Reviews for Simple Audiobook Player +

← Back to Simple Audiobook Player +

This is the best audiobook app that I've found for Android. It's simple and it works well. It plays .m4b, mp3 and .ogg files. It probably plays more formats but those are the ones that I've used.

Exactly what every application should be. Straightforward, no ads, no BS, and a proper easy-on-the-eyes night mode. It can bookmark the audiobook at any time, recognizes individual chapters in m4b files, instant skips forwards and backwards. Best of all is how cheap it is. I highly recommend it.

I've only paid for two programs in my life, and this is one of them. The player is absolutely perfect. It's the opposite of all modern players that generate lists, even though it's clear that the files in the folder are the only list I need. They scan files for hours, open only the folders they want, and have no bookmarks. This player is a lifesaver. It has what you need, only what you need, and exactly where it needs to be.

Love the options. I really like being able to set the playback speed and being able to set up a default speed. But, I sometimes like to just shut it off, not just pause, and the only way I see is to open up the app and select exit. Is there an easy way to do this? Samsung S7. Correction: Yeap, there is. Sort of. On mine, which I didn't see before, there is a little down arrow, once I touch that the X is visable. Not exactly what I was looking for, but certainly better than before. Thanks

Excellent local file audiobook app. Super clean interface with big easy to use buttons. Have been using the free version for many months. Just upgraded to the paid version which is only $2.50 and totally worth it because it adds variable speed playback and besides it's good to support a quality developer. Only suggestion is to change the icon for the paid version to make it clear which is the free version and which is the paid version on my phone.

I've been using this app for years and have loved it. It's fast and clean, and is far more reliable than the Audible app (which randomly deletes downloaded books and can take several seconds to simply load). The recent update that brought integration with the system playback notification (the box at the top) makes this app even better. I'd buy it again if I could. Slava Ukrayini!

Love this app Simple and it just works, great organization, speed selection. I only have ONE request that would make it a full 5 star app PLEASE give the option to make the ending of the timer be a slow audio fade out with NO BEEP. The beep is very distracting. I use this app a lot before bed or taking a nap listening to audio books and the beep wakes me just as I am drifting off. PLEASE I beg you.

A great utilitarian audiobook player. There was a little bit of a learning curve, but once I got it all figured out I got to say, I love it. I've tried a handful of other audiobook apps and was constantly wanting better functionality while being simple to use. It's not flashy, yet does everything you need. Also, I emailed the app customer service with a functionality question and received an answer in less than an hour.

Whaaaaaaat??? The free version WAS my favorite player for lectures and audiobooks. But I found out that this can play faster than 1x. So... Now this is my new favorite! 😄😄😄 I installed and THIS player picked up where I left off on the free version. Didn't have to do anything extra, everything carried over. The app design is clean, simple user friendly and while it looks like it lacks features that's deceptive because it has almost everything you could need for audiobooks. THANK YOU DEVS!!!

Great app. Would give it 5 stars if more documentation (how to use features and how they operate) was available, even if on the web. If it is available, I sure would like to find it. The delayed pause and automatic timer functions are especially good, they would even be better if I could understand them more. These functions may be unique to this app. I used to have to hack my mp3 players with "RockBox" to get this functionality.

Perfect app to listen to audio books. Easy to navigate and control playback. Just one small bug - every once in a while, after stopping and starting playback using headphones control, audio gets all jaggery, requiring a restart of the app. Just with one specific pair of headphones, thought... I'd also wish that the play time progress would display on the lock screen. Everything else is working exactly as it ought.

It's everything you need to listen to an audiobook. Super simple and easy to use. One problem with it is the UI for finding the audiobook files, and menu systems feel a little clunky. But once you get it pointed to the right place and have your settings set up to how you need it, it just works. It is as simple as it comes with no extra fluff to make it seem better than it is. Highly recommended to audiobook listeners.

Checked out a number of audiobook players. This one is sweet, meets or surpasses all my needs in a player, most excellent app. Proud to pay for the full version, and thanks to the developers for a solid, easy-to-use book player. The equalizer is a nice touch, btw -- adjust vocal timbre to the mood and the story. Lot of apps on my phone that I rarely or never use. This one will stay quite busy.

I've used a lot of audiobook and podcast apps, and this is so much better than any I've ever used. It's minimalism done right. I really don't need the player screen to have the cover photo, and I just absolutely love the ability to change the skip buttons depending on context. It's amazing that the free version of a $2 app can be better than Audible's app, but hey, this definitely is. Worth the $2 just to support the programmer.

I have been using the free version for years and it has always worked great. Recently I've been listening to podcasts and I discovered the magic of 1.5x speed, so when I came back to the Simple Audiobook Player to listen to to some books I discovered this was a pay feature, but was pleasantly surprised to see the full version was only $2 which I was happy to pay and, frankly, is a small price considering how much I've used this app for free over the years. Definitely worth the small fee!

I tried a ton of podcast players, I also use this for music too was looking for a player that can seek -+secs with just a click of the handset and customizable buttons. This player is lightning fast (opening seeking changing tracks everything!) no ads, very lightweight, no frills and meets most of my needs. I didn't necessarily need the paid version but I loved the free version so much had to show some support for great apps that arent full of ads and in-app purchases(rare these days).

Best audio book player I've ever used. In fact, it's only 1 of 3 apps I've ever paid for from the playstore. You can alter skip distance and it has the most intuitive resume for multiple books. Also, great access to the Android file system, including deleting files. No ads either, even in the free version, although the speed up function is totally worth the price.

Update - still absolutely the best. One of those apps that just works, day in day out. It plays audiobooks clearly and accurately, lets you pause them and make bookmarks, doesn't lose your place, and even has a history of other books so you can resume anywhere in your audio book library and listen to multiple books at once. the free version does almost everything I need and had no ads - but I bought the pro version both to support it and because I wanted an equalizer :)

The free version was so good, I bought it even though I didn't need the added functionality. The only new functionality I could wish for is a way to chapterize audiobooks that aren't sectioned. even if it is just to create segments that are X minutes apart. bookmarking helps, but the ability to manually add segments would be so much better.

A great lightweight player packed with functionality. Very flexible in its settings like on adjusting the forward/rewind button times. Great to be able to set the narration speed - most audiobooks seem to be narrated at slow speeds. Love the sleep timer. Can be used for all sorts of audio files, not just ebooks. Dark mode supported. Missing a star because the file manager side of it seems totally illogical until the root folder the books are in can be found Using the paid version - well worth it
