This app was wonderful, I even had a subscription any time I could afford it. Now the app has limited even basic logging to breathing and showers. I am now tracking my progress elsewhere. I do an ice bath everyday, and have found a third party breath bubble. I used to do the slow breathing due to my higher altitude, so the YouTube does not work well for me at the rate of breath it provides. I also frequently go beyond the time limits of the breath hold on the site, but it is difficult to pause the video and track your time. I purchased the hardback book and use it for the all the information.
Reviews for Wim Hof Method: Breathwork
← Back to Wim Hof Method: BreathworkUseful app that continues to add new content and features, more exercises, challanges, and breathing bubble customization. Subscription model is not for everyone, and I hope that the developers will add some more payment options (for example a less expensive basic sub below the current one, and a family plan above the current sub, ideally a few fundamental elements like the bubble could be one time purchases). For my use, it's a good value and I'd recommend it.
It's a solid app. Yeah, it's a subscription, but not an expensive one. And it has really made the Wim Hof Method more accessible for me. I bought the Fundamentals course and have found myself using the app's guided breathing over the course's. I also love the shower timer. Surprisingly useful little app. For those upset that it's not free, keep in mind that the cost to maintain the app went up significantly when they hired professional software developers (not cheap).
I like the app, but it needs work. Literally every other day, the app locks up "syncing results" and won't load until I restart my phone. Also, should have a pause button during breathing and rounds, as sometimes you have to yawn, swallow, whatever and can't keep pace with the breath bubble even when it's set on slow. Since it locks up every other day, its just too frustrating for me to use.
The app works well at first. But while it says there are exercises that are free, after a week those "free" exercises just go to the subscription screen. And even after closing that, it says, "You can still use the free exercises." Then when I try to use them it goes again to the subscription page. Stop lying and tell people it's only free for a week!
Edit: the app has moved to a subscription plan after I had paid for it previously. I'm quite disappointed in the bait and switch. @ $45 a year the app is over priced for the features I do use. The guided breathing bubble I can find from other apps for free with tracking which is my primary use. Was a great app. Simple. Useful. Great way to start the day. Over priced
Most of the things are now working w/o problems. The app is improving and I'm glad to see that. Good job! Please consider adding the following features: - option to delete a single breathing excercise round. Sometimes I accidentally add a round, when I intend to finish. The retention time then messes up my average and I have to reset the results and re-enter them manually, since there is no delete option. - option to delete a single record when logging the excercizes manually - same reason.
It's pretty good and I like that you can do the breathing with Wim. It's hard to interact with the app during breathing though. If the breathing experience was more like the YouTube videos, it would be better. A warning before retention because you can't really tell when it's time with your eyes closed. And a brief pause between rounds. The timing gets thrown off and it ends up recording another round for a few seconds while you try to tap to stop.
The app itself is very nice. However I think it's lame how I paid $3 in the begining to unlock the full version and use the breathing bubble, and then they switched over a month and a half later to a paid version where you have to pay $17.99 a month just to do the basic breathing exercises. I'll delete it once my free trial is up, and find a different app to do breathing exercises. I don't understand why they think their program is worth $17.99 a month when it's basically just an animated timer.
I enjoy the app and have told family and friends to check it out. It has a hard time auto rotating videos on the iPad and occasionally on my Pixel phone. I would give five starts if a couple of things were added. I would like to be able to cast to my TV. The guided breathing bubble is great. It would be even better if you could set the number of breaths you wanted to take and adjust the rate more than the current two options. I recommend the app and the method.
I've been using this app since 2018, logging all of the breath work rounds and cold showers. I've had several different phones during this period, all have had no problems keeping all of my sessions logged each time I log into the new phone in the app. I just recently lost almost 1800 breathing sessions that were logged due to a continuous "syn failed" issue. I've reached out to support twice and haven't heard a thing back. It's a bummer to see all of that data lost.
Just another money-grabbing app that wants to charge for every feature. I don't care for all these extras. I downloaded this app soley for its guided 'breathing basics' portion so that I don't have to count every breath. I mean part of this system is to keep a clear head right? How am I supposed to do that if I'm counting? You only get a handful of free ones before it asks for you to upgrade for the year. It'll let you use it's 'retention timer' which all that is, is a stop watch. Uninstalling.
Wim hof advertises a free app. I was happy with the free version. Then I was required to pay a monthly fee if I wanted to continue using. Ok fine but it doesn't start unless I am online. This is an expensive app which would be worth the price if it worked properly. Please fix it and I think you should have revealed that the free version was only available for limited time. feels scammy to charge a monthly fee for an app that doesn't work after offering a free one which was fineExpected better.
I downloaded this several years ago and I paid to have all the exercises unlocked, then I stop using it for a while. when I got back into it they expanded app immensely and added a subscription model which is understandable, but they have severely restricted what I can do now even less than before, the most basic feature that I paid for, the guided breathing, is now limited to 5 times a month, so I basically paid for nothing. For that I can't honestly give this a more than 1 star.
Generally works well and helps visualise progress and activities/challenges. But I don't really like how the app is shifting toward a paying for more of services that use to be free. If you are just looking for the guided breathing exercises I recommend going to their youtube channel. However, if I found myself making this a bigger part of my life then I would probably pay for the services.
I loved the app when it was free and I understand everyone wants to make a buck but I mainly used to log my breathing. If I knew I'd use it unlike a gym membership I'd gladly pay. I never even got to the 5 for free and now I have to subscribe. I'll go back to listening to the videos. Kind of expensive for a timer that every phone already has. All of my previous data that was logged was also deleted.
Since the major update the guided breathing is buggy. I can't select half of the music, I can't change the music volume, the breathing sounds are completely out of sync with the bubble, 30 breaths sometimes means 30, 30.5 or 31, retention times are acting all weird (the time after it reaches 0 and new round is started varies a lot). Animations are weird as well, the overall experience is so much worse.
I was surprised how much content I can use with the free app. I just now found a few more stretching exercises and I got a bunch of fun little badges that make me feel super accomplished. I wish I had timed myself the very first time I did any of the trackable exercises because I would know where to start myself off. In the cold shower one for example I don't think that I'm a beginner, I really like cold showers.
I've only recently decided to write a review as I stopped using this app a couple of years ago when the subscription model took effect. I'm a huge fan of WH and his teachings. It was a tremendous disappointment that, after purchasing the essentials course, I am still required to pay a monthly fee for an animated breathing bubble narrated by Wim Hof. Really feels like the spirit of the method is being replaced by the spirit of $$$.
The update requires a subscription. I wouldn't mind paying once. All I want is the breathing bubble but that's $45 a year. Subscription model is the worst. Not everyone wants new content. The fact is we are paying to breathe. Keep basic functions and higher learning separately and have the option of paying outright. I'm happy I didn't pay for the temporary "full version" because I could tell the leadership is greedy. If yall really want to start a movement appeal to the emotions more.
