This game is absolutely brilliant. It has an engaging story, gameplay that is repetitive only if you lose, loads of customizable playstyles, an actual campaign, cool art, thoughtful dialogue. I have been playing games of all kinds for a long time and I really appreciate this game and the people who made it. I've bought the game for some of my friends and all of them were like "I would have bought it if I knew it was worth it" lol. :)
Reviews for Crying Suns
I have to admit I'm not very good at this game, but the gameplay loop is fantastic. You aren't punished for dying, but you don't carry as much over as in many other Rogue-likes. The strategy has real depth beyond its simple rock-paper-scissor roots, and managing your fleet always feels important. The graphics are well done, and the aesthetic feels fresh.
Really, really great game. Heavily similar to FTL, instead w/ direct control of your "squadrons" (units). Gameplay is smooth and easy but allows for a wide range of strategies to win. Interface can be a bit much at first but you will get used to it. I absolutely love this game and have been playing it nonstop. Only thing I wish would be fixed is when you are rewarded a captain for some reason and you don't have any open spots for them the game forces you to choose a captain to swap for the new.
It pains me to say this, but the tutorial could be a little more thorough given the depth of this game. Still, after you lose a few times - to be expected in a roguelike - several parts of combat get pretty clear. That said, this is as deep a game as you'd want to play on your phone, with great scripting and a really engaging story. Having to manage ship weapons and squadrons of dependent boats at the same time can get to be a bit much, but now I'm just nit-picking.
If im being honest, I wasn't sure what to expect with this game. It sounded interesting so I thought I'd try it out. The story is awesome! I fantastic sci-fi "who dine it" style rogue like. It's challenging enough to keep me on my toes during battles, but not so impossible I can't win. You can upgrade your main battle ship and either upgrade your fighter ships or get better ones. Lots of small ways to customize. Over all it's a refreshingly unique game!
Excellent! It has the rougelike feeling from FTL, but it also addresses my main issue with FTL, namely a lack of control and agency in the rqnrom things that happen. In this game, sound strategy can really make the difference between a good and bad run, and you can point to the mistakes you made in combat as the moments that put you behind the curve for the run. But there is always more to unlock and explore, so even a doomed run is not a waste. It makes everything worth it. Amazing game.
Very enjoyable. Minor complaints: 1. Quests acquired should be listed in a log for ease of review and make decision since backtracking is difficult. 2. When I attempted retreat during a landing mission, it asked to retain 25% of loot but recover all commandos and listed 39 scrap. It should explicitly state if any other loot is lost. I didn't know the weapon is not part of the 25% since you can't recover 25% of a weapon. In any case, more information is better than less if possible.
Nearly perfect. My main complaint is that sometimes, when entering a battle, the 'board' loads up but the UI never comes in, this sitting in a 'pause' mode where you cannot take action. Additionally, at times it can be tricky to 'tap' a button with your fingers, often mistapping. Outside of that, the gameplay loop rocks and the story is seriously good so far. Very easy to learn the game and is fairly forgiving with mistakes in it's death loop .
Amazing little roguelite with a heavy emphasis on tactics and narrative. The text is a little small to see and on my older phone was virtually impossible to read despite running fine otherwise, so I was only recently able to dive into this game. An option to increase the text size would be perfect, so it could be comfortable to read on the phone. Otherwise, use a tablet.
Amazing and absolutely worth playing. The storyline is engaging and the gameplay is great. It's a mix of choose your own adventure, command and conquer and a text based rpg. The graphics are super cool, 8bit mixed with stunning visuals. The only drawbacks are the bosses all feel redundant after a point and there isn't a way to upgrade ship weapons like you can squadrons but the story does definitely make up for this (for me anyway). Definitely one of my new favorites.
