Best macro tracking app I've tried this far! There's a bit of a learning curve when you first use it, but once you get the hang of it - easy peasy. It has convenient features like moving macros between meals, saving/loading food combinations, calculating your macros for you, and it makes meal planning and hitting my macros much easier than when I was trying to do it all manually. Absolutely love it and see myself using it for a very long time. Highly recommend. A++
Reviews for RP Diet Coach & Planner
← Back to RP Diet Coach & PlannerGreat app! It's expensive, but I have seen great results. It without be nice to have a better user experience, such as a web app, a way to look and modify diets, a way to enter custom meals ingredient by ingredient, etc. At the end, the results speak for themselves. It is definitely worth the money.
App is well built but is difficult to understand how to use it properly without additional knowledge on how to track macros. Hard to use compared with traditional meal/calorie tracking apps. I'm sure it's easier for someone that's more familiar and comfortable with this type of diet tracking. A video or two, or at least links to resources that explain how to create meals that pair well with this app would make this so much better. Telling me to drink 9/10ths of a shake is...unhelpful.
The app is great! My only critique would be that the food library is a bit lacking and I often have to manually create foods that don't scan. Also, it would be great if there was a way to see minerals and micronutrients. I just finished watching a video Dr Mike made about a TIA mini cut where he talks about adjusting sodium intake towards the end. Well, you ain't doing that with your app Mike. Haha. Otherwise it's pretty great.
Really genuinely helpful if you're trying to stick to a diet. That being said, it continues to be a little clunky when trying to enter food. The way it functions is built around pre-planning your level of activity and meals at least a week in advance. It can be really frustrating to add in anything random. God forbid I get inspired to go on a walk or it'll erase all my meals earlier than 8pm. It also always really wants me to eat at 11:30pm. All in all great but you have to be organized.
Pros: does macro calculations for you and timing of meals, especially use full when you need to increase macros on workout days. Does a good job of plotting weight changes Cons: dieting is already very hard and this app can add stressors on top of it. This app is clunky, not very intuitive, the barcode scanner doesn't work immediately, it erases your food log inputs if you try to put them in ahead of time. If they fix these things it could really be a great app
Makes tracking macros easy. Especially useful for meal prepping. A $10.00 digital food scale that has ounces and grams is handy to use with this app. I was surprised by how many bar-coded foods were in the database. I'm using this to lose weight and so far I've met my goals. I recommend a Renpho body comp scale (like $22) to track the progression. I highly recommend this app for weight loss. You just have to bring the effort.
RP HYPERTROPHY is a game changer! now, I can't say the same about RP DIET. Yes, it is good and has things that other apps doesn't have, such as the time of each meal, reminders and goals depending on what your goal is. But where it falls behind is in the small food database. For example, I try 6 different foods and the app does not recognize them. don't like that it only gives you proteins, fats and carbs, not calories or nutrient and its more complicated than other free apps
Super helpful app for getting into tracking your macros and weight loss. I was a novice at this process before and feel like I have a foundation to work with moving forward. The app is a little rigid for macros when you're trying to lose weight, however I think that's because it's geared more towards those actually trying to stay disciplined for bodybuilding competitions or other athletic individuals. I got my use out of it, and I may go back if I need to, but it has been enormously helpful.
not easy to add foods. not easy or impossible to add snacks. not user friendly meaning it's tough to navigate. developers should check My Fitness Pal as a model. The food data it does contain is impressive. not sure why the diet app is separate from the workout app other than it being more profitable to have two apps instead of one. this app is just okay. there are many better ones.
I'm sorry, but I hate the new version of this app. The reason I loved RP was the fact that it made macros so much easier than all the other apps out there. The fact that "fats" counted only fats and carbs, and that "carbs" counted only carbs was a huge win for me. No going back and readjusting an entire meal because I added a carb-based ingredient that had protein in it and messed up my protein total. The ease of navigating is gone too. Now it's just a glorified version of My Fitness Pal. ☹️
New update made the app significantly worse for the purpose I was using it for but I tried to use it since I, unfortunately, paid for a year upfront. I am not able to use the app though because it constantly freezes and/or crashes on me while trying to build out a meal. I have been unable to use the app because of this so I guess it's time to move on and take the hit of the couple months I have left in my subscription.
I was a faithful user of this app for several years and had tremendous success with weight loss using it. However the new update is kind of a nightmare. It's extremely difficult to manipulate food amounts to hit target macros. The old app allowed you to add your macros individually but the new one combines everything which is confusing. I gave the new app a shot for 2 weeks but decided it's not worth the frustrations. I'll probably not be renewing and deleting the app all together :/
This app was great, until this terrible unannounced update. The UI is much worse, and things like meal check-ins are more difficult to complete. Meals in my current diet had foods deleted in the update, seemingly because they updated their food database. When going to redo things, it became clear that macro values for a lot of foods were either incorrect before, or they're incorrect now - using the same values I had set before the update put my calories and macros way off. Will not be renewing.
The app recently went through a massive overhaul, and the entire user interface was changed. It used to be very intuitive. I never missed a weight in with the old interface, but with the new one, I only record 1 a week. Checking in a meal used to be clicking a button. Now it's a drop-down menu and finding the button. I used to use it for every meal, but I find myself reverting to the old meals I made in the old app by memory. I don't know if I'm going to renew this year.
pretty disappointed in the update. I know it can't be perfect, but the update broke fundamental features. for example, adding a workout to my day (I usually add per day instead of configuring a weekly schedule) the app no longer adjusts my meal times or my meal macros. I also haven't been able to get the workout shake to get added, toggling the option has no effect on the macros. adding food and checking in a meal ate even more annoying than it used to be.
used and loved the app for 4-5 years. I absolutely hate the new update. I just tried setting up next week, after entering all my info, it tell me the calories don't match and I need to make adjustments. I was not counting calories, just macros. I don't mind counting the calories if it is going to help, but how am I supposed to know how many calories I am supposed to ingest next week?
the app was good! able to track food, progress and add foods from stores. now there's an update and it sucks!!! terrible visuals, not intuitive, switched from macro based tracking to calorie based tracking, foods don't add up right on sum of totals, checking in on meals is wonky, and it won't let you progress a week unless you put you were exactly at your planned calories! dude, why did you make it terrible! absolutely going to cancel my subscription
Had this app for 4 years and loved it, it made counting macros easy and always helped reach my goals. The updated version is terrible. The same exact foods are way off from the original app and the ability to match the macros and calories are nearly impossible. Either it was inaccurate initially or more likely the update made it so. Canceled subscription and switched to macro factor which is great!!
I don't know what's going on here, but this thing barely works as a tracker/log; macros and calories are inaccurate for every food I tried, they don't add up within meals let alone over a day, and it's cumbersome to get your daily targets to adjust given what you actually ate for no real reason. All of this makes the more advanced features we all came here for, like automatic calorie adjustment to fit goals, very suspect. Definitely use a better app and work out adjustments in a spreadsheet.
