I LOVE the physical and steam versions of this game, but the mobile version is unplayable for me because I keep losing my green arrow. I havent been able to finish a single game, which is dissapointing since I spent actualy money on this. Also, as far as design goes it feels like everything is just cut and pasted from the steam version without taking into account its a mobile game now- the icons are tiny and hard to read even though there's definitely space to make them bigger.
Reviews for Wingspan: The Board Game
← Back to Wingspan: The Board GameGood, BUT needs a zoom (pinch zoom) or magnifier. There is a lot of fine print. Changing the text size would mess up the game's look and layout, so being able to zoom in when needed would be great. It would also be nice if the Archive, showed (numerically) the wins and number of games played and other stats. Counting out of a long list is worthless. Even then, when you've played a number of games, scrolling on the list is impossible to control because it moves through them so quickly.
I love the game itself (played the boardgame first) but the app is buggy. I play on either a stable wifi or stable 5g connection but when playing online multiplayer I CONSTANTLY have games disrupted. Either I receive a message that I did not take my turn within the 5 minute limit (when I did) or that another player didn't. Out of 10 games I believe I have played 1 all the way. When playing online there should be an option to go back to your online menu not *all* the way back to the main menu!
My brother and I LOVE this board game, so we almost constantly have a game going in the app. Problem is, about every 1 in 10 games, the AI gets "stuck" and we can't finish the game. SUUUPER annoying bug, hopefully it gets fixed eventually. Update 9/16/23 - I now officially can't get into the game at all, even after a full reboot, then reinstall. Dunno if y'all are favoring iPhone users or what, but us Androids would also like to be able to play, please.
The game itself is well-designed and if it worked correctly even half the time, my review would be 5 stars. However, I get Online Error 128 every single time I try to open the online play. I get it 3-4 times before it finally works. This morning, I got the error nine times before giving up. The problem is not with my internet. Please fix this issue which is also a problem for those I play with online.
Already a fantastic board game, this is probably the best video game adaptation of a board game I have seen thus far. The art work is simply beautiful. The music is tranquil and relaxing. The fact that they got every single bird call for each species as well as fun facts. And then the different backgrounds you can choose. This is the game I play before I wind down for bed. Bring out more backgrounds and faces for purchase, and I will throw my money at you! Beautiful game.
Update is terrible. Can't log in most of the time. Lots of lag. The update was poorly thought through and how it will effect those that were using the game. All games prior to update disappeared and now the timer displayed is nonfunctional and constant issues logging in. Extremely disappointed for a game we had to pay to play. This app keeps getting worse. Expect a loss of access to any current game on a regular basis with no warning.
Love the game, but 2 suggestions: 1. Give a warning when you are out of time to play on the online real-time play. It is frustrating if you aren't watching the tiny clock, and all of a sudden you are kicked out of the game. Also, it is frustrating for the 2 remaining players that now have to quit the entire game or finish completely versus the AI. 2. Make it so you can enlarge the cards to read the print on some of them, especially during other player moves so you can strategize more easily.
Super cool game. Fun to play with the wife. We destroy each other often. Pros: Super fun! Easy setup and cleanup 😊 Convenient! You can play it anywhere. We can always have 5 players if we add some bots. Cons: At $10, it's not cheap, but I used Google play credit, so who cares. It takes up 1GB. Lots of unneeded animation. The AI bots are really dumb. In the overall view of the reserve, you can't quite see the egg spots on the bird cards in your hand. Please fix that for 5 stars, creators.
Awesome game and beautifully made! Although I found that people with smaller android phones like the Pixel 4a are unable to see the game in the play store. I'm guessing it's because their phones are too small because the text on the bird cards is very small even on a larger screen device. Maybe add a button to show all cards in your hand so you don't have to touch each one just to see what it is (when you have lots of cards in your hand, this is super annoying). Maybe touching the face up cards in the deck could pull up those cards so you can see them better without having to press the draw cards area, and when they are not pulled up, just show the top half of the card instead of the whole card. Doing the things I suggested and shifting some things around on the screen to better use empty space could allow you to increase the size of everything on screen so people with smaller phones can play this game too!
Update: Uggh, wish I'd never bought the Oceania expansion. Gameplay is now so clunky & complicated. Can't even move between habitats w/o pushing the nectar button. ___ Love this game, but twice in the last two days I've played against the automata and at the end of the game there is no calculation; it glitches so I can see my habitats and nothing else. There is no final score calculated. These were good enough games that I might have beaten the automata. I'd like to be able to see and save.
Going back to multiplayer kicks you back to menu screen when game minimizes and you try to open game session that you were previously in. Loading on the initial app seems excessively long on pixel 7 and pixel 8a (30+ seconds). I wish you could look at cards on display when it's not your turn. You can kinda see it and make out what their food costs are if your vision is excellent. Or I guess if you already know the game and all the cards memorized, it wouldn't be a big deal.
Update: this game has become unplayable. It fails to update real-time games after opponents play their turn, showing the clock timing out. Then, tells me that *I* failed to make my move in time, having never updated to show that it was my turn. This has happened repeatedly, and is in addition to the other past glitches that have never been fixed. Absolute waste of money - don't buy!
I love this game. The art, the music, the birds, it's all very well done. No ads, minimal bugs, steep but brief learning curve, overall very good game, and I'm determined to get my friends and family to get the game as well. The downsides are the lack of a few features that keep me from giving it a full five stars. These features are the ability to sort the cards in my hand, options to make custom games more custom, and replacing just the player who left with an AI instead of the entire game.
Absolutely brilliant app. The graphics, the soundtrack, the animations, the customization options, the gameplay, etc. We love the physical game and this is a perfect adaptation. Incredibly well thought out, and so gorgeous. My only two critiques are that the AI are not hard enough for veteran players (my husband and I have played hundreds of games both individually and together and we have never lost, even in our lowest scoring games), and that the online turn notifications don't work for me.
Fun board game. Text too small to read on Phone screen. Needs ways to enlarge or zoom in. Also I don't see a way to easily view bird cards in hand if I draw a LOT of cards. For a new player, it can be difficult to understand the rules with the included tutorial. But after I played some rounds with friends, I figured out strategies.
Great single player experience but needs better play with friends support. Having to manually enter each friends name is tedious. It would be ok if you could switch back and forth between the app and a notepad but if you do you get disconnected and have to start over again. So the only way is to memorize or write the names down. Having a replay with same friends feature would help a lot too.
Love the game, and it's beautifully adapted in this app. Great interface and easy to navigate. I wish they would add a stats option so you could view overall wins and losses, or just a few simple metrics. The most frustrating thing is that you can't sink it with your Steam app. So you have to pay for the game twice if you want to play on your phone and in Steam. Same with expansions. You can stream it through the Steam app, but streaming any games from Steam that way is horrible.
This game would be 5/5 with better user interface. only about 25% of games are completed due to quitting/time out issues. there is no warning when your turn is about to time out. 80% of the time not an issue, but late in the game. you may need 20 keep/discard/other decisions. instead of adding more time, they decided to reduce decision time from 5 to 3 minutes. sounds in this game are actually awesome. I can't understand why they didn't fis with an audible cue.
A really dynamic take on board games that has multiple styles of gameplay on and offline. Beautiful art and intuitive to use. My main critique is that the online game play with real humans would definitely be sad to even shorter timers because 3 minutes per turn can feel pretty painful. In the year and a half that I've had this game, I've purchased multiple expansions cuz it's been completely worth it, you can also see how frequently they do updates and patches when problems when glitches arise.
