Why a 3 rating? The exercises are much better than most similar apps, and the daily workout is quick, challenging, fun and varied; HOWEVER, denying access to your personal, cognitive analysis/quantitive data unless Premium is purchased is pretty much rubbed in your face throughout the app, and ultimately leaves you feeling like you are missing out on a lot (their selling strategy), which quite frankly sucks...more than most similar apps.
Reviews for Lumosity: Brain Training Games
← Back to Lumosity: Brain Training GamesSome of these games are as addicting as tetris. They are cute too. For example, there's one with identical coy fish swimming slowly in a pond. A piece of food appears and you click on a fish to feed it. Two seconds later, you get another piece of food, and you try to feed each fish only once. The sound effects, soft music, and animation are generally very pleasant. There are several games you might really enjoy, but it does take the makers a long time to develop new ones.
The games on here challenge your focus, attention, memory, speed, and a number of other essential cognitive skills. The number of games are limited, but each focuses on a different cognitive skill. Some are "more fun" than others, but that just means the "less fun" ones are likely something I could stand to train more. Very fun, but can be challenging!
Great game, but I'm not sure if it's worth the subscription. Notes for the developers: - Some games, such as Highway Hazard, are hard to play on bigger phones. The warnings are way too high above the street, so you can't see both. - River Rangers do not give proper explanation on higher lever when they introduce more animals. - where are the new upcoming games?
I really love this app and I paid for it for one year with the advertisement of new games. I never saw any new games so I finally canceled my premium subscription and went back to playing basic. I would be more than willing to pay for a yearly subscription if we got new games once in a while. This really does help and I used it as a stress reliever after our home was flooded from hurricane Ian and we had to live elsewhere. Give us some new games and you can make more money!
Where are the "new" games Lumosity? I have played this for years with zero issues ever. I have paid for the Premium version to check out the games that are never available via the free version, than became bored and decided the cost for unlimited access to the games I favored wasn't worth it, and am now back to the free version. New games/content to come? It's been years with no new content! Great app for keeping your brain sharp while having fun and boosting self-esteem via your stats.
Used this app after a head concussion through my speech therapist's office. I'm pretty disappointed it's changed to where you can only access three games a day. Pretty sure you could check out a few in each category, then pay for more advanced/intricate games. If there is a free or cheaper option out there, someone let me know. I'll keep searching.
I've tried a good number of "brain training" apps, and Lumosity has a wide variety of legitimately fun and creative games. Rather than a chore, I look forward to the tests and often play my favorites throughout the day. I also remember playing the "Migration" game over a decade ago on PC, and I was delighted to see how the training has expanded far beyond the simpler games. The current games have been adapted well for mobile, and the Insights are actually useful. I've subscribed premium 👍
I've been using this site since I was probably 14/15 and it's always been wonderful. I preferred when I didn't have to pay a subscription, but I understand the need for it. It *is* worth the money, if you stick to it. Dropped one star because you can only play a few games from a limited selection of genres in the free version. You have to pay to, full stop. I think 1-2 games being available for free in *each genre* would be a good compromise. Fix that and I'll happily give five stars.
In all the ads I've seen for this app, I expected much, much more, and I'm honestly very disappointed. You have to pay for a premium account, and you only recieve 3 free daily games otherwise. Quite frankly, this disappointed me, as I was actually very excited to use this to my ability to learn and process information much quicker, and I thought it might even help my mentality and intellect overall. I just don't see that happening when we're only provided with 3 free daily games, and expected to pay if we want anything else. Otherwise, the app is wonderful--no disruptive adds, neat composition, etc.
I really enjoy the times I get to squeeze in my daily workouts....I know it is best to have the premium subscription, but it is very enriching to simply redo more than once a day,the 3 that are available free. I like to believe these are helpful in keeping your brain sharp in some way...I think if you also practice calm and quiet meditation with other lifestyle upgrades,it can't hurt, right?! It's at east not just an app to socially compete or buy your way to the top,you gotta do the work!
The free premium trial was good. The games are fun. One HUGE problem, though. It costs 13 DOLLARS A MONTH(after free trial). After the trial, you only get 3 games, randomly chosen every day, not even a full "workout" apparently. The games are good, but not even CLOSE to being worth that much a month. I also heard they were sued for misinformation, so that's also pretty shady. Honestly, if occasional, non-intrusive ads could help mitigate this, I'm all for it(prob not). Overall, don't download.
The coding and art is nice, but the app itself feels fairly useless - the mini games are cute, but don't actually help with much and feel very rail-roaded. There are much better options out there for actual brain-training, depending on what focus you're looking for (memory / language / math / etc.) and Lumosity isn't worth ANYWHERE near the cost it asks for. Other apps may be more expensive in their subscriptions, but are much more worth it in actual functional training aids in my opinion.
I really enjoy the free version of this app and plan on getting the paid version to access all the games. I only have one issue; I wish there were some metric in the free version that tells you how well you did in the game. In elevate, even in the free version, you're graded on if you did good, great, or excellent based on how many mistakes you made and the time left over. It feels kind of pointless to keep my streak in the meantime.
Very good even with only having the free play. This is a great game for sharpening you brain. The free games are well thought out and easy enough to play and enjoy. The cost for premium (subscription) is too costly in my opinion. But, the free games is what keeps me coming back. You get 3 different games each day.
I feel like I got ripped off. $60 feels like way too much for 40 games. It's just the same games over & over again. They either become so difficult it's frustrating, or when you've completed all the levels, there's no more challenge. I loved tidal treasures when it first released but now I have everything memorized so it's just incredibly burdensome and just a waste of time. Trouble brewing is my favorite but it glitches. I am also neurodivergent so some games aren't accessible/ user friendly
Lumosity and I have had an on again off again relationship when it comes to premium status. When I can work it into my budget, I do, it is absolutely worth it. The basic workout each day tends to revisit the same few games on rotation. I still love to complete those 3 games a day regardless. This really is the best brain training app out there! Trust me, all the others rip off this app and not well. Great job Lumosity folks!
It's a pretty great app! after a really bad car crash (not my fault), I was in the hospital and therapy centers for a little over a year. one of the speech therapists I had suggested lumosity to help my recovery along the way. all of the games are pretty incredible. I strongly believe the driving course game with all the different obstacles helped my reaction time greatly. I remember when I started, my mph was in the 60s, and now my high score is 137, and I can drive again in real life!!!
i really enjoy this app. i used to use a lot on a different device a few years ago, and i decided to get it on this one. even though i am locked out of most of the games each day for not having premium, the three free daily ones are still really fun and all the games are good at training your brain. would definitely recommend getting this app :) EDIT: i forgot to add that there are also no ads. kudos to lumos labs for making their app not annoying to use :)
I like the challenges Lumosity uses for memory, logic, math, etc - for "brain training". I use the free version. If I could play more often, I'd probably subscribe. I feel these are good mental exercises; especially as I get older. If you play daily, on the free version, you don't know what challenges to expect for the day. It's definitely not boring. It's pretty much ad free. Not like the average online games. You don't have to pay to play... I like it.
