So here's my honest take on PAX Nav. I've tested a bunch of event and festival apps and this one's pretty solid overall. The schedule, maps, and exhibitor info are super helpful for navigating those massive conventions. And I like the PAX XP leveling system, adds a fun little meta-game to the experience. Only real downside is the maps can be a bit confusing at times, but not a dealbreaker. If you're a PAX regular, this is a must-have app in my opinion.

Pros

  • Tons of strategic depth without being overwhelming
  • Graphics look great and run smooth on older phones
  • Free to play, don't need to spend money to enjoy it
  • Useful features like schedule, maps, and exhibitor lists
  • PAX XP leveling system is a nice extra

Cons

  • Maps can be a little tricky to navigate sometimes
  • Notifications can be a bit overwhelming if you don't customize them
  • Gets repetitive after a while if you attend the same conventions
  • Ads can be annoying if you don't pay for the premium version

Description

Been using PAX Nav for a couple months now. It’s basically an app that gives you the full schedule, exhibitor lists, maps, and all sorts of other info for PAX events like PAX West and PAX East. Pretty solid app if you’re into gaming conventions and festivals.

Here’s what you do: you can check the schedule to see what panels and events are happening, browse the exhibitor list to see which game companies and cool indie devs will be there, and even check out interactive maps of the convention centers. And there’s also a PAX XP feature which is pretty cool – lets you earn points and level up as you explore the show floor. And the app sends push notifications to keep you updated on show specials and other important updates. Took me a while to figure some of that out but it’s all really useful.

Look, if you’re into gaming events and conventions, you’ll probably like this app. It’s not perfect – the maps can be a little tricky to navigate sometimes – but overall it does the job. Worth checking out before your next PAX trip.

Whenever I add an event to my schedule, it scrolls to the top of the (massive) list of events 🥲

Flawless execution. I never felt lost for a second. Just needs a friend finder.

Can't zoom in enough on the maps. Not accessible.
