I wish I could leave 0 Stars.. I was very disappointed in my experience on this app. They don't care if you're being charged ridiculously for nothing. AS A PRO: I experienced over charging on several occasions, missed leads due to technical issues on the app, was matched to over 50 leads in the time I deactivated my account and put my business on pause (all the while still being charged), I reached out each time and never received feedback. They charge you for each lead, no matter what.
Reviews for Thumbtack for Professionals
← Back to Thumbtack for ProfessionalsPros: Can have a profile photo, and upload as many more as you'd like. Background checked. Can add a lot of specifics through the detailed questions they ask for your profile. Will refund you if the direct lead contacts you, you respond, but they don't see after 24 hours. CONS! : The app allows you to block out dates on your calendar but they never look which means you can block out dates but they will still reach out and you have to pay as a result!!
I used to really like this app - even though it was a little pricey, enough leads turned into active customers and the money I paid came back to me ten-fold. But now my last 10 leads have not turned into customers, and many of them are completely outside of my service area that I have posted on my Thumbtack. When I've requested refunds, I have not received them except for one "courtesy credit," even though I shouldn't be paying for these leads in the first place. Very frustrated.
I used to love this app, I've had it for over a year. I was finally
starting to get some good clients. But I HATE their new payment system, the
price doesn't seem to match what I charge. Increasing my rates to match the
prices thumbtack charges doesn't seem fair to my clients. Getting hired is
never guaranteed, but each quote is so expensive now. Wish they would go
back.
Update: Just reduce it to a one star and removed my banking information. It is very cost prohibitive to pay out between $11 and $20 just for someone to look at your quote. This had become nothing more than a money pit app. App started out convenient. Is a complete waste since those that are looking for services don't do any follow-ups. It'd be great to go through and only be charged if actually got hired. I went from having a $16 credit to owing $14 in a matter of a week and still have not received any contracts or any jobs through this app. Complete waste of my time, complete waste of my money.
So many problems. The whole system is broken. You get charged regardless if a customer hires you or not & customers can request quotes from as many providers as they wish. Sometimes customers aren't even serious about buying, they're just feeling around but you end up paying full price for a lead (usually around $4.00) for nothing. I've been in business since 2008. I still get more customers off my Facebook ads & my Craigslist ads then I've ever got from thumbtack yet is has been more expensive.
It's completely BS. You were charged automatically for a lead, but here's the funny part: while your customer can choose the professional who offers the best price, each professional charged a fee. Ultimately, only one gets hired, and that's the one who quotes the lowest price. Additionally, after you schedule and book your time, the customer can cancel appointment because they find someone else on Thumbtack. Because even you get booked doesn't mean you get hired until the job done.
The fees are too high. They automatically charge you for ALL of the leads that match your preferences, which might be an issue if for whatever reason you can't do all of them, OR if someone out-bids you, OR if a customer simply decides to cancel their party or not book the same type of vendor. And they do not send every message to the customers. That being said, I have booked a lot of gigs through this app, but I just know that it should be four times that based on what I'm charged. Don't use!!
This app WAS great for companies looking for gigs. For a small fee to connect with potential customers, you could get specific and relevant client requests, and were able to use the app as a safe mediator between the client and worker. Unfortunately, they changed the way the whole system works, in an apparent attempt to make more money. It now costs small-time pros too much to quote a job, and potential customers only seem to send generic requests anymore. Hope they can get things figured out...
Some of the ppl complaining about paying for leads are ridiculous. I understand that not everyone is going to hire me and may go with someone else. HOWEVER, I do not like the high number of leads I have paid for lately with absolutely no reply from the customer. It just seems shady. I've spent $35 this week alone on leads requesting pricing, availability, etc, only to not hear anything back from the customer at all. Their customer service used to be great and they would refund me. Not anymore!
Wouldn't recommend this scam of an app to anyone. I wish I read more of the reviews before using the app. You have to pay for "leads" which are very slim chances at getting jobs. Once you pay for the lead, the customers rarely message you back, there is no guarantee at all you will get what you paid for. I lost $70 within the first 2 days of using the app on leads that never replied to me and thumbtack WILL NOT refund. Even if you are a new user once they have your money they couldn't care less.
The leads are horrible (many times feel fake, as they give fake emails and phone numbers. then you don't get reimbursed), expensive, shared with many; and now, they allow people to contact your profile but make you pay to respond, so if you don't pay, the client thinks you are unprofessional and unresponsive. Only gave 2 stars, rather than 1, because I have had some good clients in the past; but, ratio is 8 bad 1 good (have to pay for all the sane).
This may be the most frustrating customer service from an app I've ever dealt with. After freezing my account because of "licensing problems" a month ago. I've sent them every license I obtain and I need to operate my business in NYS. Yet they still haven't reinstated my account and instead keep sending me vague emails about needing to send licenses that don't exist. This app is meant for contractors who deal with customer service every day... you'd think they would have some of their own.
1) The part where you respond to customers is really difficult to see when typing a response. This should be changed. 2) There's no rhyme or reason to how they price the leads. 3) It would be nice to get a detailed fees being charged. I try to reconcile and sometimes when it's for multiple leads, the fees don't add up.
I do not recommend this app at all. I was charged over $200 for just three leads, none of which were valid—one had a disconnected number, and the others never responded. I asked for a refund, and they denied it. They also don’t clearly inform you how much each lead will cost until after you’ve entered your payment info. It’s misleading and not worth it. If you're trying to grow your business, this app is more of a risk than a help.
Thumbtack used to be a great service and I had gotten a few clients from it. It used to be you would receive leads and you could pick and choose what lead you wanted. Leads were between $3 and $7 each. But it has gotten consistently worse over the years and is now to the point to where, they send you a lead that THEY think is good for you, and automatically charge you (over $20 per lead now) for it, regardless if it's ACTUALLY a good lead or you're able to even take on a client at that time.
I am not sure that I am a fan. the app is less than easy to navigate. not to mention having to pay for a lead when I can't respond to the leads until I have provided a past customer review. They had no problem taking funds from me, but I could not book any jobs until that was completed. I was only teased with potential work and have yet to actually get any work.
Thumbtack feels like a rip off. I am hesitant to use because it will often charge me for clients that are too far or don't match my search criteria, without enough local options. If I could find a similar, as popular service, I would switch. I like the overall idea of the company, how well the platform is set up and the per client pricing scheme. I have just wasted a lot of money on leads that were over an hour away.
My experience with this lead service has been frustrating and expensive. Contractors are charged hefty fees every time a potential client reaches out, even if there's no genuine interest. You're still billed if the client isn't interested or if you lose the bid, competing against others paying for the same leads. Fees range from $9 to over $100, quickly adding up. I requested multiple refunds, but most were denied. In two months, I received 56 leads, secured 2 and was billed $1,376 for nothing!
I was ripped off by this app more than once. I asked for a refund when they charged me twice (almost $40 altogether) for a "lead" and the would-be customer ghosted me. We never even had a conversation! Thumbtack told me that they "credited my Thumbtack account" but never did, then kept the money when I closed the account altogether because it's a total ripoff. I'm going to pay less for 6 months for a website than a month of Thumbtack. 👎🏼
