I wrote the review below when I was having problems with the app. Those problems are resolved. Example problems remain. This used to be a very good app. I have been using it since 2018. That is why I moved to Premium. Recently it is terrible. Freezes frequently and gives you the message to "wait or close app." I am a native english speaker learning french. The english translations are not as accurate as they were previously. I now wonder if the french translations are also inaccurate.
Reviews for Reverso Translate and Learn
← Back to Reverso Translate and LearnI've noticed that the Reverso app often provides translations that are inaccurate and, at times, completely nonsensical. It seems like no one is monitoring or proofreading the translations provided, which leads to frequent ridiculous mistakes. While the app might work for very basic phrases, I strongly advise users to double-check any complex or idiomatic expressions elsewhere to avoid being misled.
Great app. It gives so many different examples when searching for a word or a phrase, so you can actually see how it is being used in a sentence. Also in Conjugation was added pronunciation which is very helpful for learning French. Wish option of displaying and listening to added personal phrases in Phrasebook was working better. It works fine with phrases taken from the search, but not so well with personal sentences.
UPDATED REVIEW: All is well. App is back to its usual glorious self. I love the variety of real-life variants it gives for most phrases. (Of course, I don't know how grammically correct, widely understood, or realistic all of them are.) OLD REVIEW: What Happened? Doesn't Work Anymore. Used to work great. Now with new phone (S10E), it constantly says internet connection not working. But my connection is working for all other apps. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Still doesn't work.
Using this for Polish . Has it's pros and cons, but for the free part I'd say definitely 5 stars. Cons are that sometimes sentences are nonsense or close to it. In the worst cases the polish and English don't even match up. Pros you get word in context, and then have a study mechanism to review words later on, which is super helpful. A worthy resource to supplement any learner.
This would be a 5 star rating, except that in the learning mode there are suddenly ads every three or four words. Sometimes they pop up in the middle of speaking exercises, which is rather irritating. I understand the need for ad revenue, but it seems like it could be done in a manner that doesn't interfere with the learning process. Edit: The latest update has definitely improved this app. While there are ads, they no longer interrupt the learning experience. Good app!
Straight word for word translations in dictionaries don't always get context, slang, or regional particulars. I grew up speaking French, but lost some more unique vocabulary as an adult. This app is extraordinarily helpful in reminding me (or teaching me) translations, especially as I teach my son French and come across things that I can't remember the word for the life of me. (Today's searches include moose and candy cane.) This is by far the best translation app I've found.
I signed up for the trial, but the app didn't upgrade my account. It just says that I already own that in-app purchase, and continues on with the free features/offering the premium upgrade. I also get an error that the Reverso Online Context server cannot be reached. I tried reinstalling, but that didn't work. As it is not usable, I can't give it more than one star, and will cancel my subscription.
It's really unique. You may enjoy multiple choices. For example, when learning french you're offered mutiple instances of your word in texts with its parallel translation. Moreover, you are given the pronunciation, the conjugation, and english synonym. Reverso is the best app for learning languages in context. I've used any other apps and its the best for me so far. I'm really grateful to its developers. You may also enjoy its other apps like reverso synonym. Thanks a lot
Wonderful translation app! It shows multiple translations to better define context, even slang! Languages not in the Latin alphabet ARE transliterated. You just have to tap the translation you want. Audio is also provided. This app has been very helpful in my pursuit of mastering Italian. Definitely give this app a try. You have nothing to lose and a world to gain!
This app is fantastic! I love the real world examples, the synonyms, the conjugations, the pronunciations, the suggestions, the ease of going from one language to another...when looking up a word, I like to see the Spanish and then the French. This is so easy with this app! I could continue, but I'll end this by saying I'll be using this app so much that I am paying for the premium edition.
I prefer using Reverso for quick translations that I need in the moment over any other translator. I use it mainly for English, French, and Spanish translations. One thing I like about the app is it gives you multiple options for what the word could mean, since sometimes there isn't one equivalent. For example, it said "le dommage" in French meant "injury," or "damage" plus other meanings to help you better understand the scope of the word.
Imperfect, but definitely the most useful language ap. Despite many errors, including not infrequently rather odd mistranslations in context examples, I still give it a 5 because it can be used intelligently and read "between the lines". These comments are for the non-expanded version, mainly German and French (/English), although I consult it in several other languages as well.
It is very useful yet frustrating to use. 1) It frequently randomly resets to Spanish/French (why?) and doesn't let me switch back to Spanish/English; 2) It doesn't handle minor spelling mistakes at all; 3) It is easy to write a long phrase then accidentally press the voice button when you mean enter, and it resets/clears all your typing work; 4) ai translations are frequently wrong. When it works the phrase translations are great.
I really love the app. The pronunciation is far superior to Google Translate in most cases (for Spanish and Japanese at least). When practicing flash cards it would be nice if the text prompt did not disappear when holding the record button. As it is now my memory is being tested more than my ability to properly pronounce words. What's worse, if you mess up, the text doesn't return to the screen making it impossible to know what to say.
Poor value for money. Even with a subscription, you can't hear the pronunciation of an entire paragraph, unlike other apps. There is no way to edit your phrasebook to correct errors or enter your own content. Many of the translations are full of errors, and reporting these seems to be a waste of time. I have seen little or no improvement in years. Also, the developer abandoned the Lexibase software it previously sold for PCs, leaving customers in the lurch with draconian activation requirements.
This app is very good but not all of the translations are correct, most are but if you are putting in custom input, take it with a grain of salt. Overall very good app to help you learn a language. One thing is, it tells you to simply sign up to see more examples, and when you sign up it tells you to subscribe(pay money) to see more examples. Still a great app though.
Essential tool for learning a new language. I use it every day. It does not have virtual flash cards, but it does allow you to create a list of favorites to review whenever you have a few minutes, and will give you the pronunciation. This is important, and flash card apps usually won'r do that. I paid the very small fee for the Premium version; it is well worth it. If I see a word I don't know online, I just select the word, and a box opens to give me the translation and pronunciation.
The language aspect is great. My favorite, especially the examples of context. App support is atrocious. I have a premium account and am being told I'm "inactive;" I need to activate my account. But there's no prompt to activate the account or way to do it from the menu. Try to re-register and it says the username already exists. That's just one of many problems over the years. Between the app freezing or crashing and never getting a reply from admin... Yeah. 2/5 is all I can give.
I don't trust Reverso. I used to pay a modest yearly subscription for this app and I recommended it to many people. In that regards, it deserved 5 stars. When Reverso was overhauled, all my previous data was lost and the monthly subscription became about as much as I paid in year, meaning it would cost me over 10 times what I used to pay, which is way too much for the amount of time I use Reverso. Besides, I don't trust that they won't throw away my data again.
