I was struggling to stay motivated and I wasn't getting any faster training on my own. This app changed that for me. The program is always changing the type of runs I do, and it breaks up the traing into manageable chunks that really push me without overwhelming me. The strength and mobility workouts are an incredible compliment to the runs as well. I just keep seeing my stats get better and better, which keeps me motivated to keep it up. I couldn't be happier with this app.
Reviews for Runna: Running Plans & Coach
← Back to Runna: Running Plans & CoachThe update looks cool. I was excited about the calendar but it's completely off. At the top it says Nov 11-16 but the actual dates under say November 4,5,6,7,8. And because of that it's claiming I've missed workouts and my plan is ending this week instead of next week when it was supposed to end. Update. Reached out to customer service and they responded IMMEDIATELY and the problem was resolved. Excellent app, excellent customer service.
New to the app. Trying for free before I subscribe at cost. The workout today was confusing, namely the transition from run to walk and back again. The phrasing, in my opinion, should be "start walk" or "start run" each time, but they don't. Instead they announce upcoming laps. Hard to explain, but definitely dislike it. I thought after two repeats I understood but I somehow still misunderstood and ended up walking on a run lap. Tried to pause to catch up and it totally jacked the announcements.
Deleted it almost immediately because all I wanted was an app that would let me set a pace that I wanted to run and have an audio cue if I dropped below that. Unfortunately the app only really has functionality to set up a weeks-long training plan. Also asks some personal info that it DOES NOT need, like your birthday. The app's excuse is "we need to know how old you are to reduce the chance of injury" - ok, fair enough, but why the DATE. "Age" in increments of 5 should more than suffice.
Runna removes so much stress around training and even makes it fun. App design is absolutely fantastic and it syncs well with Garmin & Strava (for bragging rights ✌️) Training plans are personalized to the time & energy you can afford. Strength training for runners is a HUGE plus. Great videos & descriptions for each exercise for optimal form, and I love that I can track reps directly. Would love more flexibility in customizing plans around injury / how you're feeling (like with human coaches).
The idea of the app is great and I do like the plans and the option to add in strength training. However, I have to uninstall and reinstall it to stop/end runs. I had the app for about 3 weeks and the stress from not being able to end a workout made me dread running more than the injury that made me quit running years ago. It would be a 5/5 if that function worked.
Consistent technical issues regarding pace and distance. Runs end prematurely due to the app deciding to double your estimated pace and estimated distance traveled halfway through the workout despite maintaining a steady pace on a treadmill. It's nice when it works as intended, but rather annoying when it just ends your long runs early.
7/3 Update: they've done it again! If I could give zero stars I would. they went ahead and did another update didn't think about Android. told me to delete the app and I did and it didn't fix it and now I have to set up all of my customizations again. this is absurd. I am just waiting for another app to be released that can compete with this one. or give up all together because it's just not worth it. Don't download if you have an Android. Prior Update, THEY HATE ANDROID USERS.
I'm a Premium subscriber and have been using similar apps for several years and I don't think it's worth it for 2 big reasons for me. First, the plans barely adapt to my running, they will change pace but not the actual workouts and if I miss workouts nothing changes on the plan. which brings me to my second annoyance, the interface is hard to navigate, some things just don't work and rescheduling a workout takes a lot of work and then I need to go back to Garmin for syncing.
The first week was great- I liked the platform and programming and was excited to find an app for my marathon program. I knew there was a premium version (as most apps do) but didn't realize to use the app at all you pretty much had to pay over $100 a year. ABSOLUTELY NOT for something AI powered. I'd pay maybe $10 but over $100 is crazy talk.
Was great for the first few weeks I used it. I loved different runs in my plan. However, there were a few things that made me upset. The first thing they did not do anything when I marked a vacation and said I wanted easy runs. All they did was keep my longest/hardest runs during that time. The the app duplicated itself on my phone and when I un-installed it amd reinstalled everything was gone. It wouldn't even record a free run.
I do Like the way the app is established, how it shows each data line and compares your previous run. Shows where you ran. Keeping track each mile if you are better or worse on your previous run. keeps track on how you tempo. Very very nice. However the one that confuses me the most is how many miles you ran. On the app it will say I completed 4 miles. But if I retrace my track on Google maps, it will say the distance is only 2.4miles. So I am not sure who is right or who is wrong.
It's okay when it works. Lately, the buttons become unresponsive during a workout. I have to close the app and reopen so I can pause, finish, and save the workout. For whatever reason, this also causes the app to drop HR data, so Strava can't calculate relative effort and/or fitness score. Please fix! There's no way to do a free workout with a target pace, which is annoying. I've been trying to set PRs on Strava best efforts for shorter runs, but you have to do at least 5k to set a pace target.
This app is actually pretty incredible. To have this as I train, it allows me to get the audio cues that I've desired. Nevertheless, there is one glaring problem. Compatibility. If you can expand it to Pixel watch or be better integrated with Strava so that I don't have to record two runs to get the audio cues and then the Strava post workout data (specifically Heart rate), this app would be so much better. Unfortunately, this is such a big deal for me considering the cost at $19.99 a month
Buy it! Just buy it. This app got me back running and I love the added workouts with yoga and Pilates to really make sure even on days I can't run that I can do something. I would love some adjustability with what stats are said during workouts but that's a minor annoyance. Great customer support also, they helped me figure out why it wasn't syncing with strava.
I like the planned runs, even in the free version, but i would not say this app is worth paying for. Its constantly freezing which leads to constant pausing/unpausing of my runs sometimes, and its always miscalculating my distance. My long runs can be off by .25 or more. This is pretty glaring issues for an app that has most of its features locked behind a paywall
Very limited smartwatch integration. It would also be nice if they had a route planning feature for runners so I don't have to pay a separate subscription for Strava. Also, not sure why the app does not stop workouts by default if you stop running for a period of time, you need to toggle that setting first. Now I have a running workout that's insanely off because I forgot to finish my workout before traveling.
3 stars. the good. great app for interval running and presumably for non-treadmil based running. great workout recommendations plan creation is extensive it seems potential opportunities for improvements 1. if you use treadmill, the app doesn't track personal records, confirmed by support. 2. minimal flexibility to add your own laps to a workout. you can add an activity with laps, however the app presumes you already did this workout. it doesn't allow you to program customizable runs
I love the idea of this. A plan that flexes with lifestyle and ability is perfect. I question whether I will actually improve my time; it consistently has me run slower than my current personal best, but time will tell. That said, the app has a hard time with pacing for runners who do walk/run intervals. The final averages are fine, but when you're in the run, it doesn't take walking intervals into account when measuring on/off planned pace.
The app is setup nicely, and the integration with other fitness apps works seamless. the help sections are also well put together. What Id like to see added is a audio prompt letting me know that the workout is half done. I ran out and back and zone out, so for me this is helpful. Second, the audio prompts sound robotic. I'd like to hear this improved, and to have options on the voice type.
