Have used NMP since 2016...maybe 2015?! Probably 2016. Anyway. While the UX is bland, dated, etc. the main reason for the 5 stars is the sound its able to push to my dac > cans > ears. It's a music app first and anything after can be forgiven. It's able to play all my lossless tunes without compromise allowing me to get lost in the music that has helped me get through difficulty and has enhanced my life so far. Btw, who stares at the app while going through their sonic journey????
Reviews for Neutron Music Player
← Back to Neutron Music Playerused to be amazing, especially for its eq. easy to use, and in combination with rew i'm able to basically import the profiles into neutron. the app always asks for permission to use the dac (usb c to 3.5mm adapter i use), but that's fine. i hate that recently it doesn't play music, yet shows it's playing. it simply doesn't output music. only works if i have the app open, then unplug and replug my adapter. lastly the volume control. the absolute lowest, at 1%, is way too loud. not linear too..
I will start by saying I love this app. I use a Jam Box in my bathroom when I shower, I have a stereo in my "man cave" and then my car stereo. They all need different tuning to sound their best and this app makes that possible. The part I dont like is that there are so many options and settings in this that confuse the hell out of me beyond the EQ/System settings. Having more info within settings on what they are and why/when you would use them would be amazing. File management needs help too.
Best music player if you like to tweak your audio in various ways (EQ, crossfeed, etc.). One of the worst if you like pretty or intuitive UIs. Would be 5 stars with a little more work on the usability (i.e., easier playlist management, EQ preset switching without having to navigate through 3 menus, and stuff like that).
Overall, a very nice Media Player. Developer helps out when issues arise. I haven't tried or installed any other media players; I'm loyal to Neutron. I wish there were certain features, but what's there seems sufficient for the price paid. Very grateful that the Developer promptly responds when there's app issues. I'd be skeptical of media players other than Neutron. This 1 seems very decent, in conjunction with a bass booster app from Indonesia, specifically for Android.
(would give 5 stars is there was an option to edit ID3 tags) The only audio player I'll use and at the same time... Neutron is the absolute best player available on a mobile device but I'll never update through the play store ever again. If you have your music stored on an SD card and not at least above average experience, this is not for you. If you're chasing the best quality available for HD audio and willing to accept some aggregation, worth it.
Despite the interface which definitely takes some time to get used to, this is arguably the most complete and best-sounding audiophile player on Android. A set of DSPs including parametric EQ (up to 60 bands!) and even AutoEq presets make for a very customizable sound. Also the trial period is much longer than competition, so you can definitely decide whether the app suits you. Nice spectrum analyzer too, I love watching it while listening.
This is one of the few apps I've purchased, it's excellent to have this level of control over media. I've run into issues with the app's validation - when I have limited cellular connectivity the app notifies me that my evaluation period is over, and shuts down, even though I've purchased it. I've since moved away from poor coverage areas, so this isn't a big deal anymore. It's still the best media player that I've found.
I have to alter my review to 1 star here. This change is being made because the UI issues in this program were never fixed. I'm using the same phone and to this day in November 2021 the app still cannot reliably read from storage on an Android device and show the music library correctly. Always missing entries or double entries. Some tracks show up 10 times in the same list. No more excuses, this is trash. Not worth the effort or price.
After using this app now for 2 yrs+, Ive come to the conclusion it may be time to move on. This "audiophile grade" media player is basically worthless handling playlists, managing its own media library, and most annoying feature of all is its lack of id3 tag reading. I try to keep my mp3's tags complete. And when I can't sort my library by artist, album, or title because the app can't display tags correctly, that's a problem. There are no facilities for adding/editing tags, either. Save your $
It was working well at first. Now it cannot play album tracks in the right order. The ID3 tags are correct. Other apps on my phone play the tracks in the right order. Update: I emailed the developer and explain the problems that were occurring. He responded within a couple hours and help me fix the issues. I highly recommended this app!
Best sound, plays opus. I like the ability to manually choose the folders to include in the library. So many players will automatically pick up any mp3 file anywhere in the file system, with no way to undo that. Neutron is a little more complicated to use, but worth it. Keep up the good work!
This is an edited review. I'd give it 6 stars if I could. The audiophile processing is amazing! Other apps have crossfeed, not as natural sounding as Neutron. If your device has a hi-fi DAC chip, you're in for a treat! Best recommendation if you're thinking about this app, have some good/high end ear phones, preferably none that "color" the extra bass or treble. Preferably a flat response.
This has been my favorite music playing app. for a long time. I just updated the app. and I had many, if not all of the recent issues that others are having. However, all I did to fix the problem was that I went into settings, forced stop, uninstalled and then reinstalled the app.. After doing that the app. works as it should. Hopefully this helps others with the same issues.
Audiophile quality, but user experience and ui need work. It will take some time to get used to it. The average user will probably prefer poweramp or blackplayer. I really wish it had tile view for albums, as well as sorting options to sort albums by artist or date added to library. It would also be nice if it could monitor library for new files without having to manually tell it to. On the plus side, it has excellent external dac support and gapless seems flawless.
Amazing! I have used various music players for many years, and I understand technology keeps getting better and more fascinating as the years move on, but this player gives the user so much control over the music sound on your mobile device it is no doubt one of the most useful and advanced players for mobile devices I have ever used! Especially for my Android device. To appreciated this app and its power you may need to have a bit of sound education to get the total power it offers, but it is still easy to use for the novice sound editing user. With that being said, I would like to see a quicker way to access the User saved EQ settings, such as a quick drop down list to access any saved EQ Settings. Not a major issue but would be more convenient and fluid for changing the EQ when needed. I love the UPnP/DLNA, it works very well with my jriver Playlists and files on my desktop PC. Quite frankly, this is what i was looking for in an app like this and also a good EQ with sound boosting, and Neutron Music Player,Delivered! Thanks very Much, and keep up the excellent work!
This is a great music player with a boatload of settings. That being said, I have music on my phone to listen to playlists and the playlist features are trash. I've wasted enought time trying to transfer playlists and get the player to read them. Unless you feel like editing every file location of the songs on the playlist by opening the m3u file on your PC in notepad, I strongly recommend staying away. It should also be noted that this problem has been around for over 3 years (check their website forum) so don't hope for a solution anytime soon.
Great sound, horrible UX, and, apparently, no interest in improving it. Some settings don't work correctly. On my tablet, it automatically opens and plays as soon as my Bt earbuds connect, which is disabled, across all connections, in the settings. This is very annoying. My earbuds are paired to multiple devices. I don't need music from another device, when making a call from my phone. Also, while Neutron will play m4a files, it doesn't add them to its library. Please fix.
Great sound, terrible organization... I want to love this player very badly. No other player has as many customization features and really allows every track to breathe musically. However, it is exceedingly difficult to navigate one's library, and I have no idea why. Search functions simply do not work. I can't locate any of the music I'm looking for. This makes it incredibly useless. Please fix this, and you have the best music app out there!!
Absolutely the best music player ever, period! PS: It's been more than a week since Neutron stop recognizing lots of my music. Now half of my albums are missing from the player. I had to download another player to listen to my music. I tried everything (empty the library, re scanning again, etc) with the same results. Is frustrating, since i've been using this app for 10 years just because it used to be the very best. Hope someone help me with this issue...
