I can't rotate the camera anymore and sometimes my game will stop responding to touch input altogether to the point that I can't even save my progress to close the app and open it again. There is so much potential with this game but so many bugs too. I'm guessing mobile version is not their top priority as it is not their top earner. It's really a shame though because this game could be hours of fun, if it worked all the time.
Reviews for Don't Starve: Pocket Edition
← Back to Don't Starve: Pocket EditionThe game Don't Starve is a really good one with a nice game concept. I really enjoy it however over 2 years of playing this game I started to notice some bugs like when I was in world #5 and I just went to the rope in the ruins to return to the caves. When I went to the caves, all of my things I had in my inventory was gone (including ruins items). This did not just happen once, but 4 times leading up to my 7th world playing. Also, there happens to be an annoying crash when you descend/save.
I think that this game is great. Whether you play to beat adventure or just to kill giants and survive long, it's excellent. However, placing things like walls is often harder than it needs to be, and I've had a bug that has ruined two of my worlds now. Going to cave depths 2 causes the game and my phone to freeze up completely, and since it autosaves, the worlds are ruined, and you don't get the XP from them either. This is a major problem that blocks me from accessing all the late game items.
You may want to invest in a joystick for this game. It can sometimes get confused as to which action you want it to perform. I was trying to pick up an object in-game and the game character started walking around instead. You end up just using your thumb for movement AND THEN pressing the pick up or melee button, not both at once. Otherwise you encounter that movement glitch. Otherwise, a good game.
I love this game, the art and music is amazing. The gameplay is challenging but rewarding, I have been hooked ever since I first got it. I love the characters backstories. But the controls are alittle wonky and combat really isn't all that good. Other than that I would say this works well for a mobile game. The main menu does feel a little chaotic, if it was a little more simplistic I would like it more.
I love this game and I've had this game installed since I got my phone nearly 6 months ago. This recent update last month has been quite a horrible one. While the game is always a tad slow to start, that hasn't been an issue, what HAS been an issue is I suddenly can't turn the camera for different angles. I've learned to rely on that to play, and it became second nature, and now it suddenly doesn't work. The other issue would definitely be the attack button sticking, and attacking nothing at all
Good. BUT, faced a huge bug as well. The game runs well with all the mechanics working smoothly except when you go down to the ruins, then the game will immediately crash. Since you can not move around to get out of the ruins either; this means you can not do anything, even die and get the experience, but delete the save. That was a let down as I was fully prepared for the ruins and that took a good amount of time too. Except for that the game plays great!
I've loved this game since it came out on steam for pc and I really like the click and drag aspect of it. The app is similar but I'd really appreciate it if the toggle for moving your character wasn't there and instead was the same as clicking anywhere on the screen like the pc version. The toggle makes it difficult to see where you're going because your finger is in the way most of the time while travelling and your character could possibly run right into a spider nest, hornets nest, or tall bird areas without noticing before it's too late to avoid. I want to be able to move my character around by clicking anywhere on the screen like the pc version and not only on items I can pick up. Does anyone else feel the same?
I love this game on PC and was surprised to see that this version is very well made. The controls are smooth and I haven't encountered any major bugs so well done devs! Update: There's one bug I found where the controls seldomly freeze up and I can only move my character but I can't pause, craft, or view the map. I have to restart the app for it to go away but I lose progress if I havent saved.
I have only one issue. There a bug that doesnt allow my touch to be recognized. For example, I die and when i am come back i cant move, interact with my hotbar, or pause so i can save and quit. It has happened a few times without me dying. It will save and then glitch for a second then i wont be able to do anything. Other than that, its a great game. Amazing graphics, great feel, and it has nice cinamatics.
It's a fun game, but the most recent version has a lot of bugs. The end of the world has tons of visual artifacts and you can't rotate the world anymore. Also seems to be some sort of issue when moving back and forth between menus where the item options disappear. Frustrating for combat when you have to repeatedly move in and out of the inventory to try to equip a spear or log suit. The same general experience as console or pc but a little buggy right now.
I love this game, but there are lots of bugs with the mobile phone version. It doesn't like to open the game, or access profiles occasionally, there seems to be lots of lag especially when opening the hub too. The graphics are not ported very well. It needs some updates to kill some bugs and adjust the graphics. It looks amazing on iOS, so I know it can be done.
Love this game. After the negative reviews, I was actually pleasantly surprised by how well it plays. Yes it definitely has some annoyances, such as hotbar item swapping and dropping (dropping items is finnicky, crockpotting from the refrigerator is a no go). Also, when trying to drop an item from the left side of the hotbar, the player will just start walking instead.. lastly there is no quickswapping weapons/tools. Overall having a great time though. It has good potential, pls keep updating!
Don't Starve is a great game, hands down. However, there are a few issues with this mobile port I hope can be worked out. For example, it feels as if some of the custom world settings don't save when you enter the world. The UI is also a bit clunky at times, with the joystick being static rather than floating and interacting with your hotbar being a chore.
It is a classic survival experience with a lot of unique stuff and a wonderful art style. However, the control can be awkward, especially in combat, and recently, the game has been extremely glitchy when it comes to navigating menus and general gameplay. The menu selects things or moves with no input, and in a game, it is near impossible to drop items from your inventory right now.
I really love Klei, and I play DS/T all the time on PC. But It's not really a great port. There's a bunch of bugs and crashes. The controls aren't too good either. The gameplay itself is still great though. If you don't have a PC or console (PS4, Xbox, or the switch) and have no other options, I'd go for it. But if you can, for the love of god play it on PC instead.
New challenge each time. You aren't given any information to start off, which means you really have to experiment and learn as you go. That's what makes this such an interesting game. Very much an old school challenge. You will die early and often the first few times playing until you can develop a strategy. But every game has unique variables, so what worked well last game may not this time because of different resources. Great game
This is a very fun game. I always wanted to play the PC version but never got around to it. It is perfectly suitable for an mobile game. You can easily kill 10 mins - 4 hrs if you want to. Replayability is never ending. I'm having so much fun exploring the worlds and trying to not starve my character. Would love to see dont starve together. I would happily pay for it a second time! I'm getting no bugs, glitches or anything else on my Samsung s9 plus. Thank you guys for an awesome game!
I usually play Don't Starve Together on Steam, but if I can't it's pretty fun! the game doesn't come anywhere close to the amount of stuff in Don't Starve Together, but you can still play most of the core parts of the game for hours. Im rating it 4 stars instead of 5 because after a while you'll have done pretty much everything in survival mode, and Adventure mode is very hard, as well as some of DST's best features missing, but good job Klei for making the game not eat up a bunch of storage!
There is no guide so you're literally thrown to the wolves! I've been playing this game non-stop for about 2 weeks now so, it is addicting. Adventure mode is ridiculous. It's kind of discouraging playing a map for 2-3 hours and you lose everything. I can't imagine how it would feel if I finally passed level 1 (there's 5 levels) and somehow made it to level 3 just to die and have to start all over. If you like being tortured, this game is for you. It's fun but incredibly difficult.
