This game is absolutely brilliant. It has an engaging story, gameplay that is repetitive only if you lose, loads of customizable playstyles, an actual campaign, cool art, thoughtful dialogue. I have been playing games of all kinds for a long time and I really appreciate this game and the people who made it. I've bought the game for some of my friends and all of them were like "I would have bought it if I knew it was worth it" lol. :)
Reviews for Crying Suns
← Back to Crying SunsI have to admit I'm not very good at this game, but the gameplay loop is fantastic. You aren't punished for dying, but you don't carry as much over as in many other Rogue-likes. The strategy has real depth beyond its simple rock-paper-scissor roots, and managing your fleet always feels important. The graphics are well done, and the aesthetic feels fresh.
Really, really great game. Heavily similar to FTL, instead w/ direct control of your "squadrons" (units). Gameplay is smooth and easy but allows for a wide range of strategies to win. Interface can be a bit much at first but you will get used to it. I absolutely love this game and have been playing it nonstop. Only thing I wish would be fixed is when you are rewarded a captain for some reason and you don't have any open spots for them the game forces you to choose a captain to swap for the new.
It pains me to say this, but the tutorial could be a little more thorough given the depth of this game. Still, after you lose a few times - to be expected in a roguelike - several parts of combat get pretty clear. That said, this is as deep a game as you'd want to play on your phone, with great scripting and a really engaging story. Having to manage ship weapons and squadrons of dependent boats at the same time can get to be a bit much, but now I'm just nit-picking.
If im being honest, I wasn't sure what to expect with this game. It sounded interesting so I thought I'd try it out. The story is awesome! I fantastic sci-fi "who dine it" style rogue like. It's challenging enough to keep me on my toes during battles, but not so impossible I can't win. You can upgrade your main battle ship and either upgrade your fighter ships or get better ones. Lots of small ways to customize. Over all it's a refreshingly unique game!
Excellent! It has the rougelike feeling from FTL, but it also addresses my main issue with FTL, namely a lack of control and agency in the rqnrom things that happen. In this game, sound strategy can really make the difference between a good and bad run, and you can point to the mistakes you made in combat as the moments that put you behind the curve for the run. But there is always more to unlock and explore, so even a doomed run is not a waste. It makes everything worth it. Amazing game.
Very enjoyable. Minor complaints: 1. Quests acquired should be listed in a log for ease of review and make decision since backtracking is difficult. 2. When I attempted retreat during a landing mission, it asked to retain 25% of loot but recover all commandos and listed 39 scrap. It should explicitly state if any other loot is lost. I didn't know the weapon is not part of the 25% since you can't recover 25% of a weapon. In any case, more information is better than less if possible.
Nearly perfect. My main complaint is that sometimes, when entering a battle, the 'board' loads up but the UI never comes in, this sitting in a 'pause' mode where you cannot take action. Additionally, at times it can be tricky to 'tap' a button with your fingers, often mistapping. Outside of that, the gameplay loop rocks and the story is seriously good so far. Very easy to learn the game and is fairly forgiving with mistakes in it's death loop .
Amazing little roguelite with a heavy emphasis on tactics and narrative. The text is a little small to see and on my older phone was virtually impossible to read despite running fine otherwise, so I was only recently able to dive into this game. An option to increase the text size would be perfect, so it could be comfortable to read on the phone. Otherwise, use a tablet.
Amazing and absolutely worth playing. The storyline is engaging and the gameplay is great. It's a mix of choose your own adventure, command and conquer and a text based rpg. The graphics are super cool, 8bit mixed with stunning visuals. The only drawbacks are the bosses all feel redundant after a point and there isn't a way to upgrade ship weapons like you can squadrons but the story does definitely make up for this (for me anyway). Definitely one of my new favorites.
Gameplay is good, but do not buy at this time. Not now. Before Last Orders, the game did not crash. After Last Orders it started to bug our during fights, specifically in instances when more than one event happens in a fight, which is often. This bug would not let you finish a fight, even if you won the battle despite the bug. The newest bugfix did not solve it, but instead has led to a new bug that crashes the game within 2-5 minutes of entering a fight. Do not buy this game until it is fixed
This game is a lot of fun. I would give it 5 stars if it didn't freeze when deploying 5 squadron ships (4 ships + 1 flanking fighter) for the chapter IV cluster boss fight (which, itself, immediately deploys 3 squadron ships). I had to gradually deploy ships, and be careful not to move them all during the meteor showers. Earlier levels were also stuttering. This may be because my phone is two years old, in which case the game shouldn't be available for my phone or phones with similar specs.
I played this first on PC when epic had it for free and kept thinking "this would be a great game for the phone" and I was right ha. The story is interesting, the combat is fun, but the whole game is in your planning. If you like strategy games, maybe something like xcom or civilization, you'll probably like this. Resource management is key, plus a little luck. Graphics are pretty nice for mobile too. I've been playing this for hours now and it's just a few bucks, I say try it out!
This is finally an effin game where you just buy it and play it, no pay to win mechanics, and the writing from what I've played in the first area, has been better than many console and computer games alike. Phone controls are plenty intuitive after some fumbling, and as far as money goes, I'd pay twice this for a game of this caliber easily
I highly recommend this game as I have just finished the first chapter of this game and it's the first mobile game I've truly enjoyed in a long time. The graphics are great and the story is very interesting. From what I can tell so far this appears to be a roguelite in a similar vein to FTL on PC, though a. It different as it has a storyline to go with it and it appears that as you progess you unlock ships and officers to start out with on your next run.
Well, to start, I am a fan of Dune and Foundation. So I decided to buy this game. It's worth the cost, don't get me wrong. I would recommend you buy it if you like science fiction. But the strategy is kind of basic with little depth in battle mode. Plus many enemies will offer a truce for rewards if you cease attacking them, usually when you are winning anyways. Sometimes I can beat an opponent by laser attacks alone. It just doesn't feel "strategic" in my opinion. E.g. kick down the door sorry?
Hands down the best mobile game I've ever played. Pros: Great Pixel art Fun Combat Cheap Hours of enjoyment Great story! You get constant refreshers so the game doesn't punish you for putting it down. Gripes: By chapter 2/3 you know all the beacon event choices to make, and you just repeat them over and over again. I would pay for a PC version of this game that had 3-4x more events, and story options. The ship selection is a little lack luster.
The perfect mobile game! What a very pleasant surprise. The campaign part is very similar to FTL but the battle system is different, but very fun in its own right. But the most surprising is how well the story and lore is developed. Sometimes the dialogue can be weirdly infantile at the wrong moments, but aside from that: this game is definitely the best FTL-like on mobile!
Awesome gameplay, great graphics, intuitive controls, and a gripping story. The atmosphere is engaging, and combat is consistent without becoming stale. There are no ads, no IAP, and plenty of hours of replayability. It's a great value, and it will really hit the spot for anyone wanting console/PC level gaming on mobile.
One of the most engaging mobile games I've played in a while. Story, the choice system, etc. are all fantastic. However, some battles can be tedious and a bit frustrating at times. Certain enemy ships can be OP even when you have proper counters, such as longbows. It feels silly to get merc'd by one class of ship when you have a literal hanger full of counter class ships, and it's not an "elite" enemy. Sometimes, it can be easy to mix your units up with the enemies during a battle as well.
