So here's my take on Alter Ego - I've tested a bunch of narrative/text-based games and this one stands out. The level of depth and branching story paths is really impressive, way more than your typical choose-your-own-adventure. The writing pulls you in and the decisions feel impactful. It's not the most visually stunning game, but the story more than makes up for it. Only real downside is the pacing can drag at times, and the ads get old if you don't pay. But if you're a fan of this genre, I'd definitely recommend giving Alter Ego a shot.

Description

Been playing Alter Ego for a couple months now. It’s basically a text-based choose-your-own-adventure game where you get to make all the decisions and see how your life plays out. There’s a ton of different paths you can take – like do you grow up to be confident and successful, or a total wallflower? You get to choose stuff like whether you want to be a guy or girl, how you handle bullies, if you go to prom, even if you get married and have kids.

There’s over a thousand possible choices, so the story goes in all kinds of directions. And it’s pretty addicting trying to see how your life turns out differently. The writing’s solid and the decisions feel meaningful, not just simple yes/no options.

Look, if you’re into narrative games and seeing how your choices impact the story, you’ll probably get a kick out of Alter Ego. It’s not perfect – the pacing can feel a bit slow at times and there’s ads if you don’t pay. But overall it’s a really cool way to live out an alternate life. Worth checking out for sure.
