I don't understand how or why it was decided that players can waste time, effort, and resources into doing raids just for a CHANCE to catch a desired Pokémon. But in a real Pokémon game, it's a guaranteed catch without having to spend money. I literally have no desire to play something that punishes you for trying. Such a disgustingly lousy model for a game EDIT: Sent a text while waiting in a raid lobby, app completely restarted and lost my pass.
Reviews for Pokémon GO
← Back to Pokémon GOFun game, but there's been an extremely annoying glitch lately that's only gotten more frequent with this latest update. For some reason, if you turn the phone screen off while the game is the focused app, there's a high chance that you'll no longer be able to interact with anything in the game at all upon unlocking your phone, forcing the player to restart the game. I'd appreciate it if someone in Niantic looked into this; no other game that I've played does this.
I've done everything to troubleshoot, and as many others are saying- after the recent update, you can't get the game past the first screen, or you get stuck on "enter date of birth" and can't enter a date. I've uninstalled, reinstalled, cleared cache, restarted phone. I tried every suggestion. I'm upset because I play everyday, now I'm sitting with nothing to do and frustrated, and Niantic hasn't addressed the issue/ say nothing about fixing it. Will change it to 5 stars, if a fix is ever made.
The safety feature that does not let you catch will be active even if your not moving. it's random and can engage even if you haven't been in a fast moving car. they won't fix this. you don't know if the catches you miss are because of this or not. Definitely don't do any paid raids. I have a picture of this happening. there are continual bugs in this game that they will not acknowledge, connection issues that interfere with catching anything, even excellent throws will not work.
If this game didn't have a pokemon wrapping, it would not be played at the numbers it has. And with Scoply adding more and more cost, it's not a sustainable hobby. It was fun when it was a simple hang out with friends, but infuriating gameplay, frustrating development choices, and now massive increases in premium purchases have all taught me that so is bowling or a movie. Pass on this one and save yourself.
Ever since the last update, whenever I switch out of the app and this back over to it, the sound completely cuts out and I have to restart the game. Aside from that and the recent removal of the navigation bar while playing (which forces me to constantly waste items when swiping to bring up the bar), the game is great. If those two issues were fixed, this game would be 5 stars.
This game is amazing for a lot of reasons. That doesn't change the fact it is half of a Pokemon game. Got the catch em' collectible thing Pokemon is known for going for it. But it fails miserably to have anything of substance for a combat system. Even in its mediocre gameplay, it tends to feel exceptionally unpolished and cheap. I marveled at this game in 2016 when it came out. They have proceeded to under deliver on just about everything they promised for the next few years.
The throw mechanics in this are extremely random. When you are attempting to catch something that is "far" away it is impossible to reach. Most of the time the ball will fall short and randomly, but rarely, the ball will launch as far as is needed. Given there is no way to practice throwing to figure out how to make it work with your device, you'll fail many catches because none of the balls are making it to the pokemon. You lose money on raid passes for something the player has no control over.
The number of bugs in this game is absurd. It's almost every other day (sometimes several times a day) where the game suddenly "fails to sign in" over and over for several hours. The game used to be a lot more stable, but it's honestly been the last year or so that the quality has plummeted. Sometimes, after healing my pokemon following a battle, then going into a gym battle again, it will forcefully switch the pokemon to the last one used in the previous battle with the health it had before.
the pairing system in the trainer battles are non-existent. and when I continuously tap on the superpower thing during a battle, I have to tap it from 5-20 times before it will let me do my ultimate. also not really a big deal but I wish it was a bit easier to get coins in the game, because I rarely am able to go anywhere to put Pokemon in gyms. other than that, everything is amazing and I love this game.
I still play, but I only use points earned from other games to redeem on this now. The 'updates' are nonstop errors. This was once a good game. Now adding on nonstop 'Event' tasks and getting rid of the rewards for completing levels 41-50. Many people put money into the game just to get those special poses and the jacket. Now, completing 3 to 5 levels in a few weeks is logically impossible when they have work, family, and other tasks. The rewards that promoted play are being taken away. 🤬
The game constantly freezes and has to be closed and reopened. When doing raids, the game will freeze or kick you out when going into the encounter to catch the raid boss. This has been constantly happening for months. I have tried multiple suggested resolutions from Niantic with no change in functionality across multiple devices. UPDATE: Now freezing even more frequently and the latest update doesn't show icons right. DO YOU EVEN TEST ANYTHING? Every time there is a change something breaks.
I used to love this game. I've played it for years and have loved every second of it. However, for the past two months it's been nothing but a headache. I have not been able to log in at all for almost two months. It started with the gameplay becoming incredibly laggy and slow. I uninstalled and reinstalled, and that's when the issues started. If I'm lucky enough to get to the loading screen, it's a miracle. I cannot enter my birthday or tap the returning player button. It sucks.
The ball throwing mechanic is terrible and inconsistent, you don't get enough poke balls from stops, you constantly have to use micro transactions just to make any actual progress, the battle system is boring, your item and pokemon storage spaces are way too small, and you constantly see the same couple of pokemon. Overall summary, this is a terrible game littered with micro transactions but hey it's 2025 so that's ok... right?
Lately being trash, again. Repeatedly, automatically turning off my adventure sync so I'm not getting my steps. Pokemon disappearing from my inventory. Rewards not being granted (such as completion for Go Pass, so level advancement is not being acknowledged). Now refusing to work without my constant precise location. Can't rate this lower. Trash!
There needs to be a feature where when you level up with friends. they already suggest buying lucky eggs to help double xp. but when I bought an egg for that, my inventory was full without me knowing. because they pop up sudden without a chance of you checking your item bag. the feature is what they already have, to go and delete items to make room for ONE ITEM instead of buy more space. because of this feature not added to where it should've been, I lost out ton massive xp.
Lower remote raid pass prices! It's stupid high now. Go back to 250 coins for 3. It was much better when it was like that. Now it takes a week and a half to save up for three, and buying three doesn't save you coins unless there's a fake discount meant to make you think you're getting a deal even though you aren't because you are still massively over paying. It's ridiculous. The average casual player, which is the vast majority of the player base, agrees because this makes it harder to play.
As immersive as you allow it to be. The framework of the game is very outdated, but it gets the job done. Still a lot to be desired (better achievement system would be a great start), but I'm afraid a new game would have to be created to get a much better experience. Addictive, gets you out, gets you walking/running, and there are people playing it almost everywhere if you want to socialize. Amazing game.
Id say the game is still fun and playable. but that's as far as the good things go. The microtransactions are worse than ever, just reviving your Pokémon can be a struggle. its hard just to get together and play it anymore because there's constant issues with someone or everyone not having a raid pass, or having to buy a remote raid pass. its quite annoying and I loved this game when it first came out. I cant give it anything above 3 stars.
Have played this game since the day it came out with many highs and lows over the years. But this has become one of the most frustrating periods! I have not been able to play in over a month! The game litterally freezes within 2 seconds of loading. You CAN'T play! There was ONE day in the last 30 that it played no problem and then that night it froze again and has ever since. I've seen so many complaints about it and hope they fix it soon otherwise they will lose countless players forever.
