This is the best app I have found! I have been playing drums live for 30 years and this app does exactly what I needed! It's not a metronome, it's a musical "speedometer". It lets me know if I start rushing or dragging. Fantastic!
Reviews for liveBPM - Beat Detector
← Back to liveBPM - Beat DetectorWorks perfectly. Tested with several known beat tracks and detects. Very well. I will be using this for playing live and/or practicing. Also using to record some vintage drum machine sounds from a 1975 Baldwin Fun Machine that uses a potentiometer that controls the BPM and doesn't directly let you choose the exact BPM. Thanks for making this.
Works great as a speedometer when playing gigs. I put it on a cymbal stand w a clamp and tells me in real time if Im rushing/ dragging etc. Also works great on anything with a tempo especially watching a band to see if the drummer is solid. Simple app that does what it says it does
Been using this app for years well worth the price. Great for the gigging and practicing musician it's a great way to keep the song in check. Only request would be to add a portrait orientation option and perhaps a dark mode for on stage?
Would be 5 stars but...after using it twice in a day it comes up a blank screen when trying to open the app. I even tried a force close. The only thing that fixes the issue is a restart of the device. I am an android user on the Samsung Galaxy S9 plus. This happened on my previous device as well.
Fantastic app! I tried several other BPM apps to automatically read out BPM's of my hip hop vinyl records and none of them worked - not even close. The only thing that worked was to manually "tap" an app to count BPM - that is certainly not something I want to do. liveBPM worked immediately and it's FAST. Within 4 bars of most vinyl I tested, it knew the BPM. Perfect for setting up my records before a set to put them in BPM order. Money well spent as it saves me tons of time.
I've used this now for a couple of years as I play drums. Though my tempos are pretty consistent, the band I was with at the time needed me to be even more so. Since using LiveBPM and it has changed my drumming life. I have it installed on my android phone so it is with me all time; I never play a gig without it. At first I wanted to look at it constantly, but now I just glance at it when I feel a change to check myself. But it's not a metronome that you follow, it follows you. So it has helped me by allowing me to feel my speeding up or slowing down and make the adjustment. Kind of like letting me make the mistake and fix it instead of dictating what it wants me to do. A must for any drummer since we are the keepers of the time! BTW Daniel, how about versions for Windows and Linux?
My music teacher told me to work on my timing. I thought my timing was fine. LiveBPM gives me an objective way to measure my tempo while practicing. Played a few measures for 3 minutes and the graph was far from the flat line that would have showed perfect timing. My music teacher was right. But now I have a tool to correct the problem; being able to measure and graph my honest playing tempo. Even though this hasn't been updated recently, it works beautifully on Android 11 One-UI 3.1.
Love this! Use it for live gigging and rehearsal for drums. Could you not have it change from 159 to 80 (halftime beat)? That's right in a common bpm zone for me and it's annoying. Slight delay picking up beat but it's pretty accurate. Thanks!!
Performs an essential musical performance task and the display is easy to understand even with most of your attention on playing. Just noting that there have been no updates since 2017, and with the latest Android upgrade, it stopped working until I reinstalled it . It now gives a notice on install that it may not be compatible with the latest versions of Android. I rely on it, so hope it keeps up with Android and continues working. Do the developers need support for an updated version?
This app is absolutely fantastic. I love being able to have a graph showing how dynamic my tempo is. My only ask for liveBPM 2.0 would be for WearOS incorporation. Being able to see my bpm right there on my wrist would be sweet. If the app could use the watch motion to to detect tempo that'd be pretty cool too.
I use in worship service in lieu of click track. As a percussionist, this app allows me to basically keep a mindful eye on the tempo of the group creating more flexibility. Much like the speedometer in your car it will help you keep your speed in check. Definitely worth the small amount of money.
Great..even though needing an update. It's much easier to manage the tempo than using a metronome when playing with a band and it is easy slow down or speed up when you are only a few bpm off . At first I was disappointed because it only displays in landscape view. However I worked around it by using the splitscreen mode on my Samsung s20
This app is an excellent, must-have app for all musicians! Well worth the price. I've been using it for years at practice and at all gigs. The graph is a great feature. One request for additional capability is I'd like to be able to save the graphs. Sometimes I'm told my drumming was too fast/slow at certain parts and a saved graph could settle any arguments! One more thing- the developer is a fantastic, responsive person. I had an issue once and he replied immediately to help me. Great app!!
Seems to be the only app out there that can detect tempo. *Update* three years later I'm STILL using this every day, every time I play. It has not been updated for a long time so I hope it continues to remain functional into new versions of Android, but I'd happily pay for times the price for this app.
Not sure how well this works with other instruments but I'm a drummer and this is a fantastic tool to have. I often use it during live performances. I purchased a phone clamp that attaches to my high hat stand, where it's in easy view and out of the way. When you count off the beat to a song it registers the BPM within a just few seconds of playing and I'll just look at it every now and then to make sure my tempo hasn't fluctuated to much in real time. It really helps to keep you in the pocket.
Works great, I use it a lot while practicing with band and on gigs and it is much better than classic metronome. I play mostly jazz, I often slow down or speed up and this helps me a lot to maintain same tempo without having to have earphones with clicking metronome. Don't expect that it will show you actual tempo precisely, but the most powerful feature is the graph, where you can see your tempo trend right away with quick blink of your eye.
I use this to a fault! probably my favorite most used app. I'm a working drummer and it has got me through so many gigs I can't even count. Especially when bonehead singers turn around and tell you you're rushing or dragging you could just point to the app 😃👍 New development is that when I switched to iPhone (under duress) now I don’t have access to the app anymore and it’s very disappointing. Any news when it will be available again????
I have bought this app. Works well. I use it for scales practise. It helps re-assure me that i have been in-sync with the metronome on a sustained basis. However there is one issue. It does not seem to work beyond 200 bpm !? Why ? This cannot be a limitation of the signal processing algorithms i suppose.
I have been so happy to have found this app. I had previously spent a bunch of money on a reverse metronome that didn't work well (which I then returned). Finding this app has been just great. Sometimes bands/drummers playing live to a metronome doesn't work well since once you are off, you are off. But, being able to see the tempo in real time makes that so easy. I highly recommend it for people who play live.
