I've tested a bunch of indie action RPGs and Trail of Gods is one of the better ones. The 1-bit graphics are super stylish and the gameplay loop of fighting, scavenging, and upgrading is really compelling. It's not an endless grind - you can finish the game in 1-2 hours. And the replayability is great, with speedrun times as low as 10-15 minutes. The only downsides are that the progression can feel a bit grindy and the overall experience is pretty short. But for the price (free!), it's a fantastic pick for fans of hardcore action games.

  • Story and world-building is pretty light

Description

Been playing Trail of Gods for a couple months now. It’s basically a hardcore action RPG where you explore a cursed island, fight enemies, and try not to die. The 1-bit pixel art style is really striking – it’s harsh but kinda hypnotic.

Here’s what you do: you’ve got different weapons and armor that change how you play. Enemies drop what they were wearing, so you’re always scavenging and adapting. There’s also bonfires and relics scattered around that give you little moments of safety in this brutal world.

Look, if you’re into challenging, replayable action games, you’ll probably like this. It’s not perfect – the upgrades take forever and it can get a little repetitive. But overall it’s a solid, no-filler experience that’ll stick with you.
