It is hard to imagine today’s lifestyle without the opportunities offered by the World Wide Web. The realities are such that a huge number of people are closely connected to the Internet in one way or another, whether it is access to getting some information, entertainment or communication with friends. Modern Android devices allow you to go online almost anywhere. Nevertheless, sometimes the speed of the Internet, to put it mildly, leaves much to be desired. Now we will talk about how to speed up the Internet on Android.
What the internet speed depends on
In fact, under the speed of the Internet should be understood as a combination of several factors, this:
- The speed of the Internet network of a particular provider. The fact is that even having a powerful modern device, if there are any restrictions on the part of the provider, in this case it is unlikely to change the situation.
- The maximum speed of the radio module of a particular mobile gadget. Here the situation is such that, even if the service provider has a 4G network, and the mobile device will be an old battle buddy, the speed of its radio module will prevent fast access to the network.
- Signal strength level. Alas, if the signal is weak, then even with the presence of 4G guaranteed, the work of the Internet will not only be slow, but also unstable.
- Dependence on the firmware, as well as the configuration of the radio module. In this case, it is important to know that the standard (factory) settings are not always effective, so solving this factor can significantly increase the speed and stabilize the connection.
What is the speed of mobile networks
The table below shows the parameters of the main speed indicators, which we will be guided by when determining the existing problems:
Network | Incoming speed | Outgoing speed | Ping |
4G LTE | About 100 mbps | About 50 mbps | 50-150 ms |
H HSDPA Plus (3.5G) | 21-42 mbps | up to 5.76 mbps | 100 – 350 ms |
H HSDPA | 7.2 mbps | 2.26 mbps | 150 – 350 ms |
3G | 2 mbps | 0.42 mbps | 200-400 ms |
G – GPRS | Up to 1 mb/s | About 0.1 mb/s | From 2000 ms |
How to find out my internet speed
There are a lot of ways, ranging from various services to special applications that will help you find out what is the speed of a particular Internet connection. I use 2ip service, you can open a browser on your Android and follow this link, where you can find out the speed and ping, among other parameters:
What is a normal internet speed
Of course, there is no unambiguous answer to this question – this indicator depends on your needs and tasks. For example, for communication in social networks or browsing pages, 1 Mbit/sec will be enough, but for watching movies or downloading files, it will be obviously not enough. For online games this speed (1 Mbps) will also be enough, because in this case it is not the speed itself that matters, but the Ping value (or latency). The higher this indicator is, the worse it is for the user, up to the impossibility to play, for example, Counter-Strike even at high Internet speeds.
How to increase Internet speed on Android phone
So, it is clear that the unsatisfactory speed of the Internet has many reasons. These are all sorts of interference, and problematic software, and not strong enough signal connection, etc. But you should also realize that if your provider is not able to provide high data transfer speed, then no “gas pedals” to increase it will be impossible.
Nevertheless, in order to make your work on the Internet more comfortable, there are still a few ways, about which I will tell you now.
Hardware
Starting with the fifth versions of Android, many smartphones have the “Traffic Saver” function. Internet acceleration here will occur for the phone as a whole not by increasing the speed itself, but by optimizing the transmission, that is, data compression during the transfer of information. And what is important, it will happen without loss of quality.
To activate the function we need to find the item “Data transfer” in “Settings”, in this section we select “Traffic saving” and switch the slider to the active position:
If your phone does not have this feature, read on.
Using a browser
Almost all browsers have an extension that will compress pages by servers, which will speed up their loading. As in the previous case, it will not affect the quality.
So, start the browser, in this case Chrome, find the menu button (on different browsers it may be in a different place) and open “Settings”:
Then go to the “Save traffic” section and activate the function. On the third fragment of the screenshot you can see the statistics. I must say that this time I used the Internet only to open Chrome and make screenshots, and nevertheless 122 b were saved:
Of course, if you have a powerful smartphone and everything is fine with the Internet, this improvement is unlikely to be noticeable, but if you have a weak signal or for an older device, this option will be a good support and quite tangible increase in speed.
Using third-party software
Another way to solve the problem of slow loading pages or videos is to install a special application. Most of these programs require ROOT rights. I’m going to tell you about Internet Speed Master utility, which can help both rooted devices and those without Super User rights.
How it works: install Speed Master from Play Market and open it. Now, if you don’t have root permissions, then on the main page click “Improve Internet Connection” button. Here we need to explain why the connection will be optimized. In this case, the program will remove restrictions related to the power-saving mode of the Wi-Fi module and the Sim-card module (as an antenna that receives the signal), which will increase the speed of both connection and transmission. However, you should be aware of the fact that the battery charge will be consumed faster. Therefore, you can disable the function and connect it when necessary:
Now let’s consider Speed Master operation on rooted Android devices. In this case, after installing and launching the program, activate the “Apply Patch” function, then a request to use Super User rights will open, click “Grant”, after which a notification that the patch has been applied will appear at the bottom of the page:
How will the application work in this case? As a result of this tweak, the system settings of Wi-Fi connection and mobile Internet will be changed, namely, DNS-servers will be changed to those that are located as close to your location as possible. In addition, the timings of some settings will be optimized, which will also have a better effect on the increase of internet speed.
Note:
- In both the first (non-root) and second (ROOT) case, you should reboot your device before proceeding.
- To make sure that Speed Master is effective, check the internet speed on your smartphone before and after using the application.
It should be noted that Speed Master depends on the model of the mobile gadget, as well as its firmware. In case of unsatisfactory operation of the program, you can return the settings to the initial position (button “Restore” “OK”).
I want to believe that the information presented was useful to you and now the question of how to speed up the Internet on your Android phone is not as acute as before reading it. Please share with our readers your ways of solving this problem, if you have them.
