They haven't fixed the gift card feature in 6 months. Old Review: THIS is how you do a restaurant app. Paying for your food and getting points is super easy. They bill you every month for your orders, so you get one lump sum instead of multiple small purchases. Points are gained every time they scan your phone. Mobile ordering needs work, though. They need mobile coupons, too.

They added online ordering, which is great, so theoretically I don't have to wait in the drive thru for 30-45 minutes (yeah, that's what it always is. Even if there's only two cars in front.) I want to be able to add pepper jack cheese to my burger but not an option. Add the ability for 5 star rating
I have entered my card on here twice to order online and it keeps saying oops failed to use card or something like that. This app does me no good if it can't work correctly. UPDATE: One month later and it still will not take my card. But yet I can pull up to the drive-thru and order my food and pay it with the same freaking card and no issues. This app is complete garbage!
You can't order at the kiosks and get points on the app since the kiosks won't give anything to scan or a number to enter on the app. The app wouldn't let me order for pickup and it keeps telling me about a $7.00 minimum order price for delivery when I wasn't even getting it delivered and I was ordering more than 7 dollars worth yet it wouldn't let me proceed to checkout.
The app does not properly use it's location function, and says I am two miles away as I am in the parking lot. You are given the option to have your order started immediately or once you get closer. Regardless of which option you choose, you must still call the restaurant to announce your arrival. Only then will the staff begin preparing your food. The time reflected on app for when I ordered is a full 12 minutes after I placed my order. 30 minutes to get "fast food." Would not recommend.
Pushes, almost forces, you to create an account with promises of free items so they can collect Metadata for advertiser(s) and then doesn't deliver on the free items. Was about to order online while in parking lot for free items and points. The app frustrated me to the point that I preferred to eat somewhere else then go through the drive-thru next to me.
I tried to use the app to place an order instead of going inside. However after 15 minutes of attempting to add a free item from the rewards section I gave up and went in the restaurant. It was not apparent how to add the free item to your order. Turns out you have to add the item, then go through all the remaining steps and on the last screen you can add a reward. Just when you think you've got it, it claims they reward is not applicable to your order with no description. Useless app.
If I could rate it with a minus sign, I would. Previous app balance showed up on a "card" but is unusable because QR code generated isn't recognized at register. User has to scan a barcode on receipt to earn points, but that didn't work. Manual entry of code didn't work. Frustrated customer and cashier. Useless app for paying. Won't dare to try ordering with it. Don't waste time with this app!
This app is buggy, doesn't display your full delivery address so you can confirm they are delivering to the correct address and then the account settings page where your supposed to be able to change your accounts details does nothing, it has no options to make any changes to your account. Do yourself a favor and order from somewhere else. **Update my order was payed for by me and delivered to somebody else**
This used to be a great app, I would get a gift card and upload it onto the app. Ordering was easy, I could just do it through the app and pay with the loaded gift card walk in and pick up my food. Now for some reason they disabled the ability to add gift cards, it says temporarily, but has been like that for quite a while. Hopefully they make it so you can add them again soon, because waiting at my Steak N Shake can be a real pain.
Worst app ever since the update. You used to be able to add your debit and pay with the app. Now you have to pay for a gift card, have them scan a code on your phone for points, and then scan a different code to pay with the gift card. Used to get points for the total you pay. Now only get points for the net amount before tax. Ridiculous and a hassle. I stood at the register for 20 minutes trying to purchase a gift card just so I could pay! Never again.
Updated for 2022. This app is still useless. Every time I try to use it there are numerous issues. Save time and order at the counter and wait 15 minutes for your order then pay there. 5/16/2022: This app is useless. It gives Rewards but you can't use them (free shake). When you attempt to redeem a Reward, it tells you that you can't use it. So you exit to start over, and it tells you that you've used too many rewards and that you have to wait 3 hours. 3 hrs later, same problem.
Had free steak burger for my birthday. Tried to place mobile order, and it only had 1 menu item, weird but I guess it's a bug. It's cool, I'll just go into the store. When I try to open up the coupon "unfortunately you have clicked on too many offers". Can't open for 3 hours! Now I can't use the coupon, ironically this is a new store so it's all large tablet orders anyway. Had to discuss with manager. This seems like an app designed by a contractor staff with poor requirements.
The app rework is great - except, when ordering delivery the app and website both add a hidden charge to your total. I have tested it on different items. Once, it said my total was $3.90 more after I clicked checkout, with no explanation as to where that fee came from. This is after looking at the meal, delivery, tax, and tip charge. When I had 2 items, it added an extra $6.02 to my total. I cannot order delivery from steak and shake until this hidden, unexplained extra charge is fixed.
Ok app, terrible system. App seems to function well, but does not allow you to build a shake or order any of the specially shakes. If you want to cancel or modify an order, you have to call the store, who may or may not answer the phone. This app is especially useless during COVID, as you have to wait through the drive through line to get your food... so you may as well order in the line like normal.
I was told that I could continue to get my reward points from scanning receipts on the app because the scanner didn't work in store. Well, I TRIED! Guess what? NO OPTION ON THE APP TO SCAN RECEIPTS! What the heck!?! This app used to be great and now it's complete TRASH! Fix the scan rewards option on the app so there won't be anymore problems! PLEASE!
It's very disappointing that I am unable to add gift cards to my account anymore because it is "temporary" disabled (for months now). I don't like how I cannot add coupons to my order. Further more, I don't like that there isn't an option to use another form of payment such as cash or gift card in-store and still receive rewards points. Please fix these features. My family and I use to to go every week, sometimes twice a week. Now we go maybe once a month (if you're lucky).
This isn't letting me review my order. I got an email about a deal with a free small milkshake when you order through the app so I thought I'd give it a try, but after adding items to my cart and clicking "Review Order", the page loads and loads and loads and then times out and tells me to check my pick up time and try to place the order later. Tried restarting app, tried clearing app data and cache, neither of those worked.
The redesign is terrible. The old app I could redeem my $5 reward AND pay at the same time (with my credit card). Now there's a lot of screens to get through, rather than the very easy concept of pressing PAY, entering a tip amount, and then have them scan the barcode. Now, I have to go to rewards. Activate the $5. Say how much of the $5 I want to use by typing in the amount...then load a gift card, press the gift card in the pay screen, scan the bar code, then enter a tip. Clunkier. Slower.
It won't allow you to a cancel an order, and has a very choppy "Contact Us" menu (it was just a feedback page??) where I couldn't find how to call a customer support, had to go online to find a "corporate number". It also assumed a restaurant was closed, which is why the app wouldn't let me select the "ASAP" option, and set it for 12 PM instead of AM. Thankfully the lady was very nice and helpful to us (the worker we called to tell her about the mishap). Great workers, horrible app. 🙏😔
