So here's my honest take on The Building Blocks of Rock. I've tried a bunch of guitar learning apps and this one's pretty solid. The huge library of riffs and licks is great for building up your skills, and the visual presentation makes it easy to learn. Doesn't go super in-depth but it's a good supplement to regular practice. Only downside is it can feel a bit repetitive after using it for a while, but for a free app it's hard to complain.

Pros

  • Huge library of common guitar riffs and licks
  • Visual lessons make it easy to learn the fingerings
  • Looping feature lets you practice the licks
  • Free to use, no need to pay for premium features

Cons

  • Lessons can start to feel repetitive after a while
  • Doesn't go super in-depth, more of a supplementary tool
  • Wish there were more interactive practice exercises

Description

Been using The Building Blocks of Rock for a couple months now. It’s basically an app that shows you hundreds of the most common guitar riffs and licks from rock songs. Pretty solid if you’re trying to build up your guitar skills and vocabulary.

Here’s what you do – you can browse through different categories of riffs and licks, then tap on them to see the fingerings and tablature. And there’s also a cool feature where you can loop a riff or lick and practice it. And the visuals are great, it’s really easy to see where you’re supposed to put your fingers.

Look, if you’re a guitarist trying to get better, you’ll probably like this. It’s not perfect – the lessons can get a bit repetitive after a while – but overall it does the job. Worth checking out, especially since it’s free to use.
