Getting the "ride detected" notification. Trying to mute that specific notification, the category that controls this is now "Location Updates." You used to have a separate category for ride detection. Why would I want to disable those notifications? Location alerts constantly fail. Wife and I rarely get a notification when we leave home or work. You keep telling me to email you for support and then tell me in an email to call. No. I also get rid detected while my phone is sitting on a table.

I use this to help keep up with my elderly parents. It worked fine at first. It doesn't keep up with their location unless they open the app on their phone every day and every time I need to see where they may be. It's kind of worthless in that sense. Hopefully, they never need to use it in an accident. We have full OnStar packages in both cars, but this helps me when they are out of it.
My 2011 Chevy Suburban used to be supported by OnStar. However, they changed their options and I lost that service. OnStar Guardian APP was offered. This APP worked great for a while. Now, the location service is not reliable. Family that is in town the APP shows that they are still away. One I really need to track due to health issues. Good thing I have an alternative I do hope there is a viable solution soon or I'm canceling my OnStar service. PLEASE FIX!
Issues! The location feature has never worked properly and the map now does not show my husband moving. I have contacted Onstar numerous times over the past 6 months with no fix. They keep telling me to do the same thing over and over (uninstall and reinstall, check permissions) which doesn't fix it. The customer service is atrocious. We keep going around in circles with no solution. To the response below, I have the updated app and the uninstall, reinstall still doesn't work. I give up!
I added a family member and I can locate them and sometimes the app will actually follow their movements down the street. That seems to be an intermittent feature. I cannot seem to set up location alerts or use any of the other advertised features. I have not attempted any roadside or emergency service, but I don't have a lot of confidence those would work.
The app is itself isn't too bad, but it drives me NUTS that I HAVE to have Notifications Allowed in order to even open the app, when most of the time all I (rarely) have to do is take a glance at where my mom is. I get more notifications saying "Onstar service is not available" than any other notifications, BUT I CAN'T TURN OFF NOTIFICATIONS. Please give us the option to turn off notifications.
I just wanted to cancel the subscription, and thats it. You can't do that from the app. You have to call them to cancel. That essentially means, they will play passing the parcel game with you between numerous departments. Waste your time and frustrate you so much that you finally hang up the call agitated without accomplishing the cancelation. And the service you get for the price is available with your insurce 1/3rd of the cost
No one should have to call a 1-800 number to cancel their service because a business is forcing them into an additional $5 a month to cover the costs of a mobile app (this one) that they've never downloaded. Make the app require agree to a $5 reoccurring purchase from Play Store if you want that money so badly--do not automatically add it to my plan. tl;dr being charged automatically for this app (which I never installed until now so I could leave this review) is the reason I just canceled my entire OnStar plan.
"We are experiencing technical difficulties completing your request, please try again (500)" I get this error message every time I attempt to register for the 3 month 1 plus 2 sample of the onstar service and get to the page where I complete my address. This error message comes up every time. I have tried restarting my phone...didn't help. I reinstalled the app at GM's suggestion. That didn't help either. It still hangs after entering my address.
I have had OnStar for many years and they decide to raise my rates 20% for an app I didn't ask for and doesn't appear to work well. Why would I add this app to my family's phones when it is problematic on mine. Battery hog too! I guess it's time to reconsider the value of OnStar overall. A 20% price hike in economically challenging times is not just poor product planning, it's a customer service nightmare!!
