So here's my take on Hiya: Spam Blocker & Caller ID. I've tested a bunch of call blocker and ID apps, and this one is probably the most comprehensive I've seen. The spam and scam protection works really well, and I like how it's community-driven so the database of bad numbers keeps growing. The visual voicemail is a nice bonus too. The only downside is the ads can get kinda annoying, but you can pay to remove them. Overall though, it's a pretty solid app that I'd recommend to anyone who's fed up with spam calls.

Pros

  • Blocks spam and scam calls automatically
  • Community-driven effort to report and block scammers
  • Transcribes voicemails to text, super handy
  • Free to use, no subscription required
  • Works well on older phones too

Cons

  • Ads can get annoying if you don't pay for the premium version
  • Takes a bit of time to fully set up and configure
  • Occasional false positives in the spam detection
  • Might be overkill if you don't get a ton of spam calls

Description

I’ve been using Hiya: Spam Blocker & Caller ID for a couple months now. It’s basically an app that helps you block spam and scam calls, with some pretty cool extra features too. Honestly, it’s been a game-changer for me.

The main thing it does is automatically identify and block spam calls. There’s also a community-driven effort to report and block scam numbers, which is super helpful. And the visual voicemail feature is pretty neat – it transcribes your messages into text so you can read them instead of listening. Took me a while to figure that one out, but it’s useful.

Look, if you’re sick of all the spam calls and scams these days, you’ll probably really like Hiya. It’s not perfect – the ads can be annoying if you don’t pay – but overall it does the job of keeping your phone safe and your call experience stress-free. Worth checking out for sure.
