This is probably the first android beatmaker app I've used that I really enjoy. The UI is incredibly important intuitive, and most importantly unobtrusive so you can get to beatmaking as soon as you load it up. Its definitely limited but I can see already the possibilities for live recording and quick modulation features, similar to what you can do an an OP-Z. Overall happy with this and excited to see future updates!
Reviews for Polaris - Pocket Music Maker
← Back to Polaris - Pocket Music MakerLove it. The UI is easy to learn and use. It may not have the editing power of a PC DAW, but for android it's pretty good. The ability to import samples is wonderful and it even has a synthesizer. Good product, great job! 👍
This is a nice clean app but also rather simple (which isn't a bad thing). It's very intuitive and fun to use. I'd like to see some more features, such as more tracks available, maybe an audio and possibly even a midi export function... Keep it up. 👍
I love seeing more music production apps come to android. Easy to learn and fun tonplay with. Its pretty simple and limited. Hopefully the developers continue to work on it. An export function and ability to sequence longer pieces of music, maybe some step probability would make it worth 7 stars.
It's basic and is missing some key features, but the UI is good and it sounds pretty decent. The ability to have multiple patterns per project, 8 tracks instead of 6, Eq/filtering for the delay and reverb, and a master compressor would all be great.
I really like this app! No doubt it is limited in its capabilities. And yet, I manage to create creative and unforeseen loops every time I open it up. Plus, it's not annoying users with in-app purchase dialogs and let's you actually use your own samples. Kudos to the dev!
It's a really nice app. It has the basic functions of a sampler/groovebox type thing and it's intuitive to get going with. The things it does, it does well. I've had a lot of fun messing about with it. Adding options for swing tempo and exporting audio would be great.
Thank you! This is the best and fastest sequencing app on android. I can get ideas down to complete loops in 10min or less. It's almost perfect for me. Here are a few features I'd love to see implemented: 1) A 4th tab at the top for patterns. And pattern chaining. 2) pattern length adjustment 3) sample recording 4) a few more tracks. Thank you!
Easy to use, sounds great, love the per bar sequencing triggers. Audio export added so that's good. just needs a few more channels to play with and maybe sequences up to 128 steps and this will be a seriously powerful little thing
Awesome workflow. Like really the way it should be, for me. If you add a couple features please add a way to export tracks or render to stereo. And a simple swing knob for each track. I would gladly pay for added features. You have a killer app in the way the step sequencer is laid out. Simple is better
Great app with some awesome stuff going for it but a bit limited right now. I'd love to see swing, multiple patterns w/ chaining and maybe some more ability to edit samples added in future updates. Then I think it might become my go to for music making on the go.
I was debating on whether to give it to three or four stars for now because I feel it is missing two important things but I gave it 4 because what it does, it does well. The main missing one is export loop. The second is extra sequences to toggle. Even just 4 would be good enough to flesh out a simple song foundation without getting too complex which I understand is the goal here.
Great app, making beat making very accessible and affordable. One piece of feedback on UX is the mute. I feel like muting could simply just be a long hold instead of both a long hold and a confirmation click. Otherwise, I do enjoy the color palette and how minimalist everything looks and feels. Looking forward to when beats can be exportable into proper music editors (for song creation).
I love this app. Sleeper beatmaking weapon here. Interface is simple and easy to use. The audio engine is great. I am consistently impressed by the quality of sound I get from it. While limited, it does what it does very well. It's a one-bar loop, just like old drum machines such as the TR-808. You can record and export your loops. I import my Polaris loops into Koala and Sunvox. Polaris provides a crucial feature that Koala lacks - velocity and envelope control of filter freq.
Honestly, it's one of the best music production apps I've used. It's easy enough for a noob like myself to get the hang of it quickly. It has a sampler and a synth engine. I also love how easy it is to import new samples. All these features for that price is insane. Its a very good alternative for the PO-33 devices.
really enjoying this app, it's simple enough to be accessible (my 10 year old was able to make some decent sounding loops and had a lot of fun doing so) but deep enough to allow you to get creative. the synth is a nice addition. only constructive criticism I have so far is that it'd be nice to be able to organise the samples in to groups or folders to make it easier to find what you're looking for, and that it eats the battery if my pixel 9 like nothing else!
This is absolutely great. I was able to make a track in minutes. You really have put a lot of thought into the workflow for mobile devices and this is much appreciated - and often forgotten in other apps. Great features can be simply ruined if it's tedious to use and this has a great flow. I could find everything right away. And it sounds great! All I'm missing is a pattern editor for the individual sequences. The live recording is cool but it would be nice to do more extensive work. Thankyou!
It's incredibly easy to dive in, but able to create surprisingly complex rhythms once you get the hang of step triggers and modulations. It's certainly not an all-in-one music creation package, nor is it trying to be, but it is a great way to let your creativity flow and generate loops without getting distracted by a hundred different options. Edit: you can now export audio, which was my main complaint earlier, though it would be nice if you could do it as stems.
Super easy to lay down ideas. Works great, no drops of any kind. The sound engine in particular is amazing. Use with headphones for best results. Import of files is fantastic. ( If on android go to the dcim file and you'll find your imports. ). Would love more tracks as well as recording to individual steps for more variation. Otherwise this is fantastic.
If you want to crank out beat patterns, then this is your app. Has basic filtering and envelopes. There is even modulation but at the very core it is a sequencer. It has a synth engine but it is very limited. You can change the pitch of a note and even modulate is so i guess you can make melodies but it is not easy work like midi for example. I gave it 3 stars because I expected it to be a music workstation but it isnt a fully fledged DAW. I would call this a beat machine. And it does that well.
