Reviews for Mimo: Learn Coding/Programming

The apps fine. I'll give it this, the lessons are great and its rather fun to learn everything. But from what I've seen you cant go back to any previous lessons to practice. So if you forget what something like
means then you're out of luck. Normally you could go to the glossary to look up what it means, but thats stuck behind a paywall. Speaking of which, $50 a year to unlock everything? Why not just do $50 as a one and done purchase? Nobody's gonna continue the subscription after a year.

Really good. Very easy to learn. I just spent 20 minutes trying to learn HTML the form of code used to make websites and I feel like I have a fairly decent and basic understanding of it's function, although it does have a heart system meaning that if you get a question wrong you lose a heart and if you want an infinite amount of them you have to pay a subscription but it's only 79$ a year which is fairly reasonable but I will definitely not be paying it.

This app is great! Too good to be true, honestly. I tried grasshopper, and many many many of the other coding apps, but they pale in comparison. I am currently learning python and this one actually allows you to learn the language fully without spending even a cent. There are incredibly non-intrusive ads that rarely pop up, and aren't videos you are forced to watch. You can learn many different coding languages, and I haven't checked those out yet. It is a bit slow-paced but that's not so bad.

Intro lessons are great if you get them done within the free trial period, but anything past that is locked behind the "max" subscription. The regular $60 subscription doesn't even get you to "if" statements on python, and they don't let you know until you've completed the intro. You also can't skip rudimentary lessons, which is draining.

It's a great app to start learning a little bit of code. The problem I have is certain problems arrive when answering coding questions and using their playgrounds feature. You can be typing on one line and it will shoot you down to the bottom. Essentially you can't write code in their app, it's to buggy. Also they trick you. "Buy our pro version to continue" than it's "hop onto a computer to continue" once your on the computer it's "buy max to continue" which is far more expensive than the pro.

A quick tutorial to get you started. Then it hits you with a subscription needed to actually take any lessons. You don't get a feel for the program before they want to charge you. Don't waste your time. EDIT: Installed again. Made it to the first "code challenge", won't let me do anything. Just says tap the code to start, unable to get it to do anything other than try to continue without a solution. You lose a heart (you get x amount unless you pay for the subscription), and fail the challenge.

Nice format. The app is missing the ability to test out of units that the learner already has a good grasp of. It could be my phone settings, but it seems like the editor aggressively selects text when I try to place the text cursor, specifically if nothing in the text editor window had already been selected. It takes 3-4 taps to get the cursor where I want it to go. Heaven help you if you are trying to add a line below the top line. Gets frustrating after a while.

Mimo is really cool. I never thought about HTML before, but since the website I post my fanfiction on uses HTML, I thought it'd be cool to learn. I do wish there were more practice levels in-between the regular levels, so it'd help you memorize and put into action what you learn better. The only issue I've had so far, is that when my internet cut out, it didn't tell me. And when I finished the level, it said I only got one answer correct, when it was supposed to be perfect. But that's about it.

I'm starting Python with zero exp. The course starts at a very basic level and gradually adds more as you go without you feeling overloaded with information. The explanations of how things work and why they are used is helpful. As a neuro-divergent person the short lessons work well too. The only 'negative' is that you have to upgrade to do the projects. Not a big issue because you can still learn a lot for free but still a bummer. Upgrade is affordable though.

So let me start by saying that out of all the coding tutorial apps I've tried this is the best one. That being said, there are a few glitches that I'd very much like to be sorted out. For one, when in lessons the cursor likes to randomly jump to the beginning of the first line, which is REALLY annoying. Secondly, the app seems to struggle to sync with the desktop version which sucks cause I paid for that. Lastly, you can only check coins and leaderboard on the mobile app =[ still, great app

Pretty buggy, which doesn't instill confidence in teaching to code when you have issues that prevent you from finishing lessons at times. This wouldn't be the worst in some cases, but if you are going the free route, this means the coins you've earned can be wasted restoring near the end of a lesson and still force you to leave the app and restart the lesson. (Advice, don't pay for hearts if you run out, just close the app and start fresh later.)

I had this app for quite some time and have watched it go through several changes over the years. Content being exchanged with better curriculum, more interactivity to make learning easier, better roadmaps, and updates to the languages. And now I can't access any of the stuff I used to have access to, even had a paid pro account for a bit (yearly). 90% of content is paywalled. So Im leaving this one-star review to reflect my disappointment, as I feel like you forgot your original intent.Helping

literally have emails upon emails trying to get them to fix it a while ago and I mean a long time ago never got my issue fixed even though I paid for the lifetime pro membership. so I'm stuck with an app I can't use on my iPad and on my mobile device no one ever got back to me. I sent screenshots. I sent the information of the two devices that I had and all the other filler information they asked for and I basically just got ghosted and looks like they deleted my previous review from may🤨

Updated review: DON'T PAY FOR PRO! I upgraded to Pro (paid subscription beyond free trial). I finished the Python course and started the Python Developer course. It instructed me that I need to use the website to continue. I logged on and found out that I can't continue unless I upgrade to a more expensive plan. I will get everything out of this app that I've already paid for, but have already canceled the resubscription and will delete after I finish the basic courses (since I paid already).

I was shown an offer for the yearly subscription at a discount, which I thought was great because at this point I was under the impression that there was only one tier. After purchasing, I was then made aware that there was another WAY more expensive tier and that was the only method of having access to the full courses which meant that the subscription tier I got was worthless. Their FAQ says to go through Google for refunds but I'm basically fighting to get my money back at this point.

Could definitely use more polish. The cursor will often jump to the top of the page while typing, and when selecting where to write, it often highlights the text instead. Even after clicking several times to ensure that you're not highlighting an entire word/element/ section of text, it will sometimes still highlight it and delete it as soon as you start typing. There are other weird, hard to describe things like this too. Editing text is probably the worst part of the app.

Decent app for learning code! That said, the actual practice prompts could use more work. When typing, the cursor tends to jump to the top of the script (and move whatever you were typing there) and for some reason the prompt considers your answer wrong if you add Spaces between tags, even when the browser literally shows your answer is correct and worked perfectly. For example if i typed out "* whatever *" instead of "*whatever*" it labels it as wrong even though both ways work.

Wow, I've used Mimo in the past and it's only gotten better. It is really great for anyone wanting to learn programming. The concepts are easy to understand and the assignments are too. And they have AI to help you if you get stuck, what a great app. Desktop version is available if you upgrade. And then there is Max, all the upgrades plus community and webinars. If you're serious about web development, this product is great. 🤘🏽

Dude, I'd totally give this app five stars if the cursor would chill out. I'd even pay for the max subscription if it stopped messing up my inputs. It's like it's doing it on purpose to make us waste hearts, which is super shady if it's true. For a company that's teaching coding, I'd expect it to work perfectly. I really dig the lessons and how coding is taught, though. Please fix this, 'cause it's a deal breaker for me.

The concept of the app is good. it jumps around a lot, so I feel like I'm not learning as much as I should be. So, I do a lot of the practice/review lessons. The app has us gamble our coins on getting streaks. I keep losing my streak (and my coins) because I do the practice/review units. I'm trying to learn, and cement what I learned, and I get punished, because I didn't just keep pushing forward to overwhelm myself more?! I guess I'm not doing any more of the streak challenges....
