Reviews for Warbler Guide App

Does not work under Android 10. "Check for updates" goes to page to download data, and data appears to be downloaded, but species pages come up blank, as if data aren't in the expected location.

I downloaded the app several years ago and initially it worked fine. A few months ago the app stopped working and won't show pictures and sound. I tried reinsalling several times. Still no improvement. Waiting for the bugs to be fixed. I am using a Motorola 2024 5G phone.

I paid for this app to have access to bird song in areas with no cell phone service but it no longer loads anything. I uninstalled and reinstalled but nothing works..there are no images nothing..it's like this app has been shutdown or abandoned..what a shame.

When there are updates, it never updates properly. Just now I had no photos. I had to uninstall and reinstall. When it works, the information is very useful and plentiful with very helpful sorting and filtering.

This app was always a little buggy but was totally worth it during warbler season. Unfortunately, it no longer works on my Samsung S23 Ultra. Thumbnail images don't load, and when you select a bird to look at in more detail, the app crashes entirely.

I've had this for many years as a buggy but excellent app, and now it's just one big bug on my Pixel 6. No images and crashes constantly, as others have said. It's a shame to waste such a resource but even more shameful that people are still able to lose money on it-- should be fixed (ideally!) or shuttered ASAP because it's unethical to offer it as-is.

Like many other users on newer Android devices, while the audio for the calls does work fairly well, the images do not show when selected, only a blank page with the text at the top cut off. This app worked brilliantly on my older Android. Disappointing. I interviewed Tom Stevenson on a podcast back in 2020 when the app was new, and he was great, so was the app. Now... not so much. C'mon, Princeton Press! How about a little help? You got our money, how about some support?

Alert to all Android users! This is now working beautifully once again, just in time to sort out confusing fall warblers. I was deeply unhappy when it stopped working with an Android update, 14. I have a Google Pixel Pro 6. Delighted the developers heard the many cries of anguish and have fixed this great app. The best for warbler ID, sounds and images. The 3D rotating views & comparisons to similar species are superb innovations.

Its a good app, needs a little tlc, but I still use it all the time. Not sure about the negative android trouble, I have pixel 7 and it is working just fine. Did you try to make sure you were connected to good wifi and could probably restart your phone to make sure it is not acting up.

I have had problems with this app recently. I sent a message through the Princeton website using the Contact Us form on the Warbler App page. I received a quick, polite response that they are aware of things not working. I appreciate that response and hope things get straightened out soon. It's a really good app.

May 2019. Sounds now play so good there. However, still no option to move to SD card something that should have been added in update. One up to 3 stars. Had since it was released and still does not play calls inspite of uninstalling and reinstalling numerous times. No option to install on or move to external SD card. Definitely needs to be improved

Unfortunately the app does not work properly. When selecting a bird a blank page is shown. I'm using it on an Android, perhaps it works better on an iphone. Very disappointing especially since I paid for it and there is no technical support available.

It works fine for me. I really like being able to compare the songs quickly by showing a number of sonograms side by side. The only problem I've had with it is the buttons for playing the bird songs are small and it is sometimes hard to hit the Start button just right--a small drawback to an otherwise excellent app.

Excellent when it works, but sometimes you cannot clear filters and the only way to reset seems to be to reinstall. Sometimes when you reinstall there is no audio or images and at the moment I have neither! I later discovered you have to go into settings, scroll down to check for updates and you then get the option to download images and calls.

So far this app has blown me away with the incredible amount of information and ability to easily and quickly compare species by sight and sound. At first, the songs and calls were not playing but then I was prompted to download what looked like the last one percent of the app and it works! I saw that the app might be buggy but for the price, I took the chance and I'm so glad I did. Even if the sound didnt work, it would still be a very useful tool.

Love the app when it is working. Best app for warblers until the last upgrade. Keep downloading assets but will not install it. I have the Pixel 7 pro and the latest android system. Please fix the problem and I will change the rating. Right now with the spring migration, this app is useless! Wrote directly to Princeton press. They are aware of the problems with Android system. Sad! They have not work on the problem. App will not work on recent android operating system.

Update to my 8/17/24 review: Much of the app, which had been totally non-functional for several months after years of working beautifully on my Pixel 6A, now works again, but tabs are not labelled, and smart filtering for markings and color has only 5 color choices (9 shown on the app website), and only 3 marking choices, streaking, white wingbars, and yellow wingbars, so still not worth more than 3 stars at this point. Also, no tech support!

Like others, I downloaded the app to use on my Android smartphone and it is unable to download the assets (pictures and sounds). Have tried to download on WiFi and mobile data connections. It says there is an error. This app is entirely non-functional and I can't use any features. Agree with others that it needs to be updated or pulled from Android OS if it won't work for Android devices.

This app is extraordinary when it works. It has been glitchy lately in the field, occasionally showing birds that should be out of range but not showing a bird that very much should have been listed for the geography and season. It took forever to find a help page. I emailed. Got no reply. This is the most I've ever paid for an app so I wish it didn't suddenly get glitchy lately. Now that I'm connected to WiFi it seems to be ok but how often is there WiFi in the middle of nowhere in the woods?

Hasn't worked in months. I rely on it for fall warbler id, which can be tricky. Giving it 2 stars because when it does work, it's great. Update: I emailed Princeton University Press. They responded, and apparently, a recent Android update made the app incompatible. Received another response asking for what phone I'm using and what version of Android to see if they can find a solution. Hopefully fixed soon. Upgrading to 4 stars for effort.
