Reviews for CHRONO TRIGGER (Upgrade Ver.)

← Back to CHRONO TRIGGER (Upgrade Ver.)

AWESOME! Been playing this since the SNES and still own my copy. Only 4* cuz targeting an enemy is awkward, and you'll sometimes go after the wrong enemy, making your TEC not hit all who were intended. And, to fix the 'no sound bug', you'll have to use the "

In short this is a great port of the legendary Super Nintendo game. Touch controls are okay but not great (esp in active combat and puzzles), but that's the roughest edge here. Also unlike the older version you can now play in airplane mode! Boss battles are punishingly hard as always. For those new to the game, welcome to one of the most gobsmackingly beautiful 16-bit games of all time. This game is overflowing with charm, humanity, and ambition. A must play for RPG fans!

This is NOT 2 stars for the game itself. But the app. Beat it my first time, went through the ending, and the game crashed after the credits. Had to replay the final boss. Did it again. So on the Third time, I blasted past all dialog and skipped the final cutscene. Chrono Trigger is a 10/10 game. This app sucks. Also, it'd be really helpful if there was any audio control for the game itself. This is a me thing, but I like grinding and podcasting

This was my first time playing this game, I have to say it is fantastic overall Despite my worry. There are two cons and one is that occasionally when you're in the menus you have to fight with it to be able to choose whatever you're trying to use or sometimes when the game demands precision then moving around is a bit frustrating, because of that it makes active battle and evading monsters outside battle a little harder. Another con is that the bookmark is unreliable, don't use it.

This is and has always been an excellent game. The story and gameplay were revolutionary for the time. Great nostalgia trip. Now to the bad. The controls are very glitchy. Chrono will get stuck on nothing alot and do that head shake thing saying we can't move forward. This is problematic during anything that requires a bit more precision (catching the rat in the dome for example) and the some mini games in the festival are impossible because of this. No way to 100% it. Still fun

Same as everyone else. Black screen that closes then reopens to the game on mute. It really takes away the nostalgia when you can't hear it. EDIT: So I'm dead serious when I say this. I started the soundtrack on YouTube while the title screen was open just to be funny. While switching from YouTube, back to the app, it somehow glitched the music on. I've been able to replicate it multiple times.

While the gameplay is fun and the music is great, I am unable to regularly play the game because sometimes when the game starts, it is stuck on a black screen indefinitely. Restarting doesn't fix the issue. I think it has something to do with the bookmark feature; very often those saves don't work anyways (upon "resume", the game crashes, and upon subsequent restart, resume is no longer there). Please fix your game.

I'm glad to be playing Chrono Trigger on a mobile, but these controls are terrible. What scares me the most is that this is apparently the upgraded version. I have not tried this with a controller, which would be a saving grace if it works correctly (at all). As it stands, I often find it challenging to select correct actions and/or targets. This has led to frequent errors and irritations. This should be a 5 star app: Chrono Trigger is an incredible classic JRPG. Fix the poor controls!

I believe the game is awesome up until you get to death peak. Whoever decided to make the controls for this game specifically on that part wasn't thinking. They are way to unresponsive for that part of the game which made it very frustrating to have to keep trying over and over. The original on snes and even the version on playstation i never had this much difficulty on such an easy part. Had it not been for that i would have given the game a 5. Smh.

Excellent port of one of my all time favorite games. Also includes the anime cut scenes. Touchscreen controls are good enough. Can't ask for better really.. you can use an external controller if you want. Save state feature is a nice touch. Was able to transfer my save file to my new phone with ease by uploading to the cloud. I highly recommend this port. It takes me right back to my childhood when I play this on the plane or on a long bus ride.

It's probably one of the best RPGs from the 90s golden age of RPGs on the SNES. I've had literally no issues with this version. I also use the Backbone controller for mobile phone devices, and that improves the experience greatly (never use touch controls if you don't have to). Some of the other minor issues other reviewers talk about did not happen to me. A fun trip down nostalgia lane.

Probably my favorite jrpg of all time, but literally any other version is better than this. Sometimes the app just fails to start and needs to be closed out. Sometimes your save file just loads into a black screen and you need to restart the game. Once you can get in, the controls are so terrible, I don't know how you would complete some later sections of the game at all. I won't find out, because after playing an hour, I'm going back to my NDS copy of the game.

This is a very good port, with a very good retranslation, but I need to dock it a star because it has a seriously annoying bug. For some reason, the Square Enix logo fails to load, and then when you try to play, it has no sound. The only solution is to repeatedly open and close the game until the logo pops up. It sometimes takes up to 10 attempts to get the game to start.

Held off on purchasing the game after reading the reviews. After awhile I decided to give it a shot. Fast forward the clock and I'm 30hrs in and ive almost 100%'d the game. I didn't have any technical issues with the game whatsoever, there are some frustrations in combat during tense situations where It was hard to attack accurately, but for $5 I'm glad I finally played this game. Would recommend 👍

Definitely my favorite game of all time. The controls take some getting used to, you can't mute the music/sounds, and you can't customize the background colors like you can in the SNES version, but it does have the updated additional content from the DS version (no spoilers from me, if you know, you know!) Update: after the most recent update, I cannot progress past the first Lavos encounter, the game auto closes. You can now mute the music, but only through gaming hub, not the game itself.

I've been playing this game for several days now, and overall it's a decent port. The reason I'm knocking down a star is for the controls. They need some work, particularly for combat. It makes playing frustrating at times. The catch a rat sequence is particularly awful. Overall though, they did a decent job in porting this game for Android. The music sounds great, and the graphics are great. I'm looking forward to finishing this classic RPG.

The graphics (blurred sprites and backgrounds) look truly horrible. Please add in an original graphics setting and change the font like in the Steam version, those changes alone would make this a 5 star review. Otherwise, this game is incredible and it should be played by everyone, but on a different platform. The mobile version could be great with very minor tweaks, but without them it represents Chrono Trigger poorly.

absolutely well done game and story! once I started it I found it difficult to put down, the graphics are smooth and easy on the eyes! the fights are gripping tough bosses you can't auto attack through you need to strategize and the farming is easy and worth it! sometimes the simple controls get in the way between moving quickly and trying to open chests but that's hardly a game buster! 5 out of 5 would recommend

App crashed and erased my save file. I would warn against spending money on this as it's unstable with several serious bugs that make it more or less unplayable. I repeatedly encountered a bug in which the app would get stuck on a black screen and had to be hard restarted. During one of these restarts, my save file was completely erased. Devs, if you're going to push shoddy workmanship to the live play store, you could at least not charge $5 for it.

It's a good and very playable port of the best JRPG of all time. However, on a basic technical level unrelated to the game, this app is poorly constructed. Most of the time, the game opens to a black screen instead of starting, or goes to the black screen after loading a save. It will run as normal if minimized and reopened, but without sound. Other times, it opens correctly and plays with sound, but I can't figure out a way to reliably produce that performance.
