For the most part, I like it a lot and use it mostly for the sleep module. The focus module seems to work okay for my ADD Inattentive Type brain, but haven't used it enough yet to fully decide how helpful it is. I'd like to see nap mode, or an option for custom sleep lengths. I work nights and occasionally need to split my sleep in half so being able to set the sleep time to 4 or 5 good would be very helpful. Keep up the good work and thanks for providing a pretty solid experience!
Reviews for Music for Focus by Brain.fm
← Back to Music for Focus by Brain.fmIt's been a day of use and I've enjoyed it a fair bit but today this weird glitch where the icons for the various states I want haven't appeared but they still register presses happened. I shut the app down and started it up again and it worked perfectly, but it was weird. other than that I am really liking the music and use I'm getting out of it
The music is great. It has been a game changer for me. I was recently diagnosed with adult ADHD, and the focus music helps me. I put it on first thing in the morning, and it helps me get moving and focus. The relax and night music is great. I really sleep better with it. It's the best sleep music I've ever tried. My complaint though is the android app is tough to navigate, it's a bit confusing at times, trying to find your faovite piece. I wish it was set up more like Google Play music or Amazon music, where you can easily find music by genre or artist. I also think the price is a bit high, I do think it's worth it to pay for this app, but think the price point is a little bit more than I'd really want to pay.
love this app!!! this is one of the few apps that I use all the time for years because it works! the music gently guides my wandering mind to focus on the task at hand and puts me into the flow. I once tried to read a (dry) book at a cafe. for the first 20 mins, I was distracted and couldn't even read half a page. then I put on brain.fm and the next thing I know 45 mins flew by and I finished 1/3 of the book! highly recommend the app if you need help with staying focused!!
Price is steep but for focus assistance, it's been helpful. I would like a bit more control around the few background sounds that can be added; the ability to add/remove/adjust on the fly. Additionally, the ability to pick and toggle which neural effect on the fly would be helpful; can currently only chose tracks with them applied and there is no ability to turn them off completely, if so desired.
Brain.fm focus and sleep tracks have changed my life. I stumbled on this app a couple of years ago and have been listening ever since (103 week streak). I listen to the deep sleep tracks nearly every night to help calm my racing brain and it helps more than anything else I've tried. The app itself works well; the desktop version is a bit more user friendly. It's easy to adjust the variety and level of track you want to hear, save your favorite tracks, and navigate between activity types.
It works! I put on noise canceling headphones at work and played the music that fit my concentration and mood. Focused for hours! Update: had bad sleep for a long time. Couldn't focus at work. Used this service. Like RedBull for the brain! I did need to contact support over pricing. They responded quickly and worked out a great deal.
Been using this for years, since shortly after it launched. Use to be more of a 3-star, as it worked, but the music was pretty bad. A few years ago it started getting better to enough of a degree that I could listen to it for long stretches without being distracted by bland music, but lately the music has gotten a LOT better, especially in the classical section, by just working in those binaural beats to classics from Mahler, Sibelius and I think I saw Brahms. Keep it up!
I really like the layout , the music and the science behind it is fascinating and me having a neuro diverse brain was hopeful I had finally found my brain entrainment companion. However the app itself is sluggish and often non responsive on my supported device. I'm really bummed I can't move to a paid subscription based on this frustrating user experience. 😔
Love this app, one little improvment that would be the cherry ontop is that I'm dyselxic so pediorically have to listen to my text to speech while studying. Getting the volumes on both with sliders is tricky, so it would be amazing to have some kind of optional 'quiet' button on the app that doesn't mute it but is a quick quieter (personally set) volume for if you have to listen to something else. Otherwise this app is amazing, I can feel it nudging my brainwaves into focus everytime, thank you!
Great program! I also was mistakenly charged for a Year's subscription after my trial I emailed tech support during Easter weekend, they responded promptly and fixed the mistake. 5 stars in my book will definitely recommend them. Their tech support/ customer service was really really nice. not like a lot of these programs or services that never get back to you
I like the concept, and it worked well for a little while....but I cannot get the app to actually work anymore. The only way I can access any tracks are by opening prior "where you left off". I pay for this app and it completely freezes during session set up now, every single time. If glitches are not improved soon will uninstall and edit review to discourage others from purchasing.
A lot depends on how you use it. Intention seems to make a big difference. When using it with earbuds, I'm able to block out external noise and distractions from my environment which helps me to stay on track. There's a wide variety of soundtracks for every category of use; it takes a bit of sorting to find the ones that works for you; unfortunately, most of them don't work for me but I do circle back to my favorites quite a bit. Genre selection can be frustrating for certain categories though.
the app has never been perfect. it's always had at least one problem. previous it was stopping randomly. I'd wake up in the night and it would be off - no evidence of it ever being in (even on infinite play). now the damn thing can't be switched off! I try and stop it of a morning, but nope. it keeps going! (I am a premium holder from pretty much day dot).
I honestly think this app is great. Each year they add new tracks, so its good to let it play randomly and find ones you like and then favorite them for use during a real work session when you want to use tracks you know already work. I also use the app to fall asleep or fall back asleep at night. There is only one song that works for me for this purpose though. Listening to it every night does not both me though and it does work.
Frustrating. This app has always had issues. It just stops 14 minutes after I start it. It WILL NOT stay in 'infinite' mode. It's like it hates to play. Edit: I'm looking at other apps. This one just will not play through the night. You have trouble starting it, then it stops at some time during the night. After 4 years, I give up. Contacting them is no help: they got me to a point where I had a workaround, & they were like 'awesome'.. um, not so much. It's too bad; I sleep well with it.
I loved this app, but it died. It's expensive, but it was worth it when it worked. I used it to sleep for 3 years, maybe more. It was amazing. Now it crashes constantly, doesn't work in airplane mode or online, and totally freezes so I can't just restart. I have to close everything out and reboot. I gave the developer all the info I could and spent 3 weeks troubleshooting nightly. I can't experiment with my sleep anymore. I miss it, but I've had to move on.
I really enjoyed the free trial and it's got tons of options and different categories, but I could not find a way to change my music genre. I loved the ADHD option but there are different forms of ADHD and with it turned on it could focus for 30mins and then it got a hit over hearing for me, but with it off it was a bit difficult to concentrate. Maybe that is a me problem or something to look into. Overall I really enjoyed my experience.
Update: After several weeks of using it consistently, I really like it a lot. It doesn't replace music, obviously, and it's not meant to, but you find tracks that you also enjoy musically, in addition to the neural effects, which are subtle and, I think, cumulative (so use it consistently for a period of time), but ultimately pretty profound. I really like it and it helps a lot not just with focus but mood, too. Parents, give this to your kids who struggle with ADD, depression, etc.
Updating review as of 10/2/2025. The music is great at helping me stay on track, as well as for meditation. Previously, I had an issue where the app would continuously play the same "recommended" songs if I didn't go out of my way to favorite or thumb down them. But now, the music is way more shuffled when I'm not selecting favorite tracks, and will even play previously favorited tracks! Excellent app.
