, and this one my far exceeded my expectations. I dont have to be on standby to help him use the app. I can easily keep up with his progress and my 2 other kids all different ages. It doesn't rush them to read the passages and helps when they can't say a word by simply clicking the word. I love this app!
I really want to love this app, but after 3 weeks, we are still having consistent issues with the AI recognizing/hearing many words my child reads. It is frustrating for both of us to have to wait for the app to move on from words that it doesn't recognize. This seems like an issue that would be easy to fix if an actual person was testing the books before releasing them. I have emailed tech support many times and they keep "forwarding the issue to the developers." Not sure we'll pay again.
I'm a teacher with a reading specialist degree. I was very disappointed in this app. I had high hopes for the voice recognition, but it does not work well. it also says the word too quickly, so kids don't have the chance to try to apply decoding skills (which is what struggling readers actually need). The supposed reading levels are way off as well. The firsr grade level had WAY too many words that weren't decodable and the 4th grade level was WAY too easy. it was maybe 2nd grade level.
when it works, it is great. unfortunately that only seems to be about 30% of the time. the app has issues opening and is currently frozen on both my phone and my son's tablet. when the app does open, it only understands my son part of the time. when it does, it is great and a huge help for him. however, he ends up so frustrated because it doesn't hear him correctly and won't move on.
