The game is ok, typical mobile game with in-app perchases, the gameplay consists of you running around and getting attaked by enemies randomly, the fights are turned based, the story is your typical "chosen one saves the world" story. But the reason I'm giving this a 2 star is because the ads were a complete lie; they advertised a horror game and that's not even close to what this game is like. I don't recommend playing it, it's not worth investing time into it.
Reviews for Evertale
Misinformation. I wish I would have read the reviews before I made the purchase. The ads were the only reason I purchased the game. They made it seem like an awesome horror thrill base of a very popular monster catching game. But none of that is here. Huge disappointment. I was hoping that after playing a little the story would change and match the narrative of the ads. Such a same they did this to you.
It's really good if you want a pass-time. The story is Pokemon like and is fun. You don't really get any strong monsters from it so it's not very rewarding. It's also not very long. After you beat the main story, the online story mode is completely different. Not at all Pokemon like and is just a lot more boring. My biggest complaint is the PvP game mode. The ranking is really bad right now. I never can find an even match that is competitive and fin. Monsters of same rarity are also unbalanced!
Spend your time on a GOOD mobile game, like Granblue or Azur Lane. I'd rate it higher if the summon rates weren't on par with FGO. Absolutely atrocious. Would be great if you included a pity system of sorts. The gameplay is fine, but the AI on auto is lacking a lot, on manual I have no deaths, but on auto I'm down to my last two. Also have some control issues of my character not going where I want them to sometimes. However the story is somewhat interesting and it's a good start.
Skip this game. It's kinda fun because as you start and level up, you're like, oh sweet, can't wait for this to ramp up in difficulty. The RPG side of the game never gets there. The rest of the game is stuck in auto mode. Like, you can't fight the tower or arena, you HAVE to auto it and AI is stupid. I don't get it, there are a ton of strategy elements to this, but they force you to fight in auto mode for most of it after the offline mode is done. They do give a lot of free gems though. But, NO.
The initial story is great, had the classic RPG feel. Complete that and then "Act 2" amd further is no longer a free moving open map and it takes energy to progress. This energy is the same energy that everything else uses. Normally this would be fine, but you get 300 max, and everythimg costs either 27 or 50. So very little play time once the first part of the story is completed. I never would have paid for it had I known the story would eventually be restricted play time.
In the beginning, makes you think it's Ana amazing, free roaming game. It is not. After the first act, there is no more roaming, monster catching, spend massive mana to do any anything, getting new monsters is a pay to win lottery that costs too much. A lot of potential ruined by pay to play pyramid scheme. Very sad and disappointing to many in game and many former players.
I played this game a few years ago, when it was free only because it was on sale. The gameplay was decent, the characters fun and cute. It required minimal effort or thought though, so it was always kust a time waster. I lost the app when I got a new phone, and didn't think of it as worth buying. When I saw that it was free again, I gave it another try. The dialogue and character design leaves much to be desired. While it required minimal effort before, you now do nothing. Very disappointing.
The game itself is amazing. Decent story, colorful cast, tactical battles and a wide variety of playable characters. However, there are major drawbacks. The capture system, although fun at first, becomes pointless very fast. The game is heavily P2W with ridiculously low SSR rates. The difficulty in story and events ramp up faster than the average player can keep up. Overall, you will absolutely enjoy the game the first few days to a week but that will diminish quickly if you are unwilling to pay
While I absolutely LOVED this game when I played it a few years ago, the advertisent about it being a "disturbing re-imagining of Pokemon" is WAY off base. It's a monster/ally taming game with a strong narrative but NOTHING like the advertisements. The challenge modes make you think of tricky ways to build a strong team (and reward you for learning the mechanics/following a guide) .. Just advertise the game for what it is: a fun single player game where you can challenge other players postgame.
