I prefer this app over Ground news. It shares a lot of features and the basic layout with the aforementioned app however there is a hundred times more content available to me as a free user. Great work on an app that is very much needed in this post fairness doctrine world we live in.
Reviews for Straight Arrow News | SAN
← Back to Straight Arrow News | SANIt seems like the best non-bias news I've found. I've been searching for a neutral source, including ground news, but this one seems much better! I've been using it for a couple of weeks now.
Content is fine, as far as I can tell, since I can hardly see it. There is no option to switch to light background with dark text, which us old people can see better.
This is much better than ground news and it's free. it doesn't track what your websites you are looking at to calculate your bias but the interface is fantastic and the news sources are well done.
Finally... News App that displays bias. Listing the articles according to bias while not perfect shows the direction of most articles. BUT ...I've been seeing the SAME unbiased reports for 2 months now...
Very amusing that ads for this news source state that SAN is raising the bar for journalism when fact-checking is so subpar. For example, college graduates earn 86% more than high school graduates. Their source for these wonderful stats is the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities. I am sure these tuition-based colleges have no reason to inflate this figure.
Balanced news reporting made easier to consume by delivering it as audio segments that remind me of the old style TV news segments. Yiu can drill down easily on the sources for more information.
love the content. bug when expanding the video player on android, I have to minimize and expand it again to get it to work
I like a news agency who tries to play it right down the middle. these other agencies have an agenda Straight Arrow does not seem to. overall, I like it.
This is what you've been looking for, for balanced reporting, clear and concise. Explains differing opinions and why it matters. Easy to understand, accurate and trustworthy. We're all looking for the best use of our time online to keep well informed without emotional bias to cloud our understanding of the issue. This is a great resource to do that.
I absolutely love this app for getting my news. It has great coverage of current events with options to read the full story or just get a quick summary. The reporting is excellent, with an emphasis on providing unbiased facts. I highly recommend this app for anyone wanting to keep informed.
I appreciate the way they cover news without a political bias or commentary. I enjoy bias breakdowns showing the way other media outlets are reporting major news and the spin they put on it. I feel this app keeps me informed without polarizing everything and trying to stir panic.
SAN's efforts at balance and neutrality in its reporting is refreshing and laudable at a time when news has been replaced by commentary and advocacy. At times it feels as though I'm getting a drink from a firehouse but it is much preferred over the usual drips and drabs that other media deliver that keep people ignorant and always guessing. Thank you
Beautiful news app! Too bad it doesn't autorotate. I'm not reading everything in portrait mode especially for long periods of time. Update: kudos for a beautiful news app that's almost as pretty as bbc news app! Too bad it doesn't autorotate on PHONES.
Not just a news aggregator, SAN often has a summary of key stories, with a strong attempt to provide an overview from all sides. Additionally, SAN does some amount of investigative reporting. Finally, it is very easy to navigate.
The app is good the stories are very well done and I love the idea of showing the media slant on every story. But I have one gripe every time you watch a video on the app they prompt you at the end to download the app. So if I am watching more than one video on the watch tab every 2 minutes it will prompt you to download the app. It would be an easy fix for them do do and just cut that off for the media player in the app. Overall great way to get news.
Certainly a very welcome idea. Uncertainty on whose funding pulls unbiased strings is gnawing, but it seems legit so far. Two things keeping my review low, easily fixed: First, the reporters seem very young. Not that their work is bad, but it needs honing. One seems to ramble in a very mass-com sophomore fashion. Another, who reads a great many of the articles, has a very... Shatnerian... tone; I honestly thought that he was a bot narrator. Second, the preference toggles do not seem to work.
I signed up for notifications for two things. One says morning daily notification and the other says once a week. I get so many notifications that despite wanting to keep up with the news somewhat I am overwhelmed not by the news but by the sheer amount of notifications.
stories appeared to be comprehensive and at times balanced. the journalists use more clever words to make an opinion known when no one asked. stick to the facts. also the notifications and tracking are completely bananas. they can not be turned off in the app. phone alerts every time someone in a foreign country sneezes and a new conflict is born thus a story deemed newsworthy. too many alerts that I cant turn off or silence thru app settings. thats a deal breaker. unacceptable people.
I'm elated that someone has taken this long needed approach to news reporting. only facts. shows you who's not reporting it, and gives you links to those outlets that are (in case you want to read more from a more biased source). thoughtful, useful, elegant. thank you!
